Tru and Liam

Tru slipped into her seat and opened her book, looking expectantly at Liam, who was at his desk, brows knitted together.

Over the last few lessons, they'd gotten too close to crossing the line and had struggled to pull themselves out of the hole they were slowly digging.

"So, what's on the agenda today?" Tru asked, crossing her legs.

"What?" Liam seemed shocked that she had entered the room.

"You know... history...?" Tru looked concerned. "Are you ok?"

"I'm fine," he snapped, then his tone softened. "I'm fine."

Tru flinched a little at the harsh way he had spoken to her. "Ok... is there... is there anything I can do?"

"No, and if you don't mind, I'd rather not talk about it," Liam replied curtly.

"Ok," Tru replied, eyes welling with tears. "Fine."

And with that, she got up and left.

Liam started after her and then fell back against his chair, burying his head in his hands.
