Millsy stepped through the curtain, waving at the audience as he straightened his white button down shirt, heading to the couch that had been set out for him and Rebekah.
He perched himself down on it, and turned to wait for Rebekah to make her entrance.
Rebekah walked slowly through the curtain, looking rather good for someone who had just had a baby. Her hair was lightly curled, and she wore black pants with a low necked black shirt, a silver ornate necklace sitting around her neck. She smiled and waved at the audience, then sat down next to Millsy.
"And doesn't she look just like a radiant mother should?" Millsy asked the audience, holding Rebekah's hand.
The crowd cheered and Rebekah laughed, then waved again.
"Thank you, Rob."
The new batch of Idol finalists, the top 12, sat in the audience, looking excited and distinctly nervous at the same time.
"Ah, the new top 12," Millsy said, pointing to them in the audience.
"Do you remember what it was like back then, Bek? We were so young, so innocent!"
"Young, yes. But I doubt that you were ever really innocent," Rebekah replied, grinning.
"You guys nervous? The first performance is next week, isn't it?"
"Yeah," Ricki-Lee said.
"We're all shaking heaps bad."
"You guys will be great," Millsy chimed in.
"What's the theme?"
"It's Australian Made," Dan put in.
Rebekah and Millsy looked at each other and nodded.
"I remember that one," Millsy said.
"So do I. But I left on that one," Rebekah replied.
"You guys will be great, so don't be nervous!" Millsy exclaimed.
"And best of luck guys, I know I'll be watching to see how you guys go," Rebekah said.
"Good luck guys. Ok, we've fartarsed around enough. Should we sing? Let's do it..." Millsy trailed off.
An acoustic guitar started to play a soft, slow tune, and Millsy lifted his mike to his lips.
"I love it when the light reflects on your beautiful brown
eyes
But lately when we fight it leaves me so messed up inside
I know your every movement, every step you take
My heart aches..." he sang.
Rebekah leant into Millsy as they both sang.
"And now I can see that you need me
As much as I need you, can't sleep
Because I can see that you need me
As much I need you
I'm not sleeping without you."
"I guess I'm out of touch
Can't keep up with all this love and lust
Can't take this anymore
I guess that you're my only cure
And now I sit here with your letter by my drawer
Now I'm sure..." Rebekah sang.
They sang the chorus again together, then Rebekah ducked offstage while Millsy did his solo song.
"I like to party, I like to cruise
I only like it when I'm feelin' kinda bruised
My mind is dirty when I'm in love
No doubt about it girl, I love it when I'm used
Wanna taste the sugar, flick a title for our song
Get you in the mood put another record on, yeah
You got me where you want me, I confess
Lock me up and take me, I'm a mess
Don't need to make a move, gonna tear your dress
Right off of you, throw me out when we're through
Just wanna get down, I confess
They're takin' pictures of me, but you
Don't find it funny when I'm flirtin' on the news
I might be out late, forget the law
But you're the one that I really like to call
Cover you with honey, send your troubles to the moon
Take a little ride, anything we wanna do, yeah
You got me where you want me, I confess
Lock me up and take me, I'm a mess
Play with me and kiss me, I'll confess
Right into you, throw me out when we're through
Just wanna get down, I confess
Thinkin' of a time, dirty women and wine
Hot as mustard, do you think I can be trusted
I'm tryin' to get on track, been to Paris and back
Got the presses on a roll, I'm gettin' busted
Ohhh yeah... feel so good, think I should
Ohhh yeah... you're so cool, wanna fool around
You got me where you want me, I confess
Lock me up and take me, I'm a mess
If you don't know how to touch me, take a guess
I'm hot for you, throw me out when we're through
You got me where you want me
Lock me up and take me
I'm a mess
I confess..." Millsy finished, grinning cheekily, finishing his
little dance he'd been doing, while singing.
"That's it from me, and now for Rebekah!"
He saluted and headed offstage, pausing to pat Rebekah's arm as she went to the front of the stage. She picked up her guitar and perched on her stool.
"It's over and done but the heartache lives on inside
And who's the one you're clinging to instead of me tonight?
