Alexa woke up to see Sextus, in chicken form, nestled in her arms. She smiled, but the smile vanished as she felt movement behind herself in the bed.
"Where'd the chicken come from?" asked a male voice.
Oh no. She didn't, did she?
"Mine," Alexa replied.
"You keeping it for food?"
Alexa frowned, and looked around at the young man she had slept with.
"No!"
"Sorry! Just asking," then he muttered something about having a weird pet.
Alexa started getting up.
"Where you going?"
"Away."
"You haven't got anywhere to go."
"So?" Alexa asked, slipping back into her clothes. "Better than here with you."
"That's not what you were saying last night."
Alexa turned away so he wouldn't see the tears threatening to form in her eyes. She had tried so hard. It had gotten to the point where she was having problems forming any thoughts in her head that weren't sex related. As long as it was a physically mature male humanoid with a pulse, nothing else mattered.
She finished dressing, picked up Sextus and left. Her mind was clearer now - clearer than it had been in months, which only made her more upset. She thought it took a few days before you conceived, but maybe that was before you knew you had, or maybe the magic tranformation Medea had put on her hand changed that aspect of her too. It had changed so much of her already, why not conception rate too?
Well, she couldn't go back. She couldn't. Medea would just take her babies and exploit them, just like she was planning to do to the others. Alexa, wished not for the first time, that she could have taken all her children with her.
Alexa headed off, not knowing where she was going or where the next meal was going to come from, only that she was going to stay as far away from Tulsa and Medea as possible.
It never entered her mind that the direction she was walking was in a direct line to Tulsa.
