It was nearing midnight when Dean headed back to the impala. He was taking back streets so as to stay out of the celebratory crowd's way. While he felt like ditching everything and joining in for once, Sam had been insistant they get this job done. And besides, he could use any info they got...
He made it to the car and threw his bag into the back seat, before getting in to drive. He had to meet up with Sammy a few blocks away where he'd cornered one of the bastards.
Five minutes and he was there. He reached over and grabbed the bag again, left the car unlocked, and headed up into the half-built house they'd been squatting in.
"Sam?!"
"Through here," he heard his brother's voice a few rooms over.
When he got closer he saw candlelight, then their shadows, and then his brother and the demon.
"Take yur time, I've got eternity," the demon scowled.
"Itching to get back home, huh?" Dean smirked, throwing he bag down and unzipping it.
"Close enough. If I have to sit here and listen to you pathetic losers going on about the sanctity of life and all that crap I'll gladly help you finish he job."
"Well see, there's just one problem with that."
Dean threw some Holy water over him, and waited as the smoke settled.
"We need info."
"He's been told. I say we just gut him," Sam shrugged, "he won't tell us anything."
"You're damn right. I don't care what you do."
"How about we pull out the slowest and post painful exorcism we know of," Dean smirked at Sam.
"It's right here," Sam opened the book he'd been holding.
The demon's face turned from a sadistic grin to a scowl.
"Why don't we get started," Dean grinned.
Faith
Faith kicked, spinning as she felt her foot connect with the demon's jaw. Her hand went behind her to pull out her knife. the silver blade glinting in the moonlight.
The demon charged at her and she dodged to the side, ducking the blow that was aimed at her. She snapped out a kick and then slid the blade through it's heart, dragging upwards to get the point across.
But before she could congratulate herself on a job well done, she had that horrible sensation of flying, and she tried to prepare herself for the inevitable smash onto the concrete below.
Instead, she landed on something kind of soft.
"Oof."
Dean & Sam
Dean had ducked to the side as the ceiling caved in, soon hearing a yelp from his brother.
"Sam?" Dean frowned, rushing back over to the pile of rubble.
He immediately realised his mistake and turned back, seeing the demon already nowhere in sight.
"Son of a bitch," he scowled, kicking at the chair, before suddenly remembering his brother had been squashed.
He bent down to the pile again and started pulling planks off, waving the dust away s he heard Sam coughing.
Faith
As soon as she felt the planks being pulled off her, Faith rolled off whoever or whatever had cushioned her fall.
Only to find herself laying next to Sam.
Huh.
She coughed and pushed her way out of the rubble.
Dean & Sam
"Hold it!" Dean snatched the arm of whatever/whoever had moved.
He pulled her to her feet, then just stared in shock.
"...I don't believe it."
Meanwhile, Sam struggled to sit up and throw the rest of the ceiling off himself.
Faith
Faith turned to help Sam get out from under the chaos she'd more or less caused.
"You ok?" she asked him, ignoring Dean for the moment.
Dean & Sam
"Fine," Sam grunted, managing to finally stand up and dust off his jeans.
Then he looked up.
"Faith?" his brow furrowed.
"What are you doing here?" Dean added.
Faith
Faith shrugged slightly.
"Thanks," she said to Sam. "You know, for the cushioning. Quite comfortable. For me, anyway."
Then she turned to Dean. "Heard about some demon activity in the area. More so than usual. Figured I'd try and be responsible and instead of partying, I'd kick some ass."
Dean & Sam
Dean nodded, "same deal."
Sam continued brushing the dust off his clothes.
"Of course, now we're down one," Dean looked over his shoulder, "better get back in the field. Sam? You good to go?"
"I'm good."
Faith
Faith flicked her hair back, dislodging some of the dust in the process.
"Sorry about that."
She adjusted her knife and then straightened up.
"Anyway... it's almost midnight and I'm off to bring in the new year with a bang so..."
She glanced at Sam so quickly it would barely be noticeable, then at Dean.
Dean & Sam
"I guess you can always do that in more ways than one," Dean mused, packing things bac into his duffel.
"Guys," Sam whined.
