Natalie hugged Ezra.
"Happy birthday to you," she said softly. "Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Ezra. Happy birthday to you!"
Taylor
"Morning," Taylor grinned as he entered the room, almost tripping over a plastic pumpkin as he made his way over to the duo.
He gave Natalie a kiss on the cheek then leant in to kiss Ezra's forehead.
"Happy birthday little guy," he grinned.
Natalie
"Happy birthday," Ezra repeated.
Natalie smiled.
"Yes, sweetie," she replied. "It's your birthday, and you're a whole year old. You get to have cake and presents, isn't that exciting?"
She grinned at Taylor with a twinkle in her eye.
Taylor
"And if you're lucky, you might even get presents from other people," Taylor teased.
Natalie
Natalie and Ezra giggled.
"But for now, a special birthday breakfast," Natalie said, carrying Ezra out.
Taylor
"Yes, for sure," Taylor grinned.
"Have you ordered it, or should I?"
Natalie
"No, I haven't ordered anything yet," Natalie replied. "Well, except the cake, which is in the mini bar."
Taylor
"Cake!" Ezra exclaimed.
Taylor eyed Natalie.
He picked up the phone and dialled for room service.
"Hello? Hey, I'd like to order the deluxe breakfast plate times two..."
Natalie
"Yes darling," Natalie said to Ezra. "Cake. But not until after brekky, okay?"
"Hungry."
"So am I. We'll eat soon."
Taylor
"Breakfast is on its way," Taylor informed them, putting the phone down.
"Mmm. Food. I'm starving."
Natalie
"So am I," Natalie agreed.
She carefully put Ezra back down in his little bed.
Taylor
"Cake!" Ezra cried, arms outstretched.
"After breakfast," Taylor insisted, "it won't be long. Promise. And then you might get a visit from Uncle Zac."
"Zackie!"
Natalie
Natalie chuckled and began to get dressed.
"Should have known better than to say the 'C' word?"
Taylor
"Too much sugar already at a young age. I'm sure I wasn't that into cake when I was one," Taylor chuckled.
Natalie
Natalie paused briefly.
"Do you think we've been spoling him?"
Taylor
"I think his uncles have," Taylor smirked, "I don't know about us."
Natalie
Natalie pointed a finger at him.
"I think you could be right," she nodded.
She finished dressing.
Taylor
Fifteen minutes later, they were finishing up their breakfast.
"Cake!"
"Ezra," Taylor sighed, "it's really not a morning food."
Natalie
Natalie chuckled.
"It is today?" she suggested.
She put the last of their breakfast things on the tray, then headed to the bar fridge to get out the cake.
Taylor
"One morning a year, mister," Taylor ran his hand through Ezra's red hair gently.
Ezra giggled.
Natalie
Natalie chuckled and brought out a small cake she had bought for the three of them. There was a bigger (and yummier in Natalie' opinion) one to share with the family later.
"Ta da!" she said with a flourish, putting the cake down in front of them.
Taylor
"Cake! Eat!"
"Slow down," Taylor mused, lifting a knife.
"Should we do the 'happy birthday' thing, or wait until tonight?"
Natalie
"Let's wait until tonight," Natalie replied. "That's what I'm saving the candle for."
"Cake!" Ezra insisted.
"What do you say?"
Ezra looked at her blankly.
"You say 'please'."
Taylor
"Good idea," Taylor nodded, "and yes. Ezra?"
"What does please mean?"
"You know what please means," Taylor insisted.
Natalie
"Cake please?" Ezra tried.
"Yes, you may," Natalie said.
She placed a small piece of cake in front of him and gave him a plastic spoon.
Taylor
Taylor smiled at their son before cutting the rest up.
"I'll leave another small piece here for him," he told Natalie, "just in case he can't wait."
Natalie
Natalie chuckled.
"Good idea," she said.
