First day of school

Written by Joy and Michelle

Susanna

Susanna revelled in the feel of water on her skin before baekfast. Even if there wasn't a rule that all students had to exercise before breakfast, she'd still be in the pool wimming laps. Ony one of the pools was finished, but the contractors assured Giles daily that they'd be finished soon. Oh well, this is what you get for subcontracting leprehcauns.

Carlee

Carlee finished sadling the horse and mounted. She took a moment to steady herself, and then started a plesant trott around the campus.

That stablehand was cute, what was his name? Ryder. He looked about her age.

She had to admit, she was rather glad that she didn't have to give up her early morning rides. She used to take them at home all the time, working on the family farm.

Dakota

Dakota knew she was supposed to be exercising, but ever since she and Kendra had spotted the far paddock, she wanted to know what was in it. After a short ride, she dismounted Pepper, and decided to go look.

~*~*~

Katrina knew that she could use the gymnasium, but it was such a nice day, and it might not be for much longer, so she went outside onto an empty field and started doing her tumbling. Backflips, somies, ariels, she did it all, oblivious to anybody watching.

Friday

Friday decided to go to the gym. She rather despised the idea of working out first thing in the morning, so if she was going to do any exercise, it was going to be gymnastics. Being able to flip and all that stuff might give her an edge in fighting.

Besides, Elektra was also an gymnast. Well, she aslo danced in a few issues too, but that was completely beside the point.

Darcy

Darcy decided it was entirely to early to be up, but she went to the dance building, and found an empty studio room. SHe locked the door, so that nobody could see her, and took her slippers out of her bag. It wouldn't do any good to her image if anybody knew. She tied on her ballet shoes, which she had attempted to dye black, and laced the ribbons up her legs. SHe put on some very loud heavy metal, thanking Giles silently for making the studios soundproof, and she started to dance. She jumped and twirled, and performed ballet to Slipknot and Marilyn Manson and SLayer.

Tiffany

Tiffany barely even noticed Darcy leave the room. She rolled over, glanced at the clock, pulled her covers over her head and went back to sleep.

Way, way too early to get up. She needed her beauty sleep.

Wilow and Rosalind

THe teachers knew that some of the girls were probably not morning people. So they decided to inforce school policy and start knocking on doors.

"All right, Ms. Stein," Rosalind said. "Up and at 'em. You know the rules. At least one hours of exercise before breakfast, time to get up."

~*~*~

"Okay, Elizabeth, it's time to get up," Willow said.

"Get stuffed."

"Alright McKinley, up, now."

"Fuck off."

Willow grinned evilly, and conjured a rain cloud above Lazer's head raining water on her, and causing her green hair dye to bleed into the pillowcase.

"BITCH!" Lazer screamed jumping out of bed. Willow had thought this one would be a challenge, and she was right. But, oh what a fun challenge it would be.

Elizabeth stormed into the washroom and got changed.

"What exercise do you want to do?"

"How about the exercise where I kick your ass and then go back to bed."

"Interesting. We'll try that sometime. BUt right now you're going to run laps until you find something more fun to do."

Tiffany

"Rack off," Tiffany muttered.

One hour of exercise before breakfast? She needed that long to get ready in the morning. Why, if she had to exercise as well...

Rosalind

"Alright," Rosalind said. "You might want to know that I am hydrokinetic. That means I can create and move water with my mind. So, unless you want to be lying in a river, you m ight want to get up," Rosalind warned her.

Friday

Much grumbling later, Tiffany made it out of bed, and stomped down to the gym. Friday, who was already down there of course, was attempting to get the hang of the parallel bars. Under supervision of course.

Tiffany just looked around with a scrowl on her face and relunctantly wandered over to where they were doing stomach crunches and such. One good thing about this place: at least she should be able to maintain her perfectly flat stomach.

Willow

Willow dragged Lazer down to the gym and ordered the girl to start working out. Darcy decided to go back to the gym and do some work there after her dance session by herself. SHe stuffed her slippers back in her bag, and wandered down to the gym in her black leotard, black tights, and a loose black sweater. She took off her sweater and mouted the balance beam, first walking on it on her hands, and then walking on her fingertips. She hated working out, but it was something she was used to. She still preferred words to work. She recited poetry to her self as she danced across the balance beam.

"Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary, through many volumes of forgotten lore," she canted as she practiced.

Friday

Friday slipped and fell to the floor.

"Oww! Okay that slightly hurt," she complained.

She stood up, thankful that there were mats under the bars.

Armelle

Armelle offered her roommate a hand up. "All this equipment. I wonder what I should start on."

Friday

"Thanks," said Friday.

She brushed herself off.

"Well... you could... okay I don't know," she said. "But I'm going to chalk up again and give it another shot."

Armelle

Armelle decided she'd give those rings a try. They looked interesting. With a spotter, of course, she was lifted onto the rings and hung for a while, trying to swing around.

Friday

Friday started to chalk up when she over heard one of the other students:

"You're only done three. Come on Ms Stein, you can do better than that."

"No, I can't. You can't make me. I refuse. I wish I never came to this stupid school."

Friday looked at Tiffany.

"I so knew there was going to be one of her type here," she thought to herself with a groan.

She clapped her hands together and went back to the bars.

Darcy

Soon a bell rang, letting them know it was time for breakfast. After breakfast they had a little while to shower and get dressed before classes. There was a buffet set up with cereals and milks and different beverages, fruit and some cooked foods. Darcy grabbed some fruit and orange juice and sat at a corner table by herself.

Friday

Friday piled up her plate with yummy breakfast-like foodstuffs and sat down at a table.

"Hi," said Carlee. "Mind if I sit here?"

"Go right ahead," Friday replied.

"I'm Carlee."

"Friday."

"Friday? Like in the movie?"

"Yeah... except I was born before it," Friday replied. "Or at least before the remake. I'm not sure about the orginal movie, or the book."

"It was a remake?"

"Yes."

"Well, there you go, I had no idea."

"And now you do," Friday grinned.

Armelle, Darcy and Lazer

Armelle sat next to her roommate and a girl she hadn't met yet.

"Hello, I'm Armelle," she introduced herself.

~*~*~

Lazer looked around the cafeteria. WEll, she had to sit somewhere, and there was one girl who didn't look to bad.

"Hey," she said, plopping down next to Darcy.

"Hey."

"Lazer."

"Darcy. You rave?"

"Sometimes. PRefer to mosh."

"Ditto. Not a big fan of butterflies, though."

"Tripped once, didn't much care for it. You prefer goth or metal?"

"Like 'em both, not a big fan of punk though. Love Manson and Rasputina, also love Rob Zombie, SLayer, Slipknot, etc."

"You're not a PV, are you?"

"With our calling, it's not exactly a safe lifestyle. Been friends with a few, I always want to smack them upside the head, though."

"Ditto."

Friday

"Armelle, this is Carlee, Carlee this is my roommate Armelle," Friday said.

"Hi," Carlee said cheerfully. "What did you guys do this morning? I went horse riding."

"Cool. I was in the gym. On the parallel bars for the most part."

Armelle

"Did you see the freaky goth girl on the balance beam?" Armelle asked. "She's really good. SHe looks like she has a bad attitude, though."

Friday

"I think so," Friday frowned. "But I mean... what about the dumb blonde on the mats?"

"Dumb blonde?" Carlee asked with raised eyebrows.

"Oh you know what I mean," Friday replied, waving a hand. "The stupid ditzy kind."

"Uh huh."

Armelle and Katrina

"Oh yeah. Seriously, I have to deal with these girls all the time, trying to marry my brothers, or become my friends just because of who my mum is. It's sickening. I hate those empty-headed girls. There is nothing that irks me more than cheerleader-types," Armelle said sighing. She waved over another girl she had just bumped into in the washroom earlier.

"Hey Kat. Katrina this is Friday and Carlee. Everybody this is Katrina. She's a gymnast."

Friday

"Hi," said Carlee.

"Yo," Friday said. "I've been trying to learn gymnastics. Y'know because I think it might come in useful fighting vampires. The fact that Elektra does gymnastics has nothing to do with it."

She grinned and her eyes sparkled with mischeif.

Armelle and Katrina

Armelle grinned. "I'd rather learn how to use an angled blade like Arwen Undomiel and a broadsword like Eowyn, while riding horseback. I can ride of course, been taking equestrian lessons sinceI was three, and I had to learn how to fence, whether I wanted to or not. BUt I want to learn how to use a proper sword, not a fencing foil, while riding on a horse, without hurting the horse," Armelle said, pretending to swordfight with her fork. KAtrina lifted her own fork.

