Julie was just walking from the study to the kitchen when the inevitable moment arrived. She went into labour.
Taking a breath, she went back into the study and picked up the phone, just as another contraction hit. Twin #1 was deterimined to come out as quickly as possible, this was for sure.
Julie hurriedly dialed the mansion (thank goodness for speed dial). There was no way she was going to go to a human facility - not when she was having mutant children. Who knew what powers they had - and what would be the reaction if anyone found out.
To Julie's annoyance, the person who answered the phone was obviously new at the job, and was taking it rather pedantically. Dr McCoy was a very busy man, couldn't be interupted with every headache and sore throat. Had to check her bonafides before patching her though. Julie railed at him that she was in labour and needed to be put through to him now, but he simply said that chucking a tantrum wouldn't do her any good, and neither would making those weird groaning noises - and would she please knock it off? To which Julie's response was to threaten to report him to Scott for his incompetance, to which the response was that he was following his instructions to the letter.
Julie became convinced he was purposely doing this just to annoy her. In which case it was working. And in the course of her railing, yelling, groaning and threatening... she had to readjust her position on her office chair as she felt twin #1 start to poke its way out. Thank goodness she had a headset for the phone set up in here - she was certain she would have broken the phone in her grip had it been a handheld.
Perhaps now that he was getting a running commentary on the labour at hand suddenly spurred him into getting Julie put through to Hank.
"Hank? Hank?" Julie wailed as soon as the phone was picked up. "It's Julie, I'm in labour."
Hank
"Oh dear," Hank said, "How far along are you, can you make it to the mansion on time?"
Julie
Julie groaned as another contraction hit.
"There's no way..." she gasped. "Baby... Baby's head is already out... I can't tell how far though... I think a shoulder might be out too..."
Hank
"All right, let me get my bag and a teleporter and I will be there right away," hank said. He grabbed hhis black bag.
"Sarah, I have a patient going into labor, can you take me to this adress right away?" Sarah nodded and teleported the blue man to Julie's, and then went back to school.
"All right, Julie, let's see what's happening here, let me lift you into bed."
Julie
Julie had barely managed to take the headset off after her call to Hank. She was now lying down on the study floor.
"Could idea," she gasped.
But it was on those very words that the baby completely entered the world.
Hank
Hank tied off the baby's chord, wrapped her in a towel and set her on Julie's chest.
"It's a girl and she's perfect, now just let me get you into bed," he said., He covered the sheets up with towels and lifted up Julie and her daughter and placed her on the bed.
"She was the quik one, but now you're shrinking back down, so I think it will be a bit before the next one."
Julie
"Ohhh, she's beautiful," Julie half sobbed. "Just beautiful... thank you..."
She wiped her daughter gently with the towel.
Hank
Hank pulled some things from his bag, "I just need to give her her Vitamin K shot, take her footprint and wash her off," he said as he took the baby into his arms, "I'll have her back to you in just a moment. Did you ever expect to have a home birth?" he asked, with a chuckle.
Julie
"No, no I didn't," Julie replied. "And I had also hoped Bobby would be with me at the time... but he's in class at the moment."
She hoped her daughter turned out to be just like her: she'd hate for her to turn out anything like Dirk.
Hank
He finished up and handed the baby back to Julie. "Have the contractions started back up again yet?"
Julie
Julie's response was a groan... as the contractions started again.
"Does that answer your question?" she asked wryly.
Not wanting to hurt her daughter, Julie laid the older twin on the other side of the bed.
Hank
"Do you want me to put her in the bassinet?" Hank asked, as he checked Julie's heartbeat & the baby's heartbeat, and Julie's blood pressure.
Julie
"Umm, yes please," Julie replied.
The contractions were not quite as close together as they were for Twin #1, but still reasonably close.
Hank
"It was a close call with the first one Julie, why didn't you call me when the contractions first started?" Hank asked as he placed the baby in the bassinet. He strolled quickly to the kitchen and got some ice for Julie to chew on.
Julie
"Umm, I did! I got held up but whoever was answering the blasted phone. Little turd. When I get my hands on then..." and Julie interupted herself with another contraction.
Hank
"Remind me to give Mark a stern talking to. He was the one who was answering ohones today." Hank took another look. "Alright, you're fully dilated-- again. It shouldn't be too much longer now. You ready?"
Julie
"As I'll ever be," Julie replied.
How come she was not the slightest bit surprised it was Mark?
Hank
"All right, Julie, when the next contraction hits I want you to start pushing, okay?"
Julie
"Okay," Julie agreed.
It wasn't long thereafter that the next contraction did come. And so Twin #2 began its emergance.
Hank
Twin #2 made a joyous arrival, and Hank checked him over and did everything he needed to do.
"It's a boy, and he's perfect, now just one more push for the afterbirth."
Julie
The afterbirth made its messy arrival (fortunately, Julie was too absorbed with being happy about her twins being born to think about how much fun it would be to clean up off the bed).
"A boy?" she whispered.
Well, there goes the 'name one Tinga, name the other Ziyal' idea. Not that she was disappointed.
Hank
Hank placed the boy in Julie's arms, and cleaned up all of the mess.
"Now let's get these birth certificates filled out. Do you have names figured out yet?"
Julie
Julie gazed down at her son, so enthralled she almost didn't hear the question.
"Well..." she said slowly. "I... I think..."
She frowned, thinking for a moment.
"My daughter will be Tinga Ziyal. That's T-i-n-g-a for Tinga, and Z-i-y-a-l for Ziyal. And this little fella will be... Joshua Garak. Garak is G-a-r-a-k."
Hank
"Alright," Hank said. "Now all I need is their last name. And who do you want me to put for their father? Or should I leave it as N/A?"
Julie
"Their last name is going to be Rocks, like mine," Julie said. "And I... I don't know who the father is."
"And I don't want to know," she thought to herself.
