Avery spread the blanket out on the grass and sat down in the centre of it, crossing her legs. She stared off into the distance for a moment, taking several deep breaths. She tilted her face up to the sky, taking a moment to bask in the sunshine, enjoying the time alone. It still felt weird to be at home, but she was slowly getting used to it.
Avery closed her eyes and took another deep breath, blocking out the burdens from everyday life, the traffic that was like white noise to everyone, looked past it all, heard past it all so that there was silence from the outside world. All she could hear was the wind rustling through the leaves of the trees, faintly a running stream, crickets, birds chirping somewhere in the distance, lizards or perhaps small animals creeping through bushes.
The wind blew Avery's hair away, the purple locks flying away from her face, streaming out behind her body. Her eyes opened, shining gold as she focused her powers, watching the telepathic energy swirl out in front of her. Telepathic energy was kinda pretty to look at, golden glittering lights, swirling around in random directions, just waiting to be manipulated. She reached one arm out, letting the energy swirl around it.
Telepathic energy looked different to each telepath. It really just depended on the person who had created it, as the energy was more or less a shadow of that person.
"Take..."
Avery's eyes narrowed in concentration as the energy swirled around in front of her, roughly forming a shape. It twisted and glowed, controting itself into what she was willing it to become. Her eyes flashed, causing a flash in the sparkling light surrounding her, the energy weaving around itself to form a small glowing circle. It more or less looked like a mini version of the sun, it was glowing so brightly.
"Sun Sphere."
She concentrated and focused on the Sun Sphere entering her mind, wrapping around her brain, specifically the department where the emotions were stationed. From here, she could see her depression, her happiness, what made her tick. She let the Sun Sphere slide into those sections, wrapping itself around the whole sect, inserting itself into the crevices, filling her with a sort of warmth. Her eyes fluttered, and she exhaled loudly.
Seconds later, she shook her head, her eyes returning to their natural colour. The Sun Sphere's basic purpose was to clear the mind of any burdens, and stronger ones could cure a telepathic headache, only if you had a headache in the first place, the chances of you wanting to create something yourself to cure it was unlikely. And other people's Sun Sphere's would never work as well as your own, especially if they were not a highly ranked telepath. But mainly, it was always easier to use and create your own devices for yourself because no one knew your own mind quite like you did.
Avery continued to sit, staring into the distance, facing away from the house. She slowly let the sounds back in. She could faintly hear her family's thoughts, even Taylor and Zac's, and they were a considerable distance away. What was more shocking was that she could still hear JD's thoughts, could still access his mind and leave her prescence there.
Her abilities were growing, she knew that, it was obvious. The amount of voices in her head was growing, she was pretty sure she could hear faint whispers of thoughts from nearly the nearby cities. She was fairly confident that she could break a telepathic shield too, given the right tools and just a bit of persistance. She could probably even collar people, but she wasn't about to go trying that out at the moment.
The Sun Sphere had a sort of placebo affect. Though it didn't make you happier as such, knowing it had cleared your mind did help boost your happiness level a bit, and Avie was feeling the effects of that. She remained sitting upright, hands balanced on her knees.
Avery closed her eyes and brought her telepathic energy swirling around her again. This time, it was almost white, so bright and glittering, the way a spider web looks when it has drops of dew on it, and the sun hits it at just the right angle. She thread the energy together, using her hands subconsciously to guide it all into place. With a raised eyebrow, she slid the final bit of energy into it's position, completing the golden glowing star, with dangerously sharp edges.
It was a Star Blade, and could cut the mind of any enemy to shreds. Sort of an alarm system with it's own defence mechanism. It sat in the entrance of your mind and didn't allow an unfamiliar or unfriendly prescence in the mind. Only those with permission, those who were trusted by Avery, could enter her mind, if not, the Star Blade would trigger, sending out a warning before ruthlessly attacking whoever was snooping. It would basically be for people snooping in her brain while she was asleep, or unconscious, if for anytime she was unable to access her own power quick enough, the Star Blade would do the job.
It was an invention she'd been working on for almost a year, ever since the encounter with the Eye... when she'd killed him. She'd become a lot more aware of her capabilities and feared for her own safety. If she had been able to enter the Eye's mind without him resisting, then it was fairly likely that a trained telepath could enter her mind, even with shields.
Since the incident with the Eye, she'd been working on an alarm system for herself, only she hadn't known really how to put it together. Through her classes at the Station, but more specifically, the classes with Tanya, she'd learnt how to control her energy and harness it, and use it to create things, and had found out about the rare - although not completely uncommon - practice of creating a totally new object. The Star Blade was her first big accomplishment. The Sun Sphere was her own device too, but as it's purpose was merely to cleanse the mind, it wasn't that difficult to make.
Paranoid, to have her own security alarm in her brain? Maybe. Although not entirely unfounded. If she was ever asleep, or caught offguard, the Star Blade would most likely save her life. She had to ring Tanya now, had to get back in contact with her, to tell her that she was able to do these things, able to control her energy enough to create unknown objects.
Avery slid the Star Blade into it's correct position in her mind, then shook herself out of the tracelike state she'd been operating in. She stood up, picked up the blanket and headed for the house. She went into her room and picked up Jade from her box on her bedside table, then climbed onto her bed. She put the fuzzle down onto her stomach and let Jade play around, petting the ball of fuzz as she did so.
