Tanya and Leroy

Tanya and Kit arrived at Leroy's apartment.

"Leroy?" Tanya called as they stepped inside.

"In the kitchen," Leroy called.

Tanya, carrying Kit, walked into the kitchen and sniffed the air appreciatively.

"Smells nice," she said.

"Why thank you," Leroy replied. "You made good time, I'm just finishing."

"Great, great."

Tanya put Kit down in the lounge room along with his toys and was sitting down on the lounge when Leroy arrived in with two plates of food.

"Thank you," she said.

"You're welcome."

There was an awkward sort of silence.

"Leroy?"

"Yes?"

"You... you may remember a question you asked me... at Christmas?"

Leroy was silent for a moment.

"Yes?" he asked, not knowing if he dared to be hopeful.

It had been almost two months now and still no answer. Truth was, he dispaired of getting a positive one at this point.

"I will."

Leroy paused.

"Leroy?"

"You will?"

"Yes, I'll marry you."

Leroy stared at her, a little stunned.

"Really?"

"Yes, really."

"Because y'know... it's been awhile... are you sure?"

"Yes."

"You're not going to back out at the last minute or something?"

"Does the word 'paranoid' mean anything to you?"

"Paranoid is unreasonable fear," Leroy replied solomnly. "I don't think there's anything unreasonable about me being worried that you might change your mind."

"Well, of course you don't. You're the one who's paranoid."

Leroy opened his mouth to reply. Then closed it again. And opened it again and finally said: "I have nothing to say to that."

Tanya laughed.

"Leroy, I took so long to decide because I didn't want to make a decision I would regret. I love you dearly, I do, I was worried that... I don't know... maybe it wasn't enough. But something that... erm, a good friend of mine said to me... he said that love was the whole point. And y'know what? He's right. It is the whole point. And everyone has their rough times and things they will never agree on, but at the end of the day, I still love you, and those things can't get in the way of that. Not really."

Tanya reached over and took his hand. Leroy went one step further and kissed her gently.

"I'll be right back," he said.

He disappeared from the room for a moment, then came back with the engagement ring he had bought for her. Tanya smiled and lifted her hand so that he could slip the ring on her finger.

"I love you."

"I love you too."
