When It All Falls Apart

Written by Nessa

Avery and Lo

The night had started off like all of the previous nights out in Cabo. Avery used her telepathy to get them into the clubs and on the bartenders, and they danced and drank up a storm until they decided to move on to the next place for more of the same fun. It was going smoothly, until the last club.

That was where it all fell apart.

She had frozen right when she needed to use her power, she couldn't scream out loud, or even in her mind. She couldn't ask Talan to come get her, couldn't even let them know something was wrong with her.

Used and dirty, Avery stumbled away from the encounter, tears stinging at her eyes as she ran past Lo, ignoring her friend's concerned cry. She had to get outside, she had to get as far away from this place as she could.

"Lo, what's up?" Patrick asked, handing her a drink.

"Something's wrong with Avery," Lo replied, setting the drink back down on the bar.

Talan's ears pricked up at the last statement. "Where is she?"

"She was going outside."

Without another word, Talan raced out to find her. He stepped out of the club and looked around for a long moment, trying to see if he could still see her. Vaguely, off in the distance, he spotted the little blonde girl, swaying as she walked away, and he bolted after her, not bothering to stop even after he'd pushed through a group of teenagers.

"Avery!" he called.

Lo and Patrick, meanwhile, were gathering Stephen, Trey, Dieter and LC, so they could go after Talan and Avery.

Avery didn't stop, she just kept running. Because that's what she knew how to do.
