Zac rubbed at his temples. He picked up the phone and dialed a familar number without even registering what he was doing until he was listening to the ringing phone on the other end.
Zac was considering hanging up, when the line was picked up.
Kate
Kate wrapped her towel around herself as she stepped out of the shower and her the phone ringing in the other room room. She contemplated letting the machine get it, but something told her it might be kind of important. She wrapped a towel around her head quickly and ran to the phone. She checked the caller ID, smiling as she recognized the number. She was glad she hadn't let the machine pick it up.
"Yo yo yo, Zacarino," she said, ginning to herself.
Zac
"Hey yo Kateamundo," Zac replied cheerfully. "How's things?"
Well, he was commited to the conversation now so...
Kate
"Wet," Kate replied, knotting her towel around herself. "I just got out of the shower. How are things at Zac-land?" she inquired.
Zac
"Ahh," Zac said.
Well, he hadn't been expecting that visual.
"Things are... interesting. Chaotic, actually. Julie's living here now with ehr six kids, so yeah. Kind of last minute, but I did make the offer when she was pregnant with B'E and Tom, so I can hardly complain when she takes me up on it and I... yeah..."
Kate
Kate winced. A heartbroken Julie and an extra six kids? She liked Julie but Zac had enough stress in his life already.
"Well, if you ever need to get away, my apartment gets kind of lonely sometimes, just me and and Sophie," Kate said. "Or if you need an extra baby-sitter, let me know. I am modeling again, and acting a little, but I do have some free time." She smiled. "And I miss you," she added, honestly.
Zac
"Yeah, I miss you too," Zac replied.
He sighed dramatically.
"I think that there must be some sort residual effect from being a girl for a year. I keep wanting to talk about things. I'm seriosuly considering killing Friday next time I see her."
Kate
Kate giggled, and then shivered. She walked with the cordless phone to the bedroom while she talked.
"Probably because your brain got rewired for a year. But then it should have gone back to normal. Hey, can you hold on for a moment while I set the phone down & put some clothes on quickly?" she asked.
Zac
"Oh, yeah, no, that's cool," Zac replied, stammering a little.
The visual from earlier returned to mind and he tried to shake it off. Kate was his friend, model or not, and he was used to seeing her as a friend first.
Kate
Kate set the phone down on the dresser and got dressed quickly, singing 'Crazy Beautiful' as she got dressed. She was still humming a bit as she picked up the phone.
"Sorry I took so long," she said. "That towel was getting uncomfortable, but for some reason, I didn't want to let the machine pick it up, and I'm glad I didn't."
Zac
"Oh, yeah, well, that's good," Zac replied. "I kinda... I kinda rang you before I even realised what I was doing so, I probably wouldn't have even left a message I..."
He paused, then shrugged to himself.
Kate
"Zac? Do you want to come over and hang out? If you can get away, that is. I'll make some lunch, and we can watch a movie or play a game or just talk." Kate asked.
Zac
"Oh, sure that would be good," Zac said.
He paused briefly.
"Yeah, they can do without me for a couple of hours. I'll come over now?"
Kate
"Sure," Kate said, smiling. "I'll make us something to eat while you head over. See you soon?" Kate was already thinking about the pound of hamburger she'd set to thaw the night before. She was planning to make a lasagna today. She wouldn't have it finished before Zac got there, but if she used the no-boil noodles and she hurried, she could hopefully get it put together before Zac got there.
Zac
"Alrighty then. see you soon!"
He hung up, announed his intentions and made his way out to the car before there could be any objectsions. Not long thereafter, Za had pulled up along the street and made his way to Kate's door.
Kate
Kate hung up the phone and dashed into the kitchen discovering she only had the regular lasagna noodles, so she set those to boil, and started browning the beef. She finished browning the beef when the doorbell rang.
"Hey Zac, you get to help me put the Lasagna together!" she said, hugging him hello.
Zac
Zac hugged her back, then stepped inside.
"Lasagna is our friend," he said sagely.
Kate
Okay," Kate directed, pointing toward the pot of noodles. "If you can drain those for me, I always scald myself and you're, well, you," she giggled. She pulled a plastic Tupperware of sauce out of the fridge that she had actually made the night before and mixed it in with the meat. She pulled two peeled carrots that had been soaking in the sauce out to throw them away.
"The carrots are alkaline, and they soak the acid out of the sauce, so you don't get so much heartburn," she explained to Zac, as she held two pasta sauce covered carrots in her hands.
Zac
"Interesting," Zac replied.
He pulled out the strainer and started draining the noodles.
"Hmm, sause-covered carrots. I bet those are tasty."
Kate
"Doubtful," Kate said, wrinkling her nose. "These are for the garbage." She threw them out and finished the sauce.
"So, hiow is everything back at home?" Kate asked. When the noodles &and sauce were ready she started making layers, waiting for Zac to answer.
Zac
"Noisy mostly," Zac replied. "You try living in a house with ten under-three-year-olds."
He sighed and shook his head.
"Almost all of them with powers."
