Breaking the news

Written by Nessa and Michelle

Bobby

With Friday occupied, doing something, Bobby sought out Julie.

It was time to tell her everything. He'd been at the mansion for over a week, and Hank had told Julie that he'd been getting help with schoolwork and he'd been feeling a little under the weather.

Which wasn't a lie. Hank had put off telling Bobby what was wrong with him until two days ago. The news had hit him like a tonne of bricks. He was dying.

"J? You busy?" Bobby asked, leaning against the doorframe of Julie's study.

He'd showered and changed, and had a shave. He still looked sick, but not as bad as before.

Julie

Julie looked over.

"Yes and no... I'm working on my site - as always," and she gave a wry grin, "but I could do with a break. Have a seat."

She saved what she was doing.

Bobby

Bobby walked over to the seat and slowly sat himself down, a few of his joints cracking as he did.

"I need to drink more milk."

He reached out and ran a hand through Julie's hair.

"I have some... bad news, I guess. Well, not really, I guess. It's kinda I know. I should stop babbling."

Julie

"Umm, okay... so you have news that's bad, but sorta isn't..." Julie repeated. "So, maybe you should tell me what the news is, exactly."

She looked at him in concern.

Bobby

"Well..."

Bobby bit his lip and fidgeted with his hands.

"You know how I've been staying at the mansion lately? Well... I've been sick, and Hank's been trying to work out what's wrong. And... he has."

Bobby looked right in Julie's eyes and tried to smile, weakly.

"I have Legacy."

Julie

Julie blinked.

"Wha-what? Le-legacy?" she repeated. "No! No, that's not... you'd kidding right? This is just some stupid prank that you and the guys thought would be funny?"

Bobby

Bobby shook his head.

"I wish it were. Julie..."

Julie

"Oh my gosh," Julie said.

She leant back in her chair and put her hands to her head.

"What does... how... when..."

She shook her head, trying to get her thoughts straight.

Bobby

"It's ok, you can't get it."

Bobby scooted his chair closer and rubbed her knee soothingly.

"Hank's the best. He's so far in his research. We'll be ok."

Julie

"But I mean... how... what's the risk, exactly?" Julie asked. "How long..."

No, she was not going to think about him dying. Nope the thought didn't even cross her mind.

Really.

Bobby

"Hey..."

Bobby moved over and wrapped his arms around Julie.

"I'm going to be fine. There's no risk. Hank's working on it, and you know what he's like. I'll probably be ok in a few days at the rate he's going."

He wished he could be so sure...

Julie

Julie chewed her lip and nodded slowly.

"Yeah... and you two seem to have become pretty good friends, so I'm sure he'll work doubly hard."

Then a small smile started to cross her face.

"Unless, of course, he's been humouring you all this time, and really can't stand you and plans on using the opportunity to get rid of you all together," she teased, and then laughed evilly.

Bobby

Bobby gave a weak smile.

"So how's the programming coming along?"

Julie

"Oh good," Julie replied. "Look, I have an exploding computer for the support page."

She giggled and pointed it out. The computer exploded, the monitor blew up into the air and came crashing down.

Bobby

"Neat."

Bobby rubbed his eyes again.

"So, everything is up and running?"

Julie

"Oh, yeah," Julie nodded. "I just can't help myself - I just have to tweek with it a bit."

The grin then faded from her face.

"You look tired."

Bobby

"I'll be fine. I'm a trooper."

Bobby gave a backwards salute.

Julie

Julie had to smile.

"Okay," she said agreeably. "Tell Hank to hurry up for me. I don't want you to be sick."

Bobby

"I don't like being sick either. It makes me all pale and pasty, and I can't go to college and the girls can't keep perving on me."

Bobby nodded solemnly.

"It's a downward spiral of events."

Julie

Julie shook her head in disgust.

"Well, that comepletely sucks," she said sympathetically. "I mean, what is the point of being completely, totally and nothing but hot, if you're sick and can't show off your sheer abundance of hotness?"

Bobby

"I know!"

Bobby pouted.

"Every morning, I'd go into the coffee shop and get a bagel with a free coffee, because the girl who served me has a crush on me. Heh. And I exploit that to get free food."

Julie

"Ahh I see," Julie nodded gravely. "Free food is good. But you probably wouldn't attract this girl right now, would you? Which means you would have to pay for said food. Which sucks because that means that money has to leave your possession."

Bobby

Bobby nodded.

"And the exchange of money for food is something that I am no longer familiar with."

Julie

"Well, that does put you in rather a spot. My, this Legacy virus is a terrible inconveinence for you isn't it? Now you have to relearn lost skills," Julie teased.