"En garde!"

"Touche!"

Friday

Friday grinned.

"I'll stick with my sais," she said. "I love my sais."

"Sai?" Carlee asked.

"You don't know what a sai is?" Friday asked, wide-eyed. "Ever see the ninja turtle?"

Carlee shook her head.

"Man... Okay a sai is like a long thin dagger, but with a pronged hilt," Friday said. "Err... I don't know that that's a good description. I should probably show you mine later."

Armelle and Katrina

"So, we're all about the same age, do you guys all have Demonology first peroid?" Armelle asked, studying her schedule.

"I do," Katrina said.

Friday

"Yeah," Friday nodded.

"Yay, we all do," Carlee grinned.

"Whoo hoo! Let's lock the teacher out of the classroom! And play commandos!"

Carlee looked at her.

"What?"

"Perhaps not on the first day."

Friday grinned wickedly.

Armelle and Katrina

"I agree with Carlee," Armelle said. "Maybe we should wait a bit before we gang up on our teachers."

"Yeah. But maybe if they make us do too much maths, we can hide," Katrina suggested.

Friday

"Yes," Friday nodded. "Maths is evil."

"Maybe it was invented by demons?" Carlee suggested with a giggle.

"Could be."

Armelle

"I hate maths," Katrina said.

"I don't mind it much," Armelle said smiling.

Friday

"Well, can you do my maths for me then, since you like it so much?" Friday asked.

Armelle

"Well," Armelle said, "I said I didn't mind it much, not that I was actually any good at it," she giggled.

"It makes no sense to me," Katrina said., "I like history better."

Friday

"I like IT," Friday said. "Which is almost weird when I don't like maths since maths and computers are so interconnected, but that's completely besides the point."

"Of course it is," Lilly giggled. "I like English."

Armelle

"I think we should get showered and head to class, or we're going to be late," Armelle said, making a face.

Friday

Friday sighed.

"I suppose you're right. Last one to the showers is a rotten egg!"

Lilly giggled and bolted out with Friday.

Katrina, Armelle and Darcy

Katrina grinned as she and Armelle raced the others toward the dorm. They got back to their rooms and started getting ready. Armelle showered and got dressed and started putting on her make-up.

~*~*~

Darcy showered and then put on a black shirt and sweatshirt and an ankle-length black skirt, and then sat at her desk and put on her black lipstick and lined her eyes with black eyeliner. She glowered as Tiffany came in.

Friday

Friday showered and dressed. She made a conscious effort not to make some sort of remark about Armelle's putting make up on. Friday never bothered with the stuff herself, bust she realised that most girls did.

**********

Tiffany was still rather annoyed at her sleep being interupted. And even moreso at having her shower interupted by people who insisted she was taking too long. What would they know? She ignored Darcy and set about picking her clothes.

Now, pants or skirt?

Armelle and Darcy

Armelle stood up and shivered, so she grabbed a long jumper out of the closet.

"No uniforms, this country is so strange."

~*~*~*~

Darcy rolled her eyes and picked up her snake, petting him. "Hey baby," she said letting him slither all around her lap.

Friday

"I like not having to wear a uniform," Friday declared.

**********

Tiffany turned to hold a potential outfit to herself and study herself in the mirror when she saw Darcy... and her snake.

"Eeeek!" Tiffany shrieked.

Armelle

"Me too, but you have to admit that everything's easier with uniforms, you don't have to worry about what you're wearing if somebody else will wear the same clothes, or if you've already worn those clothes that week, you just put on the uniform and don't think about it."

Friday

Friday shrugged.

"I don't actually care if someone else is wearing the same thing as me," she said. "And I will wear the same clothes a couple of days in a row, or until they start to smell. Why waste water washing something that isn't all that dirty?"

Darcy

Darcy rolled her eyes.

"He's not going to hurt you, he's a great guy, not gonna hurt you at all."

Tiffany

"You're a freak!" Tiffany yelled. "Get rid of that stupid snake!"

Darcy

Darcy sighed and put Bob back in his tank. "He won't hurt you, you twit. He's more afraid of you than you are of him."

Tiffany

"Ugh," Tiffany shuddered.

