That Moment

Written by AiMsTeR

Christian & Emily

Christian found his way up to the front door of the house, and turned the doorknob finding it locked. Hesitating a moment, he carefully used his atom manipulation to unlock it and quietly slipped through.

Closing the door behind him, he was now in pitch black with not even any moonlight to guide him. Finding his way through the hallway, he was looking for the main bedroom.

Before he got there however, he felt an invisible hand around his throat and froze.

"What are you doing?" came a quiet voice from in front of him.

"Visiting?" Christian suggested, raising an eyebrow.

He stood still for a moment, waiting, before he felt the hand remove itself. A moment later the hall light was switched on, and Emily was standing in front of him.

"Chris?" her voice cracked.

He grinned.

She stared at him for a moment, before practically throwing herself at him and hugging him as tight as she could.

"I told you I'd be back," he insisted, leaning his chin down on her head.

"I always forget..."

"Forget what?" he asked softly.

"That I can trust you."

He hesitated a moment further, before managing to pry the girl away from him and look her in the eye.

"You can trust me," he insisted, his hands slipping onto her shoulders, "I hope you always remember that. I got you out of there, didn't I?"

She nodded.

"Twice," she added with a chuckle, her voice getting emotional.

Christian hesitated then smiled again, and leant down to kiss her. She responded emphatically, honestly not wanting it to end. After what seemed like forever, he stood up again.

"Now... I hope I didn't wake you," he insisted, taking his hands off her and holding one out.

She took it and shook her head.

"I don't sleep much," he admitted with a shrug as he began to lead her out into the dining room.

He turned the light on and looked around.

"Nice place," he said with a nod, leading her over to the table.

"Steel got it for me. About two months ago."

"Yeah? What have you been doing since?"

"He... he got me a job," her eyebrows rose as she sat down at the table, "in a nursery."

"With babies?"

"No, no. A flower nursery. I get there by bus. He said once I've established myself he won't have to give me money anymore..."

Christian nodded.

"Cool. Do you like it?"

"It's alright. They like me there."

There was silence for a moment as Christian just watched her. After a moment, he pulled his chair over next to hers and carefully wrapped his arm around her shoulders. She leant into him, trying not to get emotional.

"It'll be ok," he whispered, "we'll work this out. I promise. Then we won't have to worry about him anymore."
