Kit's first birthday

Tanya and Leroy

Tanya chuckled as she opened up the door.

"He's turning one," she giggled. "Not seven. He can't even open one present on his own yet, much less... however many it is that you've burdened yourself with."

"Eight," Leroy replied, stepping through the door.

Tanya shut it behind him.

"He can't even eat the cake I got. Let's face it, that's more for our benefit."

Leroy grinned. Then he set everything down upon seeing his son playing on the floor.

"Kit m'boy!" he greeted. "It's Daddy!"

Leroy scooped up young Kit in his arms.

"Happy first birthday,"

Kit giggled as Leroy swung him around.

"If you make him throw up his lunch, you're cleaning it up," Tanya advised with a smile.

Leroy grinned back. Soon, the small family, such as it was, gathered around a small cake. Leroy held Kit up to the lone candle and 'helped' him blow it out.

"Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday dear Ki-it
Happy birthday to you!

Leroy and Tanya split the cake between them, and Kit had some of his favourite food and some small pieces of the cake as a treat. Tanya unwrapped the presents while Leroy held Kit so he could watch... or that was the idea, anyway. Kit tended to find Leroy's hair more interesting than any of the toys he had bought him.

All in all, it was an enjoyable little birthday party, and escaped from being marred from previous unpleasantness between them.
