First day at a new school

Written by Joy and Michelle

Joni

The alarm clock went off entirely too early. Joni looked across the room and saw Illeanna still in bed, so she slipped off to the washroom to take a shower. She washed her hair, and then tied it back in a french braid. She toyed with the idea of wearing her Jedi robe, to class, but then decided it might not be the best first impression to show up in full geek gear. Then she headed back into her room to see if Ille was up yet, and to grab her bookbag.

Illeanna

Illeanna was roused by Jaeger licking her ear. After a bit of moaning she finally consented to getting up.

"I suppose you want to be fed," she mumbled.

Dutifully, she filled his bowl with food and made certain there was water for him. Joni wasn't in her bed, so she figured she must be in the bathroom or something. Illeanna checked the time - she hadn't even heard the alarm. She sighed and started looking through her clothes.

Joni

"Morning," Joni said, coming back into the bedroom. "Sleep well?" She started looking about for books and stuff. "I think we have a start of term assembly this morning."

Illeanna

"Yep," Illeanna replied, stifling a yawn. "Oh goody, an assembly."

She tossed a couple of things on the bed, and then made her way to the bathroom. Nature was calling. Illeanna thought that the bathroom was awesome. The fact that she had to share it with five other people, including Joni, was easily overlooked.

Joni

Joni waited for Illeanna to be done in the bathroom before going down for breakfast and then assembly. She didn't feel that comfortable here yet, and she'd only met a few people so far. She and Illeanna had been sticking pretty close together since Ille arrived.

Illeanna

Illeanna returned from the bathroom and dressed quickly.

"Okay, Jaeger, I have to go now. You should stay in here," Illeanna instructed him.

Jaeger didn't look very happy with that idea.

"I'm afraid you can't follow me to class here, okay?"

He growled.

"You have plenty of toys in here to play with while I'm gone, okay? Okay?"

He turned into a cat and looked up at her pathetically.

"You'll be fine. I promise."

He sprouted wings, nuzzled her face and then flew over to the bed and curled up to go back to sleep. Illeanna shook her head in amusement, then turned to Joni.

"Ready to go?"

Joni

"You have a very weird pet," Joni said, not for the first time. "Yes, let's go down to breakfast," she said, and headed over towards the cafeteria. She felt like everyone was watching them, the new girls. Joni was used to people staring at, usually because she was wearing some sort of geeky costume. But as she'd lived in the same house her whole life, she'd never really been the New Girl before. She grabbed some breakfast, and pointed to a table.

"Look, there's an empty table, let's sit there," she said, pointing.

Illeanna

"Okay," Illeanna said, following Joni with her own breakfast.

Illeanna sat down at the indicated table.

"Jaeger's kinda tempermental," she said. "He chose me to be his owner though, not the other way around. Does that make me his pet?"

She giggled at the idea.

Joni

Joni also giggled at the thought. "That would definitely be amusing."

Keisha saw the two new girls sitting at a table and decided to say hello.

"Hey, I'm Keisha," she said, and Joni's eyes got huge.

"Oh my gosh. You're the Queen of Naboo!"

"Yeah," she said. "Big Star Wars fan?"

"Ohmigod yes." Her head was reeling with questions.

Illeanna

Illeanna giggled.

"You're in trouble now," she teased Keisha. "I'm Illeanna, and this is Joni."

Joni

Joni grinned and took a bite out of her muffin, to avoid asking a bunch of dumb questions. What she really wanted was to know all about George Lucas.

"So you guys are new?" Keisha said. "Just turned 13?" Joni nodded.

Illeanna

"Yep," Illeanna replied. "Is the school as cool as they make out?"

"Yes," said a voice behind her. "And it'll be even cooler when we get to use weapons. Hi, I'm Amara."

Joni

"Hi," Joni said. "Definitely looking forward to using weapons," Joni agreed. "I'm Joni, that's Illeanna." she said, before going back to finish her breakfast.

Illeanna

"I'm Chaeli," said the girl next to Amara. "You're the girls in the room next to ours, aren't you?"

Illeanna snapped her fingers.

"I knew I'd seen you before," she said. "And isn't there someone else? Silver hair?"

"That's Ginko," Chaeli nodded. "She's lucky, she gets a room to herself."

"Only because her mutant powers might risk her roommate's life if they activate out of her control," Amara said direly. "She'll probably get a roomie sooner or later."

Joni

"There are mutant slayers too?" Joni asked. She looked at Illeanna. :And here I thought you and I were the weird ones, Ille," she winked.

