Summer School

Written by Joy

Orlando

Orlando loved Julliard. Ophelia had decided not to return, opting instead to go to Xavier's, and finish a year or two ahead, but taking excellerated courses. But Orlando LOVED his music. His sister did as well, but she was a little annoyed that she knew more than most of her teachers did about classical music. Orlando loved the school so much, he was even taking summer courses. He had already taken his GED, and passed with flying colours, and was completely in his element at music school. Or course, having both his boyfriend and his girlfriend in close vicinity was a major perk as well.

Orlando lifted his flute to his lips, the tune just flowing through him, as he composed without even thinking.

"That's beautiful," one of his professors said. "It's a piece I've not heard before. Is it Chopin?"

"No, I just made it up now."

"Really? You should really write that down. You know, Mr. Canterbury, you've shown great promise this year, and I think you could be an excellent composer. You and your sister are quite possibly the two most gifted students I have ever taught. ANd where is she this summer?"

"Ophelia decided that as much as she loved going to school here, she wants to finish high school first. She's only freshly 16, and she just wants to experience life before deciding what she wants to do with it."

"I understand that. You know, the two of you have an understanding of melody and harmony that's almost. . .otherworldly." Olando smiled. If only Professor Stephenson knew how 'otherworldly' their musical roots were. . . . he grinned inwardly at the thought. People were grudgingly beginning to accept mutants and aliens as part of their reality, but he knew that the world was not yet ready to acknowledge that magic, and 'magical creatures' were amongst them.

"I thank you for the complement, sir. I love your class. Classical music is definitely my favourite. There's just something about it, it's another language. My sisters don't appreciate it the way I do. They prefer Celtic music, and rock and roll."

"You have another sister?"

"Yes, Rosalind. She has a good singing voice, but she's hopeless when it comes to reading music or playing instruments. Not like Feelie."

"So, Orlando, Rosalind, and Ophelia. Are your parents big fans of Shakespeare by any chance?"

"Our dad is. Most people don't even notice the trend." Professor Stephenson smiled.

"Well, I'll let you get back to your music. And don't be late for class this time."

"Yes sir."