And where are you now, now that I need you?
Tears on my pillow wherever you go
I'll cry me a river that leads to your ocean
You never see me fall apart
In the words of a broken heart
It's just emotion that's taken me over
Tied up in sorrow, lost in my soul
But if you don't come back
Come home to me, darling
You know that there'll be nobody left in this world to hold me
tight
Nobody left in this world to kiss goodnight
Goodnight
Goodnight
I'm there at your side, I'm part of all the things you are
But you've got a part of someone else
You've got to find your shining star
And where are you now, now that I need you?
Tears on my pillow wherever you go
I'll cry me a river that leads to your ocean
You never see me fall apart
In the words of a broken heart
It's just emotion that's taken me over
Tied up in sorrow, lost in my soul
But if you don't come back
Come home to me, darling
You know that there'll be nobody left in this world to hold me
tight
Nobody left in this world to kiss goodnight
Goodnight
And where are you now, now that I need you?
Tears on my pillow wherever you go
I'll cry me a river that leads to your ocean
You never see me fall apart
In the words of a broken heart
It's just emotion that's taken me over
Tied up in sorrow, lost in my soul
But if you don't come back
Come home to me, darling
You know that there'll be nobody left in this world to hold me
tight
Nobody left in this world to kiss goodnight
Goodnight
In the words of a broken heart
It's just emotion that's taken me over
Tied up in sorrow, lost in my soul
But if you don't come back
Come home to me, darling
You know that there'll be nobody left in this world to hold me
tight
Nobody left in this world to kiss goodnight
Goodnight..." Rebekah sang.
"Thanks guys!"
She waed once more and then retrated backstage, where she and Millsy headed to the tables out in the club for autograph signings.
~*~*~*~
Oliver James had decided to check out the headlining act, Robert Mills and Rebekah LaVauney in a little club in Sydney, and when he got there, he was pleasantly surprised by the talent that had been unearthed during the search for the 'Australian Idol'. He had been skeptical that any sort of talent could be found on these shows, but he could admit that he may have been wrong in these thoughts, after hearing the two ex Idols perform.
So, grabbing a copy of both of their new singles, he lined up to have them signed.
Typically Millsy, noting Oliver wasn't female (a clever observation), signed the single with a minimum of small talk, so Oliver moved on to get Rebekah's CD signed.
"You were really good," Oliver said.
Rebekah looked up and smiled.
"Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it," she said, taking the CD from him and picking up her pen.
"Who do I make this out to?"
"Oh, I'm Oliver," he replied.
"I'm Rebekah. Obviously, I guess. Unless you thought I was Rob."
Oliver chuckled.
"I worked out who was who."
Rebekah nodded and signed the CD with a flourish, but not before thinking that Oliver bore an uncanny resemblance to Ian. It was almost disconcerting, but she pushed the thoughts away.
"You play a Gibson?" he asked.
"Yeah, but I'm looking into a Fender. You're a musician then?" Rebekah answered.
"And actor. Mostly musician. I play drums and sing. And some guitar and piano, although I would like to get better at either, really," Oliver said.
"Yeah? I play some piano, but it's not my strongest instrument. I teach guitar though. Or at least I did, before Idol. You're from England?" Rebekah asked.
"Originally. But I just moved to New York. I'd love guitar lessons, but it's hard to find a good teacher," he replied.
"I live in New York now. But since I started out in Australian Idol, I'm pretty much known here, so I come back for gigs and stuff."
Oliver nodded.
"Makes sense. I've just finished filming, and taking a break before I go attempt either more acting or more music. I haven't really decided."
"I'd love to get into acting," Rebekah commented.
"Well," Oliver began, pulling out a business card from his pocket.
"This is my agent's card. He's based in New York, so you should give him a call if you're interested."
"Thanks," Rebekah said, grabbing a pen and a scrap bit of paper.
"Here's my number if you're desperate for a guitar teacher, give me a buzz and I'll see what I can do."
"Thanks," Oliver replied, taking the paper.
"And thanks for the CD."
"No problem."
Oliver saluted and left, leaving Rebekah to sign more merchandise from the fans.
