19 May 2004 - Heartbreak

Written by Tegan and Nessa

Octavian

Octavian hummed under his breath as he walked to Bobby's room. Hank had finally given him the all clear, and he wanted some Bobby touching. And kissing. And all that good stuff which was illegal in some parts of the world.

He opened Bobby's door slowly, hearing Bobby's TV blaring, with some cartoon on.

"Hello, BObby."

Bobby

Bobby was watching Archie and Jughead when his door opened.

"Hey Tav."

He yawned, stretching his arms out.

"Hank and I had a bit of a twinkie bender."

Octavian

Octavian chuckled, closing the door behind him.

"I wondered at the large overflowing mound of twinkies in the lab this morning."

He joined Bobby on the bed.

Bobby

"Ugh, don't remind me. I don't think I want to see another twinkie, I feel so sick."

Bobby held his hands over his stomach.

"Hank says I have to take some when I move, but if I look at another twinkie, I'm going to vomit."

As if on cue, an ad for twinkies came on the TV and Bobby screamed.

"No, don't taunt me!"

Octavian

Octavian laughed, curling up against Bobby and putting a hand on his chest.

"Then I suppose you aren't up to other pleasurable pursuits either. Pity. Hank finally said I could."

Bobby

Bobby sat up.

"Tav, I think... we need to talk about that."

Octavian

Octavian froze for a moment, stomach feeling like it had the bottom dropped out of it.

"Why?"

Bobby

"I don't think we should... do that anymore. Tav, it's not fair on you, because I can't offer you anything else, and I hate feeling like I'm using you."

Bobby sighed.

"I'm sorry."

Octavian

Octavian stared at him for a moment, face white.

"I never asked you for anything else. I never wanted you to know how I felt. Please, Bobby, don't do this to me."

Bobby

"But now I know, and Tav, it's not fair on you. Because you deserve more than I can give you."

Bobby touched Tav's cheek gently.

"I'm sorry but I can't hurt you by leading you on that way."

Octavian

Octavian felt his eyes burn with tears.

"So, this is better then? I fail to see how it is."

Don't send me away, please, oh god, please.

Bobby

"Because you can move on," Bobby replied, wiping his tears away with his thumb.

"I can't ever be more than a friend, and I can't keep leading you on. It's not fair to you, or me, or Julie."

Octavian

"Julie doesn't care about what we two do together," Octavian said dully.

"She never has."

He restrained himself but barely from crying violently like a child and flinging himself on Bobby to try and change his mind.

"BObby, please..."

Bobby

"She's... she might be moving out with me."

Bobby looked at his feet.

"I'm sorry."

Octavian

"No, I understand perfectly."

Octavian got off the bed, movements jerky as he tried to control his emotions.

"After all...why would you want me around when you could have her? Excuse me."

He fled out the door, breathing heavily and wiping a hand across his eyes.

Bobby

"Tav!"

Bobby jumped off his bed and watched Octavian run down the hallway.

"Oh God..."

He shut his TV off, closed his door and went down to cry on Hank's shoulder.

Octavian & Hank

Octavian went to Rebekah's room and knocked on her door.

"Bek, I need to talk to you!"

He sniffed, trying to hold his tears in and failing miserably.

Hank got up from his computer chair when he heard Bobby enter, worried frown on his face.

"Bobby, what is the matter?"

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah opened the door and hugged Octavian, no questions asked.

"Come in."

Bobby fell onto Hank, crying heavily.

"I just told Octavian... and he's..."

Octavian & Bobby

"Does love always hurt this much?" Octavian asked tearfully as he entered.

"Bek, I want you to take it away. I can't deal with this. Bobby just told me he didn't want me. That it wasn't fair to me...that this way I could move on."

Hank patted Bobby's back gently.

"Calm down, my friend..."

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah ran her hand through Octavian's hair.

"Are you sure?"

Bobby sniffed and hiccupped.

Octavian & Hank

Octavian nodded miserably.

"Please. He's moving out of the mansion with Julie. I was going to accept my offer to NYU, but I'll go to Harvard now. I just want it to stop hurting, Bek."

Hank rubbed Bobby's back soothingly as he sat them down on the floor. He grabbed a tissue and handed it to Bobby.

"Now, tell me."

Rebekah and Bobby

"Octavian, I can take them away, but I can't promise they won't come back, is that a risk you want to take?" Rebekah asked softly, wiping his tears away gently.

Bobby blew his nose.

"I told Octavian that I can't keep sleeping with him... and he freaked out."

Octavian & Hank

"Take it, please," Octavian said.

