Kim pushed through the doors of the diner, a few seconds after Sam.
He took a deep breath, then walked over to the counter to approach him.
"Uh, Sam, right?"
Sam
Sam looked over his shoulder, leaning on the counter after making his order.
"Yeah," he confirmed.
He knew the guy looked familiar, but after what happened with Lindsey he'd been on his guard for familiar faces.
Kim
"Kim."
Kim shrugged slightly.
"Uh, Faith's ex."
Sam
"Oh," Sam put two and two together, turning his shoulders slightly.
"I take it this isn't a chance meeting," he smiled awkwardly.
Kim
"To be honest, no."
Kim shrugged.
"Uh... I guess she didn't tell you, then?"
Sam
"Tell me what?" Sam asked, turning his head.
"That you were in town? No, she didn't."
Kim
Kim was almost smug that she had concealed their conversation from him.
"Oh not that... we just... had an interesting conversation, is all."
Sam
"Ok..." Sam glanced away as he sat on one of the bar stools.
"Well that's none of my business."
Kim
"Guess not."
Kim leaned against the bar, tapping his fingertips lightly on the counter.
"You seem like a pretty alright guy, so I'm gonna be upfront with you."
Sam
"Ok..." Sam repeated in the previous tone, not sure if he actually wanted to know.
Kim
"Honestly? I don't think you're right for her."
Kim scratched his jaw.
"And I'm in love with her."
Sam
Sam's eyebrows rose.
"Are you serious?" he asked.
Kim
"Extremely."
Kim shrugged.
"Sorry, man. But... yeah."
Sam
"Nothing to be sorry about, you can't help your feelings," Sam shrugged.
"But I think if Faith had decided anything had changed, she would have let me in on it."
Kim
Kim nodded.
"She's not much of a talker though."
Sam
"Oh you'd be surprised," Sam couldn't help but smile, not for the first time wondering why everyone told him that.
His order came up and he grabbed the bag with thanks.
Kim
"Don't get comfortable, is all I'm saying."
Kim shrugged.
"She'll see soon that you guys just don't work. No offence. But you don't really."
Sam
"And how would you know, seriously?" Sam stood, towering over him.
"You know nothing about me."
Kim
"No, but I know her."
Kim shrugged, unphased.
"You don't get the Slayer thing. And she'll get tired of you not getting it."
Sam
"Right, so..." Sam frowned a little.
"Lesson number one about me. I'm a hunter. Slaying is what I do for a living. I understand it just fine."
Kim
Kim laughed.
"It's a little different. More so, when it comes to her. You have family. She doesn't. Ultimately, she'll run."
Sam
"I have my brother, everyone else is dead," Sam fumed a little, knowinghe shouldn't be telling him this.
"But do you wanna know why she didn't tell me about your conversation?"
Kim
"Enlighten me."
Kim folded his arms across his chest.
Sam
"Because I've been killing a lot of people lately and she probably didn't want you dead," Sam said simply, as if it were an everyday fact.
He turned to leave. Or rather, take this outside.
Kim
"Try this one on for size," Kim said when they were both outside.
"Or she has feelings for me too."
Sam
"If she had, she would have told me," Sam didn't look worried.
"Because we don't tend to keep secrets. You probably don't know what that feels like, seeing as she doesn't 'talk' to you and all."
Kim
Kim smirked slightly.
"That's what you think."
He paused.
"I just came to tell you that I'm not backing down."
Sam
"Don't say I didn't warn you," Sam said reluctantly.
"Guess I'll be seeing you around."
He turned to leave, worried the lunch would get cold.
Kim
"Guess so."
Kim nodded, and went back into the diner.
Sam
Sam rolled his eyes, stern words from Dean running through his head and keeping him on track.
