Saku was at the local shopping centre. Why? Because even if he was a cat, he was also a teenage boy... sort of... and like any normal teenage boy, he was interested in girls. And as girls liked to shop...
It seemed logical to him, anyway.
So here he was, wandering around, eyes peeled for a new girl to meet. He was rather bored with all the female friends he already had. None of them had managed to keep his attention after the first couple of dates.
"Good afternoon," he said to one attractive-looking girl.
"Hi," she replied barely looking at him.
"So, I couldn't help but notice how this poor setting pales in comparission with your beauty," Saku said. "Perhaps you'd like to go out with me sometime to a setting more suitable?"
"How do you know I won't fade in the background?" she replied. "Besides, I think my boyfriend might have a problem with that.
"Ahh. Lucky guy."
"Uh huh."
Saku heard some snickers behind him, and turned around to see two girls standing there. One had brown, shoulder length hair, and blushed when he laid eyes on them, but she was nothing compared to her friend, who wore red-tinted sunglasses, gypsy style clothing, and had the blackest hair he had ever seen.
"Something amusing?" he drawled.
"You," the black-haired girl replied. "You've been trawlling all over this place, chatting up girls. I love the way they all knock you back."
Saku shrugged.
"So, I'm having an off day. It happens."
"I bet every day is an off day."
"No, not really."
"Ahh, so you admit to being a player, huh?"
Saku frowned.
"I only ever date one woman at a time, thank you," he said. "And I break it off before I move on."
"Oh, so you're the honourable kind of womaniser."
How on earth was this conversation heading in this direction?
"I don't womanise, thank you very much," Saku said. "Just because I've dated multiple women doesn't make me a womaniser. Picky, maybe, but not a womaniser."
The girl laughed.
"I'm Amber," said the brown-haired girl. "The one picking on you is Trina."
Trina grinned.
"Saku."
"Interesting name."
"I'm named after my father. Sort of. His name is Zac, and Saku is Japenese for Zac."
"Really?" asked Amber. "My full name is Ambrosine, which means immortal."
"Well, the meaning of 'Trina' is 'short for Katrina', and if you call me Katrina, I will pulverise you," Trina replied.
Amber giggled.
"I consider myself told," Saku replied. "So, I don't suppose you two would be interesting in letting a poor, date deprived boy like me hang out with you for awhile?"
The girls looked at each other.
"Sure," Trina said. "But only hanging out, date-boy."
"Cool."
Trina had definitely sparked his interest. Saku hoped the interest would last.