"I'll be leaving after graduation...I won't fall in love quickly. I have never been in love with anyone else. ANd I do not think I want to, for all it brings is sorrow for me."

"Ah."

Hank rubbed BObby's back gently.

"The way that he reacted is not your fault."

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah nodded and took his hand.

She closed her eyes and focused, siphoning his feelings away.

Bobby nodded.

"Maybe."

Octavian & Hank

Octavian wiped his eyes.

"Thank you, Bek. I feel much better."

Hank sighed.

"Octavian is a very troubled young man, with many issues to deal with. His...instability is not your fault. The professor believes he uses sexual activity to ensure his own emotional and physical safety. It is not your fault that he reacted so violently to your cessation of sexual relations between the two of you."

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah kissed his forehead.

"Glad to have helped. Now, feel like joining me for lunch? I have no idea where Jono is."

Bobby hugged Hank again.

"Ok."

Octavian & Hank

"Sounds smashing, darling."

Octavian smiled, the same devil may care grin he'd somehow lost when he fell in love with Bobby.

"It is not your fault."

Hank held Bobby gently, stroking his back, before giving him another tissue to wipe the tears from his cheeks.

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah hopped up from her bed and grabbed her jacket.

"So, Harvard... higher education, is totally not suited for me. I don't know if you know... but... hmm, I'm pregnant."

Bobby wiped his cheeks.

"Hey Hanky... how are you managing to function? I'm still feeling sick from the twinkies."

Octavian & Hank

"Congratulations, I didn;t know."

Octavian smiled at her as he opened the door.

"And yes, Harvard. A clean break."

"I have a fast metabolism," Hank said.

"Do you need something to help settle your stomach?"

Rebekah and Bobby

They walked to the caf together.

"Merci. And BMG has bought me an apartment in the city, so it looks like I'll be moving out, and if Jono decides to come with me... that would be rather nice."

Bobby nodded pathetically.

"Please, Hanky."

Octavian & Hank

Octavian nodded.

"A happy little musical family. As long as you don't turn into the Patridges."

He grabbed a tray for her and handed it to her with a small bow, before taking one for himself.

Hank got up, standing Bobby on his feet before going to get something for Bobby's upset stomach.

"Jocelyn will be arriving at the mansion in about two weeks."

Rebekah and Bobby

"We won't become the Partridges, I promise you."

Rebekah served herself some lunch and headed for a table, grabbing a drink on the way.

"If we do, I give you permission to slap me out of it."

Bobby gratefully accepted medicine.

"Cool."

Octavian & Hank

"OOoh, Bek's a little bit of a masochist."

Octavian lifted an eyebrow at her as he got his lunch and a drink, then followed her.

"Kinky."

Hank smiled faintly.

"It will all work out, Bobby."

Rebekah and Bobby

"Remember, I can take other things away from you too," Rebekah said, sticking her tongue out at him.

Bobby nodded.

"Hope so. And if not, Mexico's nice."

Octavian & Hank

"Do you want me to leave?" Octavian laughed.

"Besides, Bek...you know I don't mean it."

He pouted at her sexily.

"Mexico is not. If you're going to leave the country, I suggest Canada. Less cockroaches, lower crimerate," Hank advised.

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah laughed and slapped his shoulder gently.

"Oh you're lucky I like you. I put up with a lot from you, you know that?"

Bobby grinned.

"And it's snowy! Perfect!"

Octavian & Hank

Octavian picked up her hand and pressed a gentle kiss to her knuckles.

"Ah, but I'm so cute and likeable."

Hank chuckled.

"Feeling better?"

Rebekah and Bobby

"Pushing it, really pushing it," Rebekah said.

She sipped at her drink.

"Cute, I'll give you. Likeable my ass."

Bobby nodded.

"Thanks Hank."

Octavian & Hank

Ovtavian sighed, stretching back in his chair, before eating some of his lunch.

"Well, I think I'm going to go find someone to sleep with later. Because I'm off the no no sex bad list now."

He grinned at her.

"But I'm not asking you, I like my life."

"You are quite welcome, BObby. You are my friend, and I want to help if I can."

Hank smiled, baring his fangs in an amiable grin.

Rebekah and Bobby

"Good to hear. And anyway, even if you asked, I'd say non," Rebekah replied.

"You're a good man, Hanky," Bobby replied, punching his shoulder playfully.

"And for being a good man, you may keep all these twinkies."

Octavian & Hank

"But you love me," Octavian said, batting his eyelashes at her.

"In my cuteness."

Hank chuckled.

"You, dear Bobby, are a twit."

