"You don't patrol with Sam?"
Faith glanced at Kim, almost as if she'd forgotten he'd 'ported in to patrol with her that night.
"I like working alone."
"Oh, ouch!"
"You know what I mean." Faith shrugged. "If I asked him, he'd come."
"But you don't?" Kim pressed. "Ask, I mean."
"No, I need Faith time every once in awhile. I mean, we are together like... twenty-four seven," Faith replied.
There was an awkward pause between the pair.
"I think I'm in love with you," Kim blurted out.
Faith stopped walking and looked at him. "What?"
"Sorry, I know that was out of the blue."
"You think?" Faith raised an eyebrow.
"But I am." Kim glanced at the ground. "I'm in love with you. And I know you're with Sam, and I'm trying to be mature about that, but I wanted to put it out there..."
"Kim, I - "
"Look, originally I was going to tell you that I could wait. Or that being your friend was enough. But it's not. It's not enough."
"I don't really - "
"I just... now you know," Kim told her.
"Now I know," she replied.
There was another long pause between them.
"I'm with Sam."
"I know."
Another pause.
"Faith, I guess what I'm saying is, if there's the slightest chance that you and Sam don't..."
"I can't - "
"It's just... I know you think you're all scary and damaged - "
"Dark and twisty," Faith corrected.
"And it makes you think you don't deserve good things, but you do," Kim insisted. "And Sam? He's bad for you. But me, I'm a good thing. So if there is a race, if there is a ring, then my hat is in. Pick me, Faith. Choose me. Love me."
"I can't, I don't... I've got to go."
"Ok." Kim looked away from her.
"Kim!"
He shook his head and then teleported out.
"Great," she muttered.