"Yeah," Keisha said. "There're a few mutant slayers. Friday's half alien, and Cassie's the weirdest one. She's half cat godling or something, and half vampire."

Illeanna

"A half vampire vampire slayer?" Illeanna questioned, eyes wide with amazement.

"It does seem to be a bit of a oxy-moron doesn't it?" Amara mused.

Joni

"I think she was the most surprised out of anyone," Keisha said, referencing Cassie. "She'd not here at the moment. She usually gets up early and goes across town for breakfast. She thinks we don't notice," Keisha giggled.

"So, all the Slayers are at least part human?" Joni questioned.

"Of course," Keisha said.

Illeanna

"Well, except for us," Illeanna giggled. "I'm Dathrian."

"Really? What power?" asked Chaeli.

"Advanced Sight."

"That sounds boring," Amara said. "Friday's got Sex Change."

"Wow."

Joni

"Well, if you use it well, atom manitpulation can be the greatest power in the world," Joni pointed out. "I'm an alien too, I'm a Semirellian, though, similar races, just a few differences here and there."

"What's your power?" Keisha asked her.

"I'm a Jedi. i use the Force," Joni said with a completely straight face. She reached out her hand, and pulled a cup into it from the other end of the table.

Illeanna

"That's cool," Amara said.

Chaeli shook her head at Amara, who didn't notice.

"Oh, Ginko! Over here," Chaeli called.

The japanese girl with silver hair and silver eyes made her way over to the table with her breakfast.

"Good morning," she said.

"I'm Illeanna. This is Joni," Illeanna said. "You're a mutant, right?"

"Yes. My power is energy. I can transfer it, or alter its form," Ginko replied.

"Cool."

Joni

"Very, very cool," Joni said. "So, you can use the Force, too?" she joked. She looked at her watch, it was the special Darth Vader watch her sister had gotten her on her thirteenth birthday.

"Oh, assembly," Joni said, and stood up.

Ginko

Ginko raised an eyebrow.

The girls finished breakfast quickly then, so not to be late, and made their way to the assembly.

Willow

Willow greeted the girls from the podium.

"Hey girls. I'd like to say welcome to the new girls, and welcome back to the rest of you. As usual, we have to go over the rules. First, no one is allowed to patrol alone before graduation. Ever. No one is allowed off campus alone after dark, and all girls under fifteen aren't allowed off campus alone, period. You must have a buddy. Curfew is 10 'o'clock on school nights, and midnight on Friday and Saturday. All girls will be issued a mobile phone, and you must have it on you at all times." Willow smiled, some of the girls looked excited about having their own phones.

"Now, boys," and a few of the girls groaned. "Okay, and this may sound unfair, but nobody under 16 is allowed on an unsupervised date. If you want to go to the movies or bowling or out to dinner, you have to go in groups. And that does not mean two couples meeting up and going off in separate directions. For the older girls, you will be on the honour system. I am trusting you that will know better than to be having sex. If I find out otherwise, you will lose all your priviledges. I understand what it's like to be a teenaged girl, but I'm also responsible for all of you. Moving on, no boys in bedrooms. If you go over to the Watcher Academy, no girls in the boys dorms. Yes you can go in the girls' dorms over there. No girls in the Paladin School dorms either. You have to be off the other two campus' by 9." Those rules were pretty straightforward.

"Weapons. The new girls are not allowed to use weapons their first term except for in weapons classes only. Once you have been cleared for weapons, all custom weapons must be cleared by John Connor. All school weapons must be checked out from the weapons store, and checked back in at the end of the night." Willow saw some girls nodding, and moved on.

"First dance of the year is this Saturday," she said, and waiting for the cheering to stop. "I've doubled the protection spells and magical alarms, and we should not have a repeat of the Valentine's Day dance. SO, that said, have a great term!"

Illeanna

"Watcher academy? Paladin school?" Illeanna repeated.

"Neighbouring schools," Chaeli explained. "The Watcher academy is co-ed. They train to look after slayers, amongst other things. The Paladin school is all boy."

"There are some really cute boys over there," Amara said.

Joni

Joni looked at her schedule.

"It looks like we have Biology first. Just as long as I don't have to cut up dead frogs, we're all good," she said to Illeanna with a giggle.

Illeanna

"Yeah. Ew," Illeanna said, turning up her nose.

Illeanna looked at her own schedule to check what room they were in.

Joni

Joni skipped off to biology class.

Illeanna

Illeanna followed Joni to their class.

And thus it was that the two new girls started their first day of school in the Slayer campus.
