Awkwarrrrrd

Written by AiMsTeR and Nessa

Dean & Sam

Dean looked over at Faith as they pulled out of their latest truck stop.

"Anywhere in particular we can drop you off?" he asked.

He was half hoping to get conversation going. The car had been silent all morning.

Faith

Faith jumped a little at the question, having spent most of the morning reflecting quietly on the last couple of days.

"Um, oh anywhere is fine."

Dean & Sam

"Well you'll need somewhere with transport," Dean pointed out, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel in time with the Scorpions song playing from the tape deck.

He took a moment to try and remember if there were any bus stops out this way.

Faith

"I can always hitch hike or something," Faith shrugged. "It's ok, anywhere you want to dump me is cool."

She returned her gaze to out the window, half watching the scenery and half watching Sam in the side mirror.

Dean & Sam

"That might not be such a good idea," Dean pointed out as Sam caught Faith's eye and quickly looked out the window, "you never know when a county cop's gonna come along these back highways."

He glanced across at her again.

Faith

"Oh," Faith said, a little caught off guard by the eye contact with Sam.

"It's ok. I can call my... a friend. He's a teleporter."

Dean & Sam

Dean nodded, the akward silences starting to annoy him.

He leant over and turned the music down.

"Why don't you call that friend of yours and tell him you'll be about 30 miles South of Huron in two hours," he suggested.

Sam took another look in the mirror to make sure Faith wasn't looking at him again.

Faith and Kim

Faith nodded, reaching into her bag for her phone. She flipped it open and scrolled through the contacts.

"'Lo?"

"Hey," she said, sneaking another glance at Sam.

"Hey pretty lady," Kim replied. "What's up?"

"I need you to do me a favour," she said, smiling slightly.

"Ah, she only calls when she wants something," he joked.

"You know me," she laughed. "Could you come pick me up from somewhere?"

"Ah, yeah, Angel sorta filled me in on that deal," Kim said, nodding. "FBI and all. So wanted."

"Everyone wants me," Faith grinned. "So I'll be 30 miles south of Huron in about two hours. You in or out?"

"I'm in. Party time."

"Five by five. See you then."

"See ya."

She hung up and returned her gaze out the window.

Dean & Sam

"Why do you say that?" Sam asked innocently.

"Wow."

"What?" Sam looked at Dean.

"The creature of the black lagoon speaks! Careful now."

Sam rolled his eyes.

Faith

It took Faith a moment to realise he was talking to her.

"Say what?" she asked, looking at him in the rearview mirror.

Dean & Sam

"Five by five. What does it mean?" Sam asked.

"Didn't Caleb used to say that?" Dean glanced at him in the rear view mirror.

Sam just shrugged.

Faith

"Oh."

Faith was quiet for a moment. She'd been saying it for so long, almost as a habit. And while she didn't use it for what it was exactly meant for, she'd just gotten used to using it to describe herself.

"It's a military thing. It's in reference to how good or bad a radio signal is, in regards to volume and clarity. Basically, it means 'the best possible'. I kinda use it for my own descriptions of things."

She paused, wondering how far to delve into this subject. Thinking about it made her kind of sad already, but she figured, someone had to break the awkward silence.

Dean & Sam

"And where did you pick it up?" Dean raised an eyebrow.

"I don't pick you for hanging with military types. Not that we're far from it I guess."

Faith

Faith's stare was firmly fixed out the window, an almost melancholy look on her face as she thought about something she had left dead and buried a long time ago.

"My mom had a boyfriend who was military. He probably lasted the longest out of all of them. It was just before I found out I was a Slayer. I liked him. He was nice to me. Nicer than the others, anyway."

Dean & Sam

"Sorry," Sam said softly, watching her in the mirror again.

"For bringing it up, I mean."

Faith

"It's ok," Faith reassured him, looking up at him in the rearview mirror.

"It's just... something I haven't really thought about in awhile."

Dean & Sam

"Sounds like one of those things you don't care to remember. Not to get too emo or anything," Dean said.

"Yeah, like we never do that," Sam scorned.

Dean shot him a look that he hoped translated to 'shut the hell up'.

Faith

"I just... I guess you could say I left that life behind completely when I left Boston."

Faith shrugged.

"It's ok, I don't usually think about it. So let's move on."

Dean & Sam

"Alright," Sam smiled, "eye spy with my little eye, something beginning with 'r'."

"Road," Dean scorned, "you couldn't come up with anything more adult?"

Faith

"What, you wanted a dirty eye spy?" Faith asked, glancing at him for a second.

"I could flash him if you want it to get interesting."

Dean & Sam

"That's so not funny," Sam mused, "and it wasn't 'road' anyway."

"Radio," Dean tried.

"Damnit."

"Why don't we try truth or dare," Dean grinned.

"Like we can get away with any good dares inside the car in the next two hours," Sam pointed out.

