IM - Cliff and Julie

Technomaniac:

Hey Julie

AngelicOne:

Hi!

Technomaniac:

So I'm sure you'll be gald to know we finish BoM

AngelicOne:

WHAT?

Technomaniac:

We finsihed BoM

AngelicOne:

But... you've only been at it a month...

Technomaniac:

Hey, there are two technologically powered people working on it

AngelicOne:

Hmph

AngelicOne:

When I think about how I spent over a year programming Joolesgaim...

Technomaniac:

Haha

AngelicOne:

Green eyed monster mean anything to you?

Technomaniac:

Haha

Technomaniac:

Well, if it makes you feel better neither Binar nor I can design game very well

Technomaniac:

Okay, Binar can't design at all

Technomaniac:

I've tried my hand at it, but I never get very far

Technomaniac:

Rather play and program I guess

AngelicOne:

Fair enough

AngelicOne:

Well, maybe it's better that way

AngelicOne:

I like programming, but I love designing more

Technomaniac:

Hehe

Technomaniac:

A well made partnership

Technomaniac:

Just a shame that we don't live in the same area, because Rin loves kids

Technomaniac:

She'd love to meet yours

AngelicOne:

Haha, well, I'd take all the help I can get

AngelicOne:

I think it's a miracle I've been able to have time to program with six kids to raise

AngelicOne:

They're very time consuming

AngelicOne:

Especially now that B'E and Tom are walking

Technomaniac:

Haha

AngelicOne:

In fact, at this very moment, I am talking to you, finalising the next update for Joolesgaim and feeding Josh

Technomaniac:

Whoa, go the multitasking

AngelicOne:

Yes, so if there are any typos, it's because I'm typing one handed

Technomaniac:

hahaha

Technomaniac:

Well, you've done pretty well so far

AngelicOne:

tx

Technomaniac:

So, any more games for us to put together

AngelicOne:

Ahhh so THAT's the real reason for you IMing me...

Technomaniac:

Well, that and to gloat :-D

AngelicOne:

Haha

AngelicOne:

Well, as it happens, I have two sitting and waiting for programming

Technomaniac:

Great!

AngelicOne:

I'll just email them to you.

Technomaniac:

Okay

Technomaniac:

So what are they about?

Technomaniac:

...

Technomaniac:

Julie?

AngelicOne:

Sorry

AngelicOne:

Told you I was busy multitasking over here

Technomaniac:

Oh yeah...

AngelicOne:

designs are on their way

Technomaniac:

Great

Technomaniac:

And they're about?

AngelicOne:

One is a class stategy/war game

AngelicOne:

You have your units, they have theirs, they meet in battle

Technomaniac:

Ok

AngelicOne:

Twist is, instead of buying units, you have to breed them

Technomaniac:

Oooh

AngelicOne:

You can crossbreed and get different traits

AngelicOne:

Of course, sometimes the breeding doesn't go according to plan, and theyhave defects

AngelicOne:

And your enemy may sabotage your efforts

AngelicOne:

And of course, breeding takes time...

Technomaniac:

Coooooooooooooolllll

Technomaniac:

Plus this would be really open to updating because you would add new stock

Technomaniac:

Awesome!

AngelicOne:

Yup

AngelicOne:

The hard part is working out what you might get if you bred A with B

AngelicOne:

And even worse... if you bred a A&B hybrid with a C&D hybrid

AngelicOne:

But then I've made things easier on myself and made some combinations impossible

Technomaniac:

Good idea

AngelicOne:

Plus I've had to give serious consideration to the problem of generations

Technomaniac:

What do you mean?

AngelicOne:

Well, if Gen 1 is the original breeding stock, and in addition to breeding pure lines, hybrid are also bred

AngelicOne:

So, Gen 2 is a AB hybrid

AngelicOne:

And you breed the AB with a BC

AngelicOne:

so Gen 3 is 1/2 B, 1/4 A and 1/4 C

AngelicOne:

And you breed that with another AB

AngelicOne:

So you get a 1/8 C 3/8 A 4/8 B

Technomaniac:

Ahhhhh

Technomaniac:

Very messy

AngelicOne:

Yep

Technomaniac:

Eventually you could end up with a 3/32 C, 9/32 A and 20/32 B or something

AngelicOne:

Exactly

AngelicOne:

I'm sure that such a hybrid would be interesting, but if I came up with combinations for all of them..

