Sam looked through the numbers in his phone as he sat in the impala off of highway 85. He hesitated as he came to Faith's, thinking about what happened the last time they'd gotten together.
Frowning a little to himself, he selected her number and waited as the phone dialled.
Faith and Kim
Faith breathed heavily, balancing in a hand stand position on the beam.
"It's yours," Kim said, looking over at her phone.
"Bring it over and hit speaker, please?" Faith told him, still focusing.
He did as she asked and placed it next to her on the beam.
Faith groaned a little, her muscles aching, then slowly dismounted from her position.
"H... hello?" she said breathlessly.
Sam
Sam raised an eyebrow at the questionable background noise.
"Ah... hey, Faith. It's Sam."
Kim and Faith
Kim smirked slightly and excused himself from the gym.
"Hey," Faith said, straddling the beam and lifting the phone. She flicked it off speaker. "Sorry, I was training."
Sam
"Getting started early," Sam mused.
"I was just ah... calling to see how you were. After what happened yesterday and all."
Faith
"Ah, you know me, no rest for the wicked, right?"
Faith smiled faintly.
"I'm alright. I've recovered pretty much. How are you going?"
Sam
"I'm fine," Sam nodded.
"I was just worried about you. Well not worried worried, I mean you're a slayer right so you like, heal faster or something..."
Faith
Faith was glad he couldn't see her smile.
"Oh, well, sleep easy, I'm all good now."
She paused for a second.
"You on the road again?"
Sam
Sam glanced out the window as a semi screamed past.
"Yeah," he admitted, "there's a poltergeist thing in Denver I promised someone I'd check out. Nothing like vanquishing malevolant spirits and ducking from flying objects to pass the time."
Faith
"Well, it breaks the days up," Faith said, shrugging. "Give me a yell if you need help with anything. I'm sorta... sorta variable at the moment."
She didn't mention that she had packed her bags and left after her fight with Angel.
Sam
"Nah, don't worry. I'm sure there's plenty of hunting to be done right where you are," Sam grinned a little.
"Are you back in LA?"
Faith
"I'm in Cleveland at the moment," Faith replied.
She stretched her legs out.
"Just taking some time out from LA at the moment."
Sam
"A holiday sounds great, put my name down for one of those," Sam mused.
"It'll be a while before I get one again."
He glanced at his watch, knowing he should hit the road, but he preferred talking to someone he knew for as long as he could.
Faith
"Well," Faith laughed. "It's more of a working holiday. Cleveland is on top of a Hellmouth. So there's no shortage of things for me to be killing here. Plus, I help train the other Slayers at the school here as well."
She grinned.
"And on top of that, I still find time to shower and smell nice."
Sam
"You're very multi talented," Sam said, without too much sarcasm.
"But you mean to tell me there's a whole school of you guys out there? I thought it was a 'one in all the world' deal?"
Faith
"Well, originally, yeah," Faith said. "But a few years back, we were closing the Hellmouth in Sunnydale, and a friend of mine cast this spell to awaken all the Slayers in the world. So every girl who might've been one, became one."
She smiled ruefully.
"Which has been good and bad. Good because I can finally get some much needed help, but bad because... some of them are kind of lame."
Sam
"The kind that would probably die very early in their career?" Sam chuckled.
"I know a few hunters like that. Well, as aforementioned, not many that are still alive..."
"Plus, it takes the special out of the whole Chosen One thing," Faith said, almost pouting. "Maybe I need to find a new thing. Underwear modelling and slaying. I could make a killing."
She laughed at the thought.
Sam
"Oh yeah," Sam rolled his eyes and shook his head.
"Your own weaponry lingerie line."
Faith
"That's actually not a bad idea. They'd never see it coming."
Faith brought one leg up against her chest, pushing down slightly to get the full effect of the stretch. She made a little groaning noise.
"Sorry, I'm stretching."
Sam
"It's ok, I can live with that mental image," Sam nodded to himself.
"I guess I should hit the road again..."
Faith
"Yeah, I should get back to it."
Faith smiled faintly.
"Stay safe, and maybe I'll see you around."
Sam
"Maybe you will," Sam agreed.
"We seem to have a great track record for running into each other so far, why break pattern?"
Faith
"We're a well oiled machine," Faith replied dryly.
"Give me a call if you need help or whatever."
Sam
"I will," Sam promised.
"And I'm glad you're ok. Bye Faith."
Faith
"See ya around, Sam."
Faith snapped the phone shut and shook her head.
How to concentrate now?