Faith

"So... just truth then?" Faith asked, raising an eyebrow.

"This could get interestingly awkward, so I should get comfortable."

She moved a little and lay her head on Dean's shoulder.

Dean & Sam

Dean smiled, moving a little so she was more comfortable.

"So, truth? How many time have you guys done it so far? Not that I really want to know," Sam began.

Dean frowned for a moment.

"I've lost count," he looked down at Faith, "is it eight? Nine? Twelve?"

Faith

"Yeah, something like that," Faith said, glancing at up Dean.

She wondered why Sam would even ask that question.

Dean & Sam

"My turn," Dean smirked.

"Faith, ever done it with a demon?"

"That doesn't have to be the only topic you know," Sam added.

Faith

Faith smiled slightly.

"Aliens yes, demons no."

She thought for a second.

"Dean, best sexual encounter?"

Dean & Sam

"Oooh let me think about that," Dean bit his lip.

"Guys..."

"You started Sammy. There was the DoubleMint twins early last year, they were wicked. Or Lisa Braedon. She was a yoga instructor. Bendiest weekend of my life."

He hesitated in thought.

"Sammy, ever thought about Faith naked?"

"What?!"

Faith

Faith laughed.

"You're a mean brother."

Dean & Sam

"And dont I know it. Answer the question Sammy."

Sam shifted in his set, uncomfortable.

"Well, yeah. Of course I have."

"Ha! I knew it."

"It comes with having testosterone, smart ass."

Faith

Faith glanced quickly up in the rearview mirror to look at Sam for a second, then quickly focused back on the road.

"Well, that's pretty flattering. Not that I blame you. I do look pretty good naked, even if I do say so myself."

Dean & Sam

"She does," Dean agreed with a nod.

"Really not with the caring," Sam insisted, crossing his legs in a casual attempt.

"Faith. Ever been in love?"

"So now we're getting emo. And I'd just like to point out that it's not my doing."

"It doesn't have to be emo," Sam scorned, "it can just be a yes/no answer."

Faith

Faith thought about that question for a few moments.

"I thought I was once. But it wasn't really... no, I haven't."

She shrugged slightly, sliding a hand onto Dean's knee.

"Dean... sexual fantasy that you wish I would fulfil for you."

Dean & Sam

Dean raised an eyebrow as Sam scoffed.

"If I tell you, will you do it?"

He didn't even care that she wouldn't get to, just the visual would have been good. Was good, even...

Faith

Faith grinned.

"If we have time today, yeah."

Dean & Sam

"I wish," Dean tilted his head back, then forward again.

"I bet I know what's coming."

"A catsuit," Dean grinned, closing his eyes momentarily.

"Ok... not whatI was thinking, but so close."

Faith

"Well," Faith said, looking up at him.

"I don't know if I want to delve into those issues."

Dean & Sam

"What issues?" Dean scorned, "it'd be hot."

"Can we move on, please?" Sam insisted.

"Faith. Same question."

Faith

Faith thought for a moment.

"Well, there's the fireman thing... and there's the whole... school boy thing. Like... law student or something."

Dean & Sam

Sam's eyes widened.

"There you go Sammy," Dean chuckled, his voice with just a twinge of jealousy.

"You know Dean always wanted to be a fireman when he grew up," Sam told Faith, "granted that still hasn't happened, so he's still in with a chance."

"That was pathetic, Sam."

Sam just smiled sarcastically.

Faith

Faith realised what she said must have sounded like and she grinned a little.

"I didn't mean Sam specifically. I've just... school boys. They're cute. And fun. Especially those private school boys."

She looked up at Dean for a moment, then returned her head to his shoulder.

"Sam... same question."

Dean & Sam

"Oh no, I can't tell you how much I'm not getting involved in this. Can't you guys take your mind off the deed for just one hour?"

"Hell no, especially not when I've got this one in my district," Dean smiled down at Faith, "come on Sammy, you'll ruin it."

"You'd be surprised at just how much I don't care."

Faith

"It's ok if it's weird," Faith said, trying not to laugh.

"I had an ex boyfriend who liked blood play. And he wasn't a vampire. So that was kinda weird."

Dean & Sam

"It's not that sinister," Sam folded his arms defensively.

"You can't tell me you're embarrassed dude," Dean looked at him in the mirror, "I mean come on man, who are we gonna tell?"

"It's not that," Sam insisted, "I just don't have one to talk about."

"Bull crap."

Faith

"Hey, play your cards right and if you're really nice, maybe I'll even act it out for you," Faith teased.

She nuzzled into Dean's shoulder a little.

Dean & Sam

"I wouldn't ask you to," Sam frowned.

"See? You do have one! Or you wouldn't have said that."

"Congratulations, you've progressed to second grader."

"Sam."

"Fine. Nurse's costume. You happy?"

Faith

"I actually have one of those," Faith said absently, brushing some hair from her eyes.

