Faith, Anya, Xander and Gunn
Faith sat down across from Anya and Xander, Gunn by her side. He looked tired.
"So that's that. I've quit. Which means the Council now no longer has a reason to try and rehabilitate me," Faith said.
"But you should think this over," Xander protested.
"Yes, you're a stronger fighter than our girls. We need you to protect me from dying," Anya cut in.
"I'm not going to stop fighting," Faith said.
"I'm just not going to do it under the Council's terms."
"I've gone through the Council's records and histories, and there's no rule why Faith can't quit," Gunn said.
"What about moral obligations?" Xander pressed.
"You can't quit Faith. It's not what Angel would've - "
Faith narrowed her eyes.
"You don't know what Angel wanted, so don't try and use him as leverage. I tried to fight, ok, but I was too late and he died. And I don't want this as my responsibility. The Council can find another girl to make their slave, because me, I'm over it."
"What about their case? They want to look into when you killed the Mayor's assistant, and then went evil and worked for the Mayor, and helped his Ascension," Anya said, rather untactfully.
"Faith never signed any contract to be a Slayer. It chose her. But as there is no legally binding document, she's free to leave," Gunn replied.
"And so I am. Now, in fact."
Faith hopped up and waved.
"See ya around. No wait... I won't."
She looked at Gunn, who nodded and stood up, before they left the cafe, leaving a stunned Xander and an annoyed Anya, still sitting at the table.
