Let's try this again

Cliff and Corinne

Corinne stepped into the dining room to see the floor strewn with red petals. The table was set with a table cloth, and there were candles alight in the centre. Cliff was standing off to the side.

"Cliff?" Corinne asked, surprised.

"Have a seat," Cliff said, holding it out for her.

Pleasantly surprised, Corinne sat down, allowing Cliff to push the chair in. The chair scraped the floor on the way and Corinne winced at the sound. Cliff sat down, then stood up again quickly and brought over two plates of spaghetti that had been sitting on the kitchen bench.

"Here you go," he said.

"Well, this is... all very nice," Corinne said.

"Thanks," Cliff replied. "Look, I'm sorry about the WoW thing, I... I thought that you'd like it."

Corinne looked away from him.

"Friday and Julie thought it was a great idea."

"Well, they're both weird."

"I can't argue with that," Cliff chuckled. "But if it's any consolation, Day thinks you're weird too."

He opted not to tell how about Friday's desire to beat her up.

"I really thought you would like it," Cliff went on hurriedly. "I didn't mean to upset you."

Corinne was quiet for a moment, then finally smiled.

"It's okay," she said.

"Great," Cliff beamed. "Champagne?"

"Since when do you drink champagne?"

"Umm, tonight?"

Corinne giggled as Cliff poured them a glass.

"To us," Cliff said, and they clinked glasses.

The he watched expectedly as Corinne took a sip, frowned, shrugged slightly and took a sip of his own.

"Oh, darn."

"What?"

"I gave you the wrong glass."

"What do you mean?"

Sighing with annoyance, Cliff showed her the ring he had at the bottom of the champagne glass. Corinne giggled as he fished it out.

"Will you marry me, Corinne?"

"Yes," Corinne smiled.
