JD grabbed Avery's arm and pulled her to him. He leant down and kissed her softly, wrapping his arms around her waist. He felt Avery's arms encircle his neck and he pulled back to smile at her.
"Hey," he said.
"Hey," she replied, a teasing glint in her eye. "So... I take it that means you missed me..."
"Maybe," JD teased back, and kissed her gently again. "Was it good being home?"
"Yeah, even went back to the Station," Avery told him, reluctantly pulling out of his grasp. She grinned to herself as he took her hand with one arm, and with the other, slung her bag over his shoulder.
"Sort everything out back there?" he asked.
"Kinda, I mean... it was weird, but I think I left on a good note," Avery answered, letting him lead the way to the car. "How was life without me?"
"Oh you know, dull," JD laughed. "Just worked with mum basically."
"Same old, same old then," Avery observed.
"You know it."
JD let go of her hand to open the car, tossing her bag into the backseat, before sliding into the driver's side. Avery hopped into the passenger seat and buckled her seatbelt, leaning back against the chair.
"So... um..." Avery started awkwardly.
"I like you," JD answered, before she could say another word. "And I get the feeling you like me. And I think we should stop dancing around in circles and do something about it because I don't want to let this slip between our fingers."
Avery gaped at him for a moment. "Um..."
"So basically, I'm asking you to be my girlfriend," JD rushed out. "I know there's that age difference, but you know what? It doesn't matter because I like you. And if you like me, then it shouldn't be a problem, it was never a problem in our friendship."
"Whoa, JD, calm down," Avery said, looking over at him. "I... I'd love to."
"Oh good, coz I was thinking the car ride home might be a little awkward if it all went the other way," JD joked, then leant across and kissed her again. "And you don't have to tell your brothers or anything, if you think they'd disapprove."
"If they do, they can bite me," Avery replied firmly, kissing him back. "My life."
JD grinned at her, then started the car. "So, hows about we pick up some dinner and movies, then vegetate tonigt?"
"Sounds awesome," Avery told him, closing her eyes in bliss.
