Thrown Together

Written by Nessa and AiMsTeR

Faith

Faith finished sharpening her knife and put it down on the bed beside her. She glanced over at the window for a second, then returned her attention to what she was doing.

"Alright," she said, hiding each of her weapons on her person. "So, we sneak in, and this thing gets the pointy end of the knife."

Sam

"As long as there aren't any kids there to witness it," Sam said insistantly.

He didn't even look up from his laptop.

Faith

"Alright," Faith agreed. "You make sure the kids don't leave the room."

She rubbed her eyes slightly, her head still feeling fuzzy.

Sam

Sam looked up after a moment.

"Are you sure you're up to it?" he asked cautiously.

Faith

"We don't have much of a choice," Faith pointed out. "It can only be seen if you're sick. I'll be alright."

She closed her eyes and waited for the room to stop spinning.

"Just... be ready to get me out of there if it doesn't go well."

Sam

"No problem," Sam nodded assuredly.

"You just have to trust me when I say that it's time to leave."

Faith

"I can, absolutely," Faith said, then added to herself, "not do that."

She let her eyes do a quick sweep of the room and then determined she had everything she needed.

Sam

Sam took a deep breath, then closed up his laptop.

He loaded his pistol while he was sitting, then slipped it into his belt as he stood up.

"Ready?" his eyebrows rose.

Faith

"Let's do it."

Faith grabbed the room key and walked over to the door, opening it and waiting for Sam while she again, waited for her head to stop feeling so fuzzy.

Sam

"Impala's around back again," Sam jingled the keys in his hand as he walked past her and out the door.

"And yeah, I'm driving."

Faith

Faith closed the door behind them and followed him.

"Someone has no faith in my driving while sick. Rightly so."

Sam

"You got that right," Sam smirked.

He led her around to the car, opening the passenger door for her again before going to get into the driver's seat.

Another twenty minutes, and Sam had parked the car at a side entrance to the hospital.

"I scoped the security cameras," he informed Faith, "and they don't hit here. Security patrols will be around in..."

He checked his watch.

"Exactly one hour and fourteen minutes. So that's how much time we have."

Faith

"Fun. Just enough time to play."

Faith got out of the car and walked over to the side door. She looked at the padlock and simply pulled it off, before opening the door to the hospital.

"Ok, so pediatrics just up there, right?"

Sam

"Up two floors and to the left. But the whole level is pretty much it," Sam nodded, hoping they wouldn't make too much noise.

He locked up the car and jogged over to follow her.

"I'll make sure the coast is clear."

Faith

Faith nodded and closed the door gently behind them both. She looked around and then waited for Sam to go ahead.

Sam

Sam stepped past her and headed up the stairs. When they came to the second level, he carefully opened the door and stepped through.

He nodded at a couple of nurses that walked past, waited as they exited the corridor, then signaled for Faith to follow.

"All systems go," he whispered when she was close enough.

"I'll keep an eye out for anyone while you're... hunting. But stay close."

Faith

"Will do."

Faith moved slowly, headed towards one of the doors to the children's wards. She peered inside and saw nothing, so she moved to the other door.

"Sam," she whispered, gesturing to him, eyes not leaving the door.

Sam

"What?" Sam asked, sauntering over.

Faith

"I need you to get the kids out of this room and into the other room."

Faith's eyes were trained on the demon.

"He's picking dinner."

She pushed through the doors and grabbed the demon by the arm, whirling it round and then kicking it hard in the stomach.

The kids, awake, were sitting up, watching with fearful eyes.

Sam

"Thanks for the warning," Sam frowned.

He slipped into the room and began ushering the kids out, carrying the two that couldn't walk.

"Faith be careful," he said over his shoulder.

Faith

Faith ducked, kicking backwards. Her leg got caught and she spun through the air, landing on the ground towards the back of the ward.

The demon started for the doors, following after the kids and Faith got to her feet and charged after it, tackling it before it made it to the ground, they rolled and she bucked it off her, flipping to her feet and going after it again.

Sam

Sam managed to get the four kids into the next room down the hall, waking those two occupants. He put the two that couldn't walk onto the closest bed, then pulled the oldest to him.

"Make sure you guys keep quiet, ok?" he told him.

"And we'll have you better in no time, I promise."

The boy nodded, and Sam turned back to make sure no one walked in on Faith.

Faith

Faith oofed as she hit the ground, smashing her head against the hard floor. Her eyes watered and she felt the demon on top of her, staring down. The whites of his eyes extended and she struggled turning her head.

"Get... off..."

She kicked up, and rolled out from under him, slowly struggling to get to her feet.

Sam

"Faith...?" Sam called over his shoulder.

"We're running out of time here!"

Faith

"Oh no you don't," Faith muttered, tackling the demon again, one hand grabbing for her knife.

They rolled and she struggled, still feeling lightheaded from her earlier crash to the ground, but she still managed to push her knife up through the demon's neck.

She fully decapitated it, and then weakly got to her feet, picking up the head and dragging the body along behind her.

"I'll find somewhere to dump this."

Sam

Sam looked disgusted.

"Just... find something to wrap it up with, so no one has to see it," he insisted, walking over to clean up the mess she'd left.

Faith

Faith made her way over to the supply closet and opened it, pushing hard to break the lock. She wrapped the body in a sheet and then picked it up, weakly headed for the side entrance where they'd parked near the bins.

Sam

Once Sam had finished what he was doing, he went to fetch the kids from the next room. Once he had them back in their orignal beds, he left them to try and get some sleep and followed Faith from the building.

He found her dumping the body and cringed a little, hoping no drunkard would come past and stumble across it while sifting through the garbage.

"Are you feeling any better yet?" he asked her, staying back by the car.

Faith

"Yeah and no," Faith said.

She turned around and shrugged.

"I think I just need some sleep. I should be alright by the morning."

Sam

Sam nodded.

"Ok. I'll drop you off at the motel then," he smiled a little, walking around to the driver's side and getting in the impala.

Faith

Faith got into the car and lay back against the seat.

"Thanks."
