Faith sat perched on top of a mausoleum, eyes focused at an unknown point on the ground, watching and waiting. Just waiting. Forever waiting, these days.
If only Airlia would get in contact. She didn't have to come back if she wasn't ready, but Faith just needed to know that her daughter was alright. Was alive. Wasn't too broken.
A slight shift in the air behind her and she smiled a little.
"Kim."
"So, the rumour is true," Kim said, walking carefully to sit beside her. "Faith has returned to Cleveland. Also, Slayers can sense everything."
Faith smiled lightly, turning to look at him. "Yep. Back for another teaching stint. How've... how've you been?"
"Same old," he shrugged. "What about you? I heard about Lia."
"Yeah." Faith returned her gaze to the ground. "She disappeared after it was over. Just... left."
Kim covered her hands with his own. "I can find her, if you like."
She shook her head. "She'll come back when she's ready. She's like me, you can't force her with anything."
"Are you alright?"
"Sometimes."
He slid his arms around her shoulders as the first drops of rain fell from the sky. The rain graudally fell more heavily, drenching the pair who remained motionless.
"Come on," Kim said, about to 'port them.
"No," Faith objected softly. "I just want to sit here for a bit."
"Ok," he replied gently, holding onto her a little tighter.
And so they sat, the former couple, bodies entwined as the sky opened up and wept, crying the tears that Faith could never - would never - cry. No matter how much she wanted to.
Kim pulled the tiny Slayer against his chest and kissed the top of her head, not questioning what this meant for them, just being there for her.
Because that's all she needed.
