Welcome

Christian & Guffery

Christian rubbed his stomach absently as he lay back on the bed in the room. He'd neither seen nor heard anything from anyone since he'd woken in the room he'd guessed about 24 hours earlier now.

With a sigh, he closed his eyes. He might as well catch a few more hours sleep and then just stay awake until something happened. They had to at least feed him soon, right? He had noticed a hole in his arm from an IV line he must have had when they'd knocked him out after his isolation time, but that hadn't stopped his stomach growling for very long.

His ears twitched suddenly, and his eyes shot open. Faintly, very faintly, he could hear footsteps in the distance. Considering that the head of the bed was against the back wall of the room, he guessed they were almost at his door.

He sat up slightly, before hearing a sort of buzzing sound from somewhere around the room. It was a matter of seconds before he realised it was coming from the red strip running around the room, but almost immediately as he did his wrists were thrust with a strong magnetic force toward it and the cuffs on them locked in place to it.

"So that's what that's for," he murmured, raising his eyebrows.

"Quite enterprising, isn't it?" came Guffery's voice from the doorway.

Christian's eyes shot across, but he remained silent. He shifted slightly to get in a more comfortable position on his knees, as his right hand was in front of him (connected to the wall at his right) and his left in front of that making it awkward.

"As you may have guessed, this is your room," Guffery stated the somewhat obvious as he gazed around the room a little, spinning a set of keys on his fingers before placing them in his pocket.

"And it most likely will be for the duration of your time here."

"And how long will that be?" Christian finally spoke, including a subtle glare with his words.

"I'm not sure yet," Guffery replied, kicking the door shut before going to sit on one of the chairs.

Christian's eyes never left him, wondering what exactly it was that he wanted.

"How long ago?" Christian asked softly.

"A few years. We were surprised he was still alive at that stage, he always seemed so weak..."

Silence filled the room for a moment as neither of them spoke.

"You seem to have made quite a name for yourself," Guffery began as Christian almost groaned.

"You were lucky to be found by Craig Morrison. Of course he hadn't fully established himself at that point, and I think you, as a son, helped him gain that recognition."

"He could have done it without me," Christian insisted, not looking up.

"He very well may have, but I am sure you're being modest. You know... as soon as word got around that Craig had a child almost everyone looked into aquiring you as their own..."

"I know this," Christian sighed.

"...But who could resist the next 'Spider'?" Guffery grinned, "of course you could only learn so much from the man. I hear you spent some time with Racer recently..."

"He can rot in hell too," Christian glared down at the bed.

"Of course," Guffery's eyebrows rose, "you know he tricked you, don't you? Concerning your mother?"

"Yes, I know."

"Amazing things telepaths can do. Of course you may not have known, but she was killed along with your father. I did hear of your quest to find your father's murderer... of course there weren't many who didn't."

"You know who it was."

"Of course, I ordered it," Guffery shrugged, "it was a lot easier that way. But you don't have to worry about him now - I killed him myself. When you gained such a large reputation I think it got a little much for him to handle. He liked to brag a lot."

"I doubt that the only reason you brought me here was to talk," Christian said suddenly, leaning his head against the wall again and looking across at the table where Guffery sat.

Guffery hesitated.

"You do know the main reason, if I'm not mistaken."

"Personal satisfaction."

"Correct."

"What are you going to do to me? I don't doubt I'm supposed to be punished in some way," Christian almost chuckled but held back.

"Do you consider being here punishment enough?"

Christian hesitated again, caught off guard. He looked across at Guffery's face as if to try and see if he was serious or not.

"Of course some form of punishment is in due order, but that can be decided at a later date," he said as he began to stand from the chair.

"Your food for the day shall be brought in soon. You will be fed twice a day. This room has all the accessories you shall need for now. I will more than likely see you tomorrow. Goodnight."

He headed for the door as Christian began to hear the buzzing noise again.

"That's it?" he frowned, looking up at him.

"For today, yes. We have a lot of time ahead of us. If you're lucky, you might get to see the others next week."

The door opened and he stepped through, closing it behind him. As soon as the door was shut, Christian felt his wrists being released slowly.

When the magnetic field was weak enough, he pulled his hands away and rubbed his wrists. Groaning to himself, he collapsed back onto his bed to think over the conversation he'd just had.

And the closure to many years of wondering what had happened to the others...
