"Just down the hall to your right," Giles said, stifling a yawn. He opened the door to his own room and paused for a moment. "The phone is on the bedside table. I'll see you in the morning."
"Night Giles," Faith replied.
She continued down the hall until she came to the room Giles had directed her to, and opened the door. She smiled faintly, closing the door behind her, before putting her bags on the ground and laying on top of the bed.
She reached into her bag for her phone, flipping it open tiredly, and scrolling through for Sam's number. After finding it, she reached for the landline phone and dialled in the country code and the number, yawning as she listened to it ring.
Sam
Sam was leaving the library when his phone rang. He stopped to dig it out of his pocket, paused at the odd-looking number, then answered.
"Hello?" he greeted unsurely.
Faith
"Hey Sammich," Faith said, smiling slightly.
"How've the last few hours been without me?"
Sam
"Faith!" Sam's face instantly lit up.
He stepped off the sidewalk into a grassy park area.
"So you got in ok?"
Faith
"I'd say that no, the plane crashed and I'm calling from beyond the grave, but with our lives, that's entirely possible."
Faith chuckled.
"So yes, got in fine, and then Giles even took me sight seeing."
Sam
"Really? What did you see?" Sam asked, leaning back against a tree.
Faith
"Mmmm, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, the usual touristy spots."
Faith paused.
"Oh, but like a giant nerd, I asked to be taken to Abbey Road."
Sam
"That's awesome," Sam grinned.
"Have you seen Big Ben? And what was the palace like?"
Faith
"Mmhmm, Big Ben is like one of the first things you see as you come into the city."
Faith leaned back against the pillows.
"The palace was impressive. I liked the Tower better, but I have a soft spot for darker things."
Sam
"Yeah I guess we all do," Sam sighed a little.
"Can you still look around, or is it straight down to business?"
Faith
"We're starting basic training tomorrow, but the party isn't for a few days yet."
Faith shrugged.
"So, there's probably time to look around a bit more. Take naughty photos on my phone to send to you," she teased.
Sam
"You don't have to," Sam smiled, amused.
Faith
"Yeah, but I have to remind you what you're missing," Faith teased.
She ran a hand through her hair.
"New case?"
Sam
Sam cleared his throat.
"Yeah, nothing major. Just your usual, patented, vengeful spirit drill," he shrugged.
"And I already know what I'm missing."
Faith
"Sounds exciting."
Faith smiled slightly.
"Only two weeks. We can do two weeks."
Sam
"Yeah I know," Sam sighed.
"I just hate this... sporadic slayer stuff."
Faith
"I know," Faith said softly.
"But like it or not, that's how most of it works. Things pop up last minute. And this girl... I can kinda relate, you know?"
Sam
"No, I don't know," Sam pulled a face.
"Just be careful, ok?"
Faith
"Always."
Faith shrugged.
"Little stabbing. No muss, no fuss, really."
Sam
"Don't let it get to you too much, ok?" Sam insisted.
Faith
"When does anything ever get to me?" Faith asked, laughing.
"I'll be alright. No cause to worry."
Sam
"Yeah? Well you know me, I can't help myself," Sam scratched his head awkwardly.
Faith
"I know. Plus, it's cute when you worry."
Faith looked around her room, books lining the walls.
"I think you'd like this place. Lots of books."
Sam
"I don't particularly like books, Faith," Sam rolled his eyes with a smirk.
"I just trust them more than online sources is all."
Faith
Faith laughed.
"How was your first night without me?"
Sam
"Just like old times. Terrible," Sam teased.
"Dean got extra onions with dinner."
Faith
Faith laughed.
"Stinky night, then?"
Sam
"Very," Sam chuckled, glancing at his watch.
"Speaking of night, what's the time over there?"
Faith
"Bout 9," Faith told him.
"Captain Teabag was exhausted and went to bed as soon as we got in. I think he'd forgotten how tiring it is to be with a Slayer. Well, not in that way."
Sam
"I should hope not," Sam mused.
"But I should probably let you get some rest..."
Faith
"Yeah," Faith said half heartedly.
"Well, it was nice to hear your voice."
Sam
"Yours too. Keep in touch, ok?" Sam insisted.
Faith
"Mmm, will do. Unless I happen to be swept off my feet by Prince Harry."
Faith grinned faintly.
Sam
"Then I guess I'll have to hunt him down and break his legs," Sam teased.
"Good night, Faith."
Faith
Faith laughed.
"Night Sammich."
She put the phone down gently, before rolling over, not bothering to get changed.
Sam
Sam hung up and returned his phone to his pocket, paused to remember what he'd found in the library, then walked back out onto the street while shielding his eyes from the midday sun.
