Thinking of the future

Madame Bella and Mia

It had been a few months now, since Madame Bella had learned about the existance of aliens. Some of her colleages had taken the news easily, some warily, but most like her - it took awhile to comprehend. Especially when the Daths and Sems were able to appear to be human so easily.

Today, Madame Bella was visiting the underworkings of the Genovian Society of Mutants - the YIRAAS HQ. SHe looked around in awe at their teleportation room.

"What is that?" she asked.

"A teleportation amplifier," said a voice behind her.

"Oh..."

Princess Mia grinned, and continued: "Since most teleporters can't teleport very far, they're making these - a whole bunch of them and are putting them in population centres around the world. Just to make travel easier."

She said nothing about the Space Station - in fact, she was one of the few govenment officials that even knew about the space station. It was at this point that Madame Bella turned. Her eyes widen when she realised who she was talking to.

"Your Majesty!" she exclaimed, starting to give a bow. "Forgive me I -"

"Don't worry about it," Mia said. "I enjoying getting away from the pomp and ceremony."

"Oh... uhh..."

Mia grinned, then decided to make it easier on the young woman and carry on the converstation.

"They have these things everywhere. Sure making travelling a lot easier. Have to be vigourous maintained though - the slightest problem and the whole things can explode. The first one we had did. Ugh. And then right after they put the replacement in, they redesigned the darn things to make them easier to produce and maintain. How's that for rotten timing? But they just got through replacing all the old design ones now - we got this new one just the other day."

Madame Bella nodded.

"So, what bring you down here?" Mia inquired.

"Oh," Madame Bella replied with a nervous giggle, "just giving myself my own personal tour."

She shook her head slightly, realising that although she had met the Princess of Genovia before - when she toured her business - she was a lot more nervous now than she had been then. Perhaps it had something to do with being on home turf.

"It's incredible, isn't it?" Mia mused. "They certainly have some facinatig powers at their disposal."

"Yes, yes it is."

There was quiet for a moment.

"Maybe, one day, all humans will be mutants. We won't be all that much different from the Daths and Sems, then will we? Everyone will have powers and we'll all delight in them, and cater to them and do amazing and miraculous things with them. That's one thing I find so exciting about the mutant businesses. We're using our powers to accomplish things. And what's more, some of the things we can do can even replace some of the more poluting industries," the Greenpeace supporting young lady said dreamily.

Madame Bella smiled.

"Yes," she agreed softly. "Things are starting to move that way, although I'm sure it'll be a long time before mutants and humans are fully integrated. Even with so many countries now following Genovia's lead and enabled equal rights for mutants."

"It's a day to look forward to."