Not entirely satisified that she was safe from that creature, Tiffany got dressed. She wondered if it were possible for her to get a new room. Maybe one all to herself.

Armelle

Armelle smiled. "Yeah, I've never had to worry about that, I have people who do all that stuff for me, although the downside is maids going through my room."

Friday

"Well, anyway, should be about time for..." and just as Friday was saying this, a bell rang, "class. That was the warning bell right? Saying we have ten minutes to get to class?"

Friday fetched her folders for the next couple of classes.

Darcy

Darcy laughed and grabbed her books, heading off to Demonology class.

Armelle

"I sure hope so," Armelle said, "because being late on the first day? Not a good way to make a good impression."

Friday

The first bell did indeed mean that, and Friday headed down to her demonology class with many others.

Dakota

Darcy strolled into the classroom and sat up front, but all the way to the side, by the window. The teacher was very young, not much older than her. SInce she had been with her watcher for years, Darcy expected that she knew more about Demonology than the teacher. Little did she know she was far wrong.

Armelle came into the classroom and smiled at Darcy and sat down, saving the seat next to her for Friday. The teacher looked young, but nice.

Lazer scoffed as she came into the room, and slumped down in the last row. SHe didn't want to be there and she wanted everybody to know it.

~*~*~*~

Dakota checked her schedule and saw that she had World History first period, so she headed off to class. Keisha, Gaia and Kendra were already there, with a few other girls Dakota hadn't met yet. The teacher looked young, really young, but she figured there was a reaspn for everything.

Friday

Friday sat down next to Armelle.

"Dude, she must be pretty close to our age... unless she's one of those people who are a few decades older than they look."

Tiffany sauntered in, one of the last to arrive and took a seat as far away from Darcy as possible.

**********

Susie waited until the last of the students had arrived, then she stood up from her desk, and walked in front of the whiteboard.

"My name is Susie. I'm your teacher for World History."

Kendra looked at her curiously. She never had a teacher before that said to call her by her first name!

"I'm closer to your grandparents age, in some cases maybe even your great-grandparents age, than yours, so don't be decieved by appearences," Susie went on. "Now please open your text books to chapter one."

Susie decided to avoid the 'get to know each other' thing that a lot of classes would do at the beginning of the year. Mainly because she didn't want to be asked any awkward questions. She had long ago decided to forget her last name - out of neccessity she lived off the grid.

Rosalind and Dakota

"All right," Rosalind said, "I'm Rosalind Canterbury, and I'm only 19 years old, so don't you dare call me Miss or Ms. It's Roz or Rosalind. I'm sure you're all wondering why Mr. Giles would appoint a teenager to teach Demonology, and you're probably thinking that I'm not qualified, and you'll be able to get away with murder. Forget about it. What I want you to do right now is to move your desks into a circle, so everybody can see everybody," she instructed. Darcy groaned inwardly but moved her desk anyway.

~*~*~*~

"She seems nice," Dakota whispered to Kendra.

Friday

"Hey Roz," Friday said after moving her desk and chair, not being able to help herself. "Isn't being a slayer all about getting away with murder? Or do we call it something else when you kill a demon?"

She half meant it legitimately, and half meant it to stir things up.

**********

"Yeah," Kendra nodded.

Susie began to teach the class.

Roz

Roz laughed. "You know what I meant, Friday. Anyway, first we're going to play a game. Who knows what I am?"

Lazer

"A little girl," Lazer replied.

She was sitting at the part of the circle at the very back of the room, directly across from Roz. And she was giving her a cynical look.

Roz

"No, Elizabeth, I am not. For one thing, I am an adult. Now, guess again." She pointed to another girl.

"A vampire slayer?" the girl suggested suggested.

"Nope," Roz replied.

"A succubus?" Darcy said, rolling her eyes.

"No, Darcy, and that was uncalled for. Anybody else wager a guess?"

Friday

"Aren't you some kind of half mutant half... something of the magical variety?" Friday asked.

She vaguely remembered Roz from various conversations with Julie.

Roz

Roz tapped her finger to her nose. "Ding ding sing, we have a winner. I'm a selkie, a merperson. I turn into a seal."

Friday

"Inside information," Friday whispered to Armelle.

"Do you have to worry about hunters after your fur?" Lazer asked wryly.
