Cutting short the lecture

Written by Michelle

Friday

Friday was relaxing in the library late one night when Kate came waddling in.

"Friday," she said.

Friday looked up and smiled, fingers curled around the book.

"Hi Kate," she said cheerfully.

"You're supposed to be out patrolling."

"I'm also supposed to keep my grades up," Friday pointed out. "One night off for studying isn't going to -"

Friday cut herself off as Kate lurched forward. Swiftly, Friday was out of her seat and supporting the heavily pregnant woman.

"Are you okay?" she asked, concerned.

"I... I think I'm going into labour... Can you help me to the infirmary?"

"Sure. Absolutely," Friday replied.

Studying forgotten, Friday supported Kate and helped her to the infirmary, where the staff reacted immediately. Unable to do anything else to help, Friday stood back, until it occured to her to get John. She turned and raced off to find him - there were only a few likely places, and Friday took the liberty of slipping through a few walls with her atom manipulation.

"Friday! What are you doing here?" John frowned. "You're supposed to be out patrolling."

"One little night off to study isn't going to hurt," Friday said. "If it makes you feel any better I'll kill double tomorrow night."

"Friday -"

"Oh quit complaining and let me give you the news: Your wife whom you love an adore so very much, and was giving me the same lecture, might I add - is going into labour."

John stopped short from rebuking Friday's rudeness.

"Labour?" he repeated.

"Uh huh. She's in the infirmary now."

John dropped what he was doing and started toward the door, then stopped and looked at Friday.

"Thanks Friday," he said.

And he was off again, leaving Friday feeling rather pleased with herself.