"But that's a less interesting story."

Dean & Sam

"I hope you don't keep it locked up and out of reach," Dean raised an eyebrow.

"Faith. Ever killed something that didn't deserve to die?"

Dean glanced in the mirror again, awkwardly.

Faith

"I try to get my money's worth out of it."

Faith stiffened a little in her seat.

"Yeah. Twice."

Dean & Sam

Sam nodded, silently counting off on his fingers.

"What brought that on?" Dean asked.

"Nothing in particular," Sam shrugged.

Faith

Faith cleared her throat slightly.

"Sam, angriest you've ever been with Dean?"

Dean & Sam

Sam and Dean shared a mirrored glance.

"That'd be Gordon wouldn't it?" Dean suggested.

"There's been a few. Particularly after our Dad died," Sam admitted.

"We both went a little psycho I guess, and hated each other for stupid stuff."

"There were a few rough arguments."

"Yeah. And I'm usually the one that comes out of it bruised."

Faith

"They should film that for cable. With oil."

Faith nodded slightly.

Dean & Sam

"What?"

"Eww," Dean screwed his face up, pulling the impala into a picnic area just off the highway.

Faith

Faith laughed.

"Sorry, couldn't resist."

Dean & Sam

"I take it we're here," Sam looked out the window.

"Yeah Sam. And with..." Dean checked his watch, "fifteen minutes to spare. God I'm good."

"Is that open for debate?"

Faith

Faith decided now was not the time to make a joke about Dean in bed, and instead got out of the car to stretch her legs.

She yawned a little, stretching her arms.

Dean & Sam

"Sam," Dean leaned over the seat, "go with me, ok?"

Sam rowned in cnfusion, but nodded.

"O...k..."

Dean got out of the car and went to lean on the hood, Sam slowly getting out last and stopping a moment to take in their surroundings.

"So I guess this is it," Dean said to Faith.

Faith

"Yeah," Faith replied, twirling some hair between her fingers. She glanced at Sam quickly, then looked at her feet.

"Guess it is."

Dean & Sam

"Listen, I don't want to intrude or anything if you have plans," Dean began as Sam watched on curiously.

"But if you don't, we'd like to catch up with you in the next few weeks. You know, after the job we're scheduled for this week."

Sam frowned a little.

Faith

"Yeah, I guess."

Faith decided she should stop looking at Sam, but found herself taking one last look, before she moved her eyes to Dean.

"Whatever. Look me up. I don't know where I'll be."

Dean & Sam

"Well we know where Wolf and Heart is, right?" Dean looked between them.

"They should be able to get in touch, huh?"

"I'm sure we'll figure something out," Sam nodded.

Faith and Kim

"Yeah," Faith said, nodding. She brightened a little when she saw Kim appear behind the boys.

"So, you needed a ride?" Kim grinned, winking. "I remember when it was a two way street."

"Loser," she teased.

Dean & Sam

Dean almost jumped out of his skin, and Sam just stepped aside.

"So I guess you two know each other about as well as we do," Dean said to Faith.

Kim and Faith

Kim walked over to Faith, looking between her and Dean.

"We used to date, sorta," Faith said, shrugging.

Kim smiled a little. "Yeah, it was a bit like that. I'm Kim."

Dean & Sam

"Dean," he nodded.

"Sam," Sam waved.

"Well babe, it was good to see you again," Dean smiled, not moving from the hood.

"We'll see you around."

Sam just nodded in agreement.

Faith and Kim

Faith stood awkwardly for a moment, then walked over to Sam first. She reached up and slid her arms around his neck, giving him a kiss on the cheek and hugging him lightly.

Kim raised an eyebrow slightly.

Sam

Sam hugged her back awkwardly, then leant back in surprise.

"See you round," he smiled.

Faith

Faith nodded and smiled at him.

"Yeah. See you."

She moved to Dean and grinned.

"What can I say? It was fun."

Dean & Sam

"It sure was," Dean smiled smugly.

He glanced at Sam who looked away, then put his hand around the back of her neck and kissed her.

Faith and Kim

Faith kissed him back, slipping her arms around his waist. She pulled back after a few moments.

"Well, people, places and all that crap."

She picked up her bag and walked back over to Kim and took his hand.

"Stay safe."

And with that, they disappeared.

Dean & Sam

The boys both watched after her with a smile, Sam's fading the moment she was gone.

He moved to lean on the hood besde his brother.

"Why did you lie to her?" he asked softly.

Dean hesitated.

"I don't know," he replied, "but I figure you two could be good for each other."

He stopped and looked across at his brother.

"If this thing doesn't turn out the way we want."

"Don't talk like that Dean."

"Why not?" Dean shrugged, "at the moment it's a sure thing, I'm just taking precautionary measures is all."

And with that, he stood up and went back to the driver's door.

"Come on, I told Bobby we'd be at his place by sundown."
