It's Just a Game We Play

Written by Michelle and Nessa

Zac

Zac was in EB Games, looking through all the games and seeing if anything was going to jump out at him and say 'buy me, buy me'.

Not literally, of course.

They had just about every console, plus a couple of computers at home, so he could pretty much browse every section of the store quite happily. Except the preowned section... Zac prefered to get his games new, and untouched by careless hands.

Tristan

Tristan walked into the store, bag slung carelessly over one shoulder, sunglasses sitting atop her head, keeping her hair from falling in her eyes.

She headed straight for the Nintendo DS section and scanned the row of games, looking for something new and exciting to play.

Zac

Zac paused in front of the Nintendo Gamecube section, eyes flicking over the titles when they feel on the girl looking at the Nintendo DS section, which was right next door to the Gamecube games.

"Tristan?" he asked curiously.

It sure looked like her...

Tristan

Tristan half jumped at the sound of someone saying her name. Who would recognise her in here?

"Yeah?" she said, turning around to see Zac. "Oh, hey!"

Zac

"Hey," Zac replied. "Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."

He smiled at her appologetically.

Tristan

Tristan laughed.

"It's ok, I was just off in my own little world for a moment. How are you?"

Zac

"Good, good," Zac replied. "Just seeing if EB has anything new I want to play. How have you been?"

It was weird the way they kept bumping into each other.

Tristan

"Not too bad. Not as busy now that I'm on holidays from college."

Tristan smiled and then let her eyes flick back over to the Nintendo games.

It was like they were 15 and meeting in a store to go on a date together.

Zac

"Cool," Zac replied.

Not really knowing what else to say, Zac went back to the games himself.

"All right! Mario Party 6!" he exclaimed, picking up it and investigating it thoroughly.

Tristan

"I played that at a friend's house. It's pretty fun."

Tristan picked up a game and flipped it over to read the back cover.

"Hmm... Yoshi's Island, yay or nay?"

Zac

"Mario is very cool," Zac replied. "I have been waiting for this to be released. Mwahahaha. Though, you have to wonder about the guys who invented him. I mean, he's an Italian plumber who lives in the Mushroom kingdom. And what does that say about Princess Peachs' taste in men? Or is it some unwritten law that all Princesses and other Damsel in Distress' must get together with the man who rescues them? Now if Lord Faquaad has been the one to rescue Fiona in Shrek... would she still have gotten together with Shrek? I think not. I think that if the dispicable, Lord "I'm compensating for something" Farquaad had rescued Princess Fiona, they would have married as well. Mostly because Shrek would have stayed in his swamp, after all, if it hadn't been for all those fairy tale creatures honing in on his territory, he would never have needed to go after Lord Farquaad in the first place."

Tristan

"Well see now, I'm not sure. If I was rescued by someone, yes, I would be rather grateful, but I don't know if I'd be grateful enough to marry them. Because I think it sends out the wrong kind of message for me. Like I was too helpless to save myself so I needed some knight to come riding in with his shining armour and after the whole ordeal, I swooned from the excitement and was just so happy to be saved I fell in love with my saviour. I'd rather just buy him a present and send him on his way," Tristan answered.

She gave a shrug.

"But that's me. I'm a woman of the millenium."

Zac

"Well, yes, this is true, but Princess Fiona fell in love with Shrek. It wasn't out of gratitude, as we see in the proceeding scenes where they actually get to know each other. And in fact, she was supposed to be rescued by Prince Charming. No doubt that if he had done so like he was supposed to, then she would have fallen in love with him instead. I'm just saying it seems to be this commom theme... I'd like to hear a story where the Princess or other Damsel in Distress falls in love with the brother of her savour. And actually, I think I did read a kids story where the Princess rescued the Prince," Zac rattled off.

It never occured to him that he was getting a little too into this.

Tristan

"It's always good to reverse it. I like a girl who can kick ass and take names."

Tristan bent over to pick up another game.

"So, apart from thinking about damsels and the men they love, what are your plans for the day?"

Zac

"Ummmm..." Zac replied. "Play my new game?"

He beamed, holding up Mario Party 6.

"And probably go online, chat to a few people, work on my song, blah-de-blah-de-blah. What about you? Anything exciting?"

Tristan

"Shopping for a bit more, then back home to study, then out for a photoshoot at 5."

Tristan rubbed her eye to remove an eyelash.

"So nothing exciting."

She put down the game she'd been studying and decided not to purchase anything from the store.

"Well it was nice to see you again."

Zac

"Good to see you too," Zac nodded. "Maybe we'll bump into each other again sometime."

He grinned, and made his way to the counter to pay for his new game.

Tristan

"See ya later," Tristan said.

She headed out of the store, a friendly wave and then she was gone.
