Let Your Guard Down

Avery

It was only the third official day of the summer holidays and Avery was already in heaven.

Figuratively speaking.

After working her butt off for the last semester, particularly with her advanced classes with Tanya, she was going to kick back and have one hell of a ride.

Starting with the trip with a group of her friends from Tulsa. They were headed to the Bahamas for two weeks of parental free fun, sun and an endless parade of cute boys.

The only reason Avery suspected that she was allowed to go was because Cailyn's older sister and her friends were going to be supervising. Or loosely supervising. But none of the girls parents knew that they weren't going to be monitored 24/7.

And this summer, Avery was going to let loose for awhile. After JD suddenly broke up with her just after Taylor's wedding, she thought she'd never stop crying. It had just been so out of the blue. Maybe he'd gotten nervous around her family, what with the age difference, but whatever it was, he hadn't specified the actual reason, and Avery hadn't pried into his mind to find out. Mostly because she was too afraid of what she would see.

But now... she woke up the other day and she felt like all her crying over JD was done. It was like her song with JD had turned into "well screw you", and she sang it all the time. Of course she missed him, he was her first... and he'd been like her best friend before they'd gotten together. In such a short time, he'd changed her life for the better, and it had been hard not to talk to him whenever she wanted to. But she knew they could never go back to what they had been, that relationship had been fueled by attraction, and now that they weren't together anymore, it would be a long and difficult road to get back to the best friend stage.

So now it was time to kick back and be a teenage girl. Meet cute boys, hang out with them and maybe some kissing would occur.

But either way, Avery wanted to be normal, even if it was only for a few weeks.