Faith
"Well, you know what they say," Faith said, folding her arms. "The way you spend New Years is how you'll spend the rest of the year... so I plan on spending it by feeling really, really..."
She grinned seductively at Dean.
"Naughty."
Dean & Sam
"That's it," Sam huffed, taking the bag from Dean and throwing it over his shoulder.
"What?" Dean looked clueless.
"You two can continue your little love fest cross country for all I care, but I have a job to do. Tonight. So I'm taking the car and I'm going after Joe."
With that he snatched the keys from his brother's belt, and turned to leave the house.
"So I take it you're gonna spend the year in a bad mood then, huh?" Dean called after him.
Faith
As determined as she was not to watch him, Faith found that her eyes followed Sam out of the house and kept watching until he disappeared from sight.
Only then, did she turn back to Dean.
"So... I feel like you should spend the next year feeling good about yourself."
She started out the door, looking back over her shoulder briefly.
"You coming?"
Dean
"Guess I don't have a choice," Dean shrugged, "not that I'm complaining. We should hit the road before the cops check out the noise anyway."
He stepped over some scaffolding and caught up to her.
"Where do you have in mind for our new year welcoming party?"
Faith
"Hotel. Motel. Thing. Whatever."
Faith gave him a sideways glance as they were walking.
"So... your brother. What's his deal?"
Dean
"What do you mean?" Dean asked, glancing quickly back over his shoulder as he heard his car's motor gunning.
Faith
"Oh you know," Faith said casually. "He's just... kinda broody. Don't get me wrong, the puppy eyes are very cute, but I don't know. Seems like he needs to find the fun a little."
She shrugged.
Dean
"Yeah, he's lost the fun for now. Who am I kidding, he's never had it. Not to talk down on him or nothing but I was kinda brought up with this life. You knw, hunting stuff. It was forced onto him a bit later in life so he's alwys kinda rejected it."
Dean shrugged.
"But he's got some tough times ahead, so I don't see him lightening up anytime soon."
Faith
Faith was silent for a moment, listening to Dean talk.
"What do you mean, he's got some tough times ahead? You'll be there for him, though, right?"
For some reason, the thought of Sam being in trouble really bothered her.
Dean
Dean mused in silence for a moment, debating what he should tell her.
"Maybe it's a topic for another time," he suggested, "but obviously I'm not gonna be around forever, you know? I don't know how he's going to handle being on his own. I mean I know he's a big boy and he can take care of himself, but it just seems lately that he's going a little overboard on the gung-ho business. He might take it too far one day."
Faith
Faith digested that last bit of information slowly, wondering inwardly why it was bothering her so much. She didn't know him. She didn't need to know him more than an occasional hello. He wasn't really a friend. He was the brother of her current sex buddy. He didn't matter.
But he did, sort of.
"Oh," she said, before realising she should probably say more. "Well... if you guys ever need my help or anything..."
Dean
Dean looked across at her, an eyebrow raised.
"If you really mean that I might take you up on it, so be careful," he chuckled.
Faith
"Well, you know," Faith said, slipping back into her usual flip self. "You've helped me out a few times. And your brother saved my ass tonight. Literally. So, I figure I owe you."
She looked up at the sky for a moment.
Dean
Dean nodded.
"Then I'll collect," he smiled, slipping his hands into his pockets.
He looked across at her again.
"Are you cold?" he asked, noticing she was wearing less than half what he was.
Faith
Faith looked over at him and smiled slyly.
"I could use some warming up."
Dean
"Well, until we get to the motel," Dean shrugged his jacket off and haded it to her, "this will have to do. But hey, we'll make up for it right?"
Faith
"I hope so."
Faith slipped his jacket on and was immediately swamped inside of it, but nonetheless, she was warm.
"Here we go..."
She led him up to the motel.
Dean
"Nicer than the last one," Dean looked it over as he waited for her to unlock the door.
"Not that it doesn't look like just about every other motel out there."
Faith
"I find the only good thing about them is the mini bar... and the bed."
Faith unlocked the door and pulled Dean inside.
Dean
When Dean found his footing, he leant in to kiss her. Kicking the door shut behind him.
The he backedover to the bed, pulling her with him.
