Duke's First Major Audition

Written by Michelle

Duke

"Duke Braddock?"

Duke stood up. He glanced briefly back at Rowena, who gave him an encouraging smile, and then followed the man who had called his name through the door. The man closed the door behind him and took a seat behind a desk with two other people. Duke stood in the middle of the floor.

"Whenever you're ready," said one of the other adults.

Duke nodded. He took a deep breath, and then launched into the first of his three pieces. When he finished, he waited for them to finish jotting notes and give him his cue for his second piece.

For his third piece - which was an excerpt from the pilot episode of the TV show, the woman read out the other characters' dialog.

"Okay," said the first man at the end. "Thank you Duke, if you could just wait outside for a moment."

Duke nodded and went out the door. After what seemed like forever, the man opened the door, stepped out and gave him a slip of paper.

The next thing Rowena knew, Duke was bounding back to her, all smiles.

"I got a second audition!" he exclaimed delightedly.

"That's great, honey," Rowena smiled. "I knew you'd do great."
