Friday was doing some stretches while she waited for Faith to arrive. Today it was just going to be them in their patrol group. This was the second patrol it had ever been just them (now that she was stuck doing patrols with Tiffany), and their first night had been so productive that she had been eagerly looking forward to their next patrol together.
"See ya Day!" waved Kella.
"See ya! Good hunting!" Friday replied, waving to Kella and her patrol as they departed.
Faith and Angel
Faith headed for her meeting spot with Friday, chatting on her phone with Angel.
"Did you want to call Zac?" Angel was asking.
"I'll give him a call tomorrow and see if he can take Tru for a few days. Won't be too bad, considering she's old enough to look after herself now," Faith replied.
"Ok, let me know."
"Catch ya."
Faith flipped her phone shut and put it in her pocket, checking to check her knife was in her jacket.
"Hey Day."
Friday
"Hi Faith," Friday replied cheerfully. "So, you ready to go?"
She began shaking out of her stretches.
Faith
Faith bent down to retie a bootlace.
"Just about... yep, reading and raring."
She thought for a moment.
"You got any weapons? Coz I want you to leave them behind, I mostly want you to improvise tonight. I'll have stakes if you get into a really sticky sitch."
Friday
"Ooh," Friday said, eyes glittering. "Improvisation. How fun."
She pulled out her sais and sai-stakes and placed them carefully on the table. Then she tilted her head on the side and looked at John.
"I'll take care of them for you," he assured her. "If they're not here when you've gotten back, then I've put them away for you."
"Thanks."
Faith
Faith brushed her hair from her eyes and then indicated the door.
"Shall we?"
Friday
"Absolutely," Friday replied.
And without any further adu, Friday strode out of the door, and headed to their assigned patrol area.
Faith
Faith walked beside her and kept her ears pricked for any sign of movement.
"K, so, later this week I want to train with you."
Friday
"Okey-dokey," Friday replied. "I'm going to be here most of the summer holidays too. I'm kinda looking forward to having the school to myself. Mostly. Heh."
She grinned.
Faith
"You're not going home?"
Faith scratched her temple.
"I think I'll be long gone back to LA by then."
Friday
Friday shrugged.
"I might for a week or so," she conceeded. "But I don't get along with my step-family, and I barely know my father. I have better friends here than I do in Perth. Albiet most of them are going home for the summer, but still. And I can always hang out at the Paladin school. Okay, the school won't be running, but the church and everything else will, and I've gotten to know some of the people there."
Faith
"If you feel like trying your hand at patrolling in LA, just give me a buzz. I'll leave you my number before I go."
Faith thought she heard a faint rustling in the bushes, but her senses told her it was just a rabbit.
Friday
Friday looked interested.
"I went to LA once, but that was just between flights before they got the teleportation amplifier in Perth," she said. "Just a couple of hours. Hey, if I did come out, could we go to Disneyland? I've been in this blasted country for almost a whole year now and I still haven't gone to Disneyland, Disneyworld, or any of the other famous theme parks, or tourist traps, and frankly, that sucks. Hey, maybe that's what I should spend the summer doing: finally seeing all these things."
Her eyes lit up as she considered this new idea.
Faith
"I heard Disneyworld was boring, but we should go, coz I've never been either."
Faith paused.
"Oh, well I've been to Six Flags, but that doesn't really count, coz it's not as major, I think."
Friday
"Well, I think there are lots of Six Flags around the place," Friday said. "I just don't think they're got quite the hype."
She rubbed her hands together.
"I'm rather liking this idea."
Faith
"We'll skive off training and such, and hey, you never know, there might be demons and vampires at Disneyland!"
Faith laughed.
Friday
Friday giggled.
"Yeah, there might," she agreed. "I mean, they have extra long hours, so I imagine there would be plenty of time for a vampire to get in after dark. It would be like walking into a banquet hall with all those people."
Faith
"Exactly, like Happy Meals with legs."
Faith paused, sensing something way off into the distance.
"Ok, you should be able to sense that. Can you?"
Friday
Friday paused, considering for a moment.
"Yes," she said slowly, frowning a little. "Nor-nor-east of here?"