Technomaniac:

You'd never finish

AngelicOne:

Nope

Technomaniac:

So, what have you done?

AngelicOne:

I've only taken the combinations down to 8ths - if a hyrbid has an '8th' in it, you can't breed them unless between them and their partner they won't produce a 16th

Technomaniac:

Huh?

AngelicOne:

Okay, take our example above, with the 1/8C

Technomaniac:

Okay

AngelicOne:

YOu can only breed that hybrid to another hyrbid who has 1/8C or more

AngelicOne:

Like, if you had two CAAABBBB's you could breed them together

AngelicOne:

Because the offspring would all be CAAABBBBs

Technomaniac:

Ahhhhh I see

Technomaniac:

Hmm, sounds like that would be an interesting bit of programming

AngelicOne:

And just to make things interesting...

Technomaniac:

Yeah?

AngelicOne:

Sometimes you can have an uprising of your warriors, resenting being bred for war

Technomaniac:

Hahahahahahaha

AngelicOne:

And a few other stupid but fun things like that

Technomaniac:

Cool

Technomaniac:

And the name?

AngelicOne:

Well, I was going to call it 'brood wars' except there's already a game called that

Technomaniac:

Yeah! I haven't played that in ages...

AngelicOne:

Progeny

Technomaniac:

Cool

Technomaniac:

And the other one?

AngelicOne:

I call it "Home Sweet Home"

Technomaniac:

haha

AngelicOne:

You play an ordinary, every day man or woman, in a small village

AngelicOne:

the village is precariously situated, and regularly invaded by monsters

AngelicOne:

and there are always heros showing up and fighting them off

Technomaniac:

heh

AngelicOne:

The goal is to make a life for yourself

AngelicOne:

Or rather, make it to a ripe old age

Technomaniac:

hahaha

AngelicOne:

You can get a job and/or run a business

AngelicOne:

and get married and raise a family

AngelicOne:

Your house and/or place of business can be destroyed

AngelicOne:

YOu can help your neighbours rebuild

AngelicOne:

STuff like that

AngelicOne:

The idea came to me after playing the hero so often in these poor little villages who did no one any harm except to be built in the wrong spot, heh

Technomaniac:

Haha

Technomaniac:

Yeah... this sounds interesting

Technomaniac:

Can you ever fight the monsters yourself?

AngelicOne:

You can try... but unless you're physcally active all the time, you'll probably die

Technomaniac:

Great

Technomaniac:

What about the kids?

Technomaniac:

Computer generated or player?

AngelicOne:

I couldn't decide, myself

AngelicOne:

So in the end, I decided that they're computer generated until their 'coming of age'

AngelicOne:

at which time the player gets to decide whether they remain computer generated or to play them themselves

Technomaniac:

cool

AngelicOne:

Mwahaha, computer generated are free game

AngelicOne:

Anyway, your villagers get community points for doing things like helping rebuild other people's house and community buildings and giving food and money to the needy and stuff

AngelicOne:

And you can get profiteering points, for doing things like looting houses nad bodies and begging when you don't need to

Technomaniac:

hahahahaha

AngelicOne:

And these points effect what kind of standing you have in the village and what retirement you have

AngelicOne:

(for people who don't want their villager to die of old age when he/she is old a decrpit)

Technomaniac:

Haha

Technomaniac:

Well, it sounds interesting

AngelicOne:

stuff like that

AngelicOne:

thanks

Technomaniac:

In a year or so we're going to have to produce Joolesgaim 2

AngelicOne:

haha

Technomaniac:

seriously

Technomaniac:

keep your original one free as the taster, and make everyone susbscribe to play the sequel

AngelicOne:

You're just itching to make it aren't you?

Technomaniac:

Yep

Technomaniac:

But it's too early for it at the moment

AngelicOne:

Agreed.