Faith
"Yep. How many can you feel?"
Faith watched the other Slayer carefully.
Friday
"Three - no, four," Friday replied. "But... I don't think one of them is a vampire... but they don't normally hang out with other demons, do they? So maybe it's a minion?"
Faith
"It depends," Faith said. "Sometimes demons and vampires team up, but other times, vamps work for the demons and vice versa. It's different in each case."
She paused.
"K, now, they'll sense us as soon as we get a bit closer."
Friday
Friday nodded. Her hands went to her sai-stakes out of habit, then she remembered that she didn't have them on her. That's right, Faith wanted them to improvise tonight.
She began to move closer, her mind considering the possibilities.
Faith
The vampires and demon looked up as soon as they sensed the two Slayers.
"Slayers," one growled.
"It's her you want," Faith said, pointing at Friday and stepping back from the fight.
"No, we want both, but it just means we'll kill her first," the first vampire shot.
Friday
Friday glanced back at Faith, and smiled to herself.
"Something amusing?" asked one of the vampires, as he moved towards her.
"Yep," Friday replied cheerfully, snapping a twig off a nearby tree, "your boobs are hanging out."
"Huh?"
And a second later, he was a she, and let's just say the the shirt 'he' was wearing, was a little too revealing on 'her'. Friday took advantage of the distraction to plunge said twig (which she had strengthened and sharpened with her atom manipulation) into one of the vampires.
"You'll pay for that, slayer," snarled the third vampire, just as the other one shrieked "I'm a girl!"
"And a very ugly one at that," Friday nodded, and noticed they they both moved back behind the demon. "What's wrong? Afraid I'll turn you into a girl too? Estrogen make you nervous?"
"Hardly," the vampire smirked. "Go get her."
The demon moved menacingly towards Friday.
"I say!" Friday exclaimed. "I know what you are. You're a fagann demon, aren't ya?"
It snorted and closed the distance between them. Friday dodged its threatening claws once... twice and then slid underneath the demon, paused, and zipped out, stopping inbetween the two vampires. She slung her arms across their shoulders.
"Hi!"
They both looked at her, and moved to attack. Smiling, Friday moved her arms from their shoulders, to their backs and pushed them towards the demon. She stuck her tongue out and a second later the demon had changed sex, becoming the smaller, female version, where the claws are positioned slightly differently.
The now-female vampire managed to miss one set of claws, but the other set fell nicely around vampire #3, and sliced him in two. The demon roared in anguish.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I had no idea he meant so much to you," Friday said blandly.
The female vampire lunged towards Friday. Friday changed her back, kicked him in the groin and drove an atomically sharpened stick through his heart. She then picked up a handful of the resultant dust and threw it in the face of the demon. While it was busy struggling with the concept of being blind, Friday picked up a metal belt buckle from one of the vampire's clothing, reshaped it into a blade and drove it into the demon's heart.
The demon lurched and collapsed.
Faith
"Nice."
Faith held up her hand to high five Friday.
"That's what I wanted, you to think on your feet."
Friday
Friday high fived Faith.
"That was kinda fun," she said. "Plus, it helps to have alien powers."
She grinned broadly.
Faith
"Next time I'm gonna ask you to not use your powers. There's probably some sort of spell Willow can do."
Faith rubbed her eye.
"I want you to learn how to fight on your very own, and one night, I might even get the syrum to withhold your strength."
Friday
Friday frowned.
"That's a bit of a weird way of putting it. I mean, even though they were latent, I was born with atom manipulation and sex change. So they are a part of me. Wouldn't that be like cutting off my leg? The slayer stuff I understand, that was given to me, but the alien stuff makes up half my being," then she shrugged. "I get what you're trying to say though, about not using powers to fight. I mean, there could be a time where the enemy has found a way to block my powers and I need to know how to deal with that."
Faith
"Yeah, I'm not sure I can block your powers off, but I do want you to try it powerless once. And then the next time it'll be Slayer- strengthless and only with your powers. I want you to be prepared at all times."
Faith fell into step beside Friday.
"Because you don't really know what you're going to be up against."