Rebekah and Bobby

"I retract it!" Rebekah protested, pushing him back.

"Retracting the sentiment!"

Bobby laughed.

"If I eat another Twinkie, I think I'll pass out!"

Octavian

Octavian smiled and ate more of his lunch.

"It is a good thing I know some teleporters or the Displaced would have to break up."

"We could not have that happening, oh my stars and garters, no," Hank said, smiling.

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah nodded and ate some lunch.

"Hmm true. I think my tour is going ahead again, seeing as hands are now able to work. Sorta."

Bobby chuckled.

"It would be tragic."

Octavian & Hank

"That is good to hear," Octavian said seriously.

"Can we not kill your father for you? I would love to."

"I would not be able to hear your witty repartee, if you were unconscious," Hank said.

Rebekah and Bobby

"Only if we may kill yours," Rebekah said softly, touching his cheek.

"Besides, my hands are ok, and we're not even sure it was him."

Bobby nodded.

"Ah, this is true, Dr McCoy!"

Octavian & Hank

"Despite everything, he is my father," Octavian said softly.

"And I am sure it was your father. Or at least your parents. No one else hates you enough."

Hank laughed.

"So, how have your powers been progressing?"

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah shrugged.

"But at the end of the day, I too am in your boat. He is still my father, no matter how much we both wish it weren't so."

Bobby jumped up, excited.

"Check it out!"

His form turned completely icy.

Octavian & Hank

"Ah, dysfunctional families," Octavian sighed.

"What would we be without them?"

"Oh my!"

Hank beamed.

"That is incredible, Bobby!"

Rebekah and Bobby

"Normal and oh so boring," Rebekah said, smiling.

"Ah, there's hope for us yet, Octavian."

Bobby returned to normal and grinned.

"I've been practising like you suggested."

Octavian & Hank

"Indeed. Hope for the damned and lost."

Octavan sipped from his drink.

"I can see. I'm very proud, Bobby," Hank said.

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah smiled.

"I hope I shall see you at my first concert, Monsieur Edgerton- Smythe?"

Bobby blushed slightly.

"Thanks."

Octavian & Hank

"But of course!" Octavian exclaimed.

"I wouldn;t miss it for the world."

Hank patted Bobby's shoulder.

"It is quite exciting to see you master your powers like this."

Rebekah and Bobby

"Good," Rebekah said, finishing her lunch.

"Because I'd be most hurt if you were not there."

Bobby hugged Hank.

"Well, not mastered completely. I can't stay icy for very long."

Octavian & Hank

"See, you do care for me," Octavian teased.

He finished his drink.

"But it is a step forward," Hank said.

Rebekah and Bobby

"Maybeeee."

Rebekah cracked her fingers again.

"Well, feel like coming to harrass Jono with me?"

Bobby nodded.

"Guess it is!"

Octavian & Hank

"No, I feel like having sex," Octavian said as he got up.

"So, I'm going to go find someone else who will share this feeling with me."

Hank chuckled.

"In time, you will be able to control it more."

Rebekah and Bobby

"Have fun," Rebekah said, getting up and going to see Jono.

Bobby grinned.

"And then I can trick you into thinking I'm an ice statue, and I will hear what you say about me."

Hank

"Ah, indeed."

Hank looked faintly worried.

"I do hope you will use your powers in a responsible manner."

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah went up to Jono's room and knocked softly on the door.

Bobby laughed.

"I wouldn't spy on you and Jocelyn."

Jonothon & Hank

Jonothon clicked through a website, researching for an assignment the professor had set on a novel.

"Come in."

"I doubt that anything we would be doing, you would consider interesting. Collating data, analying cultures...what you call science geek stuff."

Hank polished his glasses.

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah walked into the room and perched herself on his bed.

"Hey, homework?"

Bobby shrugged.

"Hot sex, you know, the usual."

Jonothon & Hank

"Yeah, English Lit."

Jonothon typed some more of his essay.

"We're doing the Isle of Dr Moreau. The guy with all the experiments?"

"Bobby..." Hank sighed.

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah nodded and cracked her fingers again.

"Dicko called. BMG have bought me an apartment, so I'll be moving out. And my tour is starting next month."

Bobby chuckled.

"Sorry, Hank."

Jonothon & Hank

Jonothon nodded, fingers flying over his keyboard.

"Cool. We moving out when I graduate?"

Hank sighed, then got up.

"Come and see what the professor has asked me to build."

Rebekah and Bobby

"Oui. I am going to start moving stuff over zere zis week, and buying some new furniture."

Rebekah leant over and kissed his cheek.

"Baby stuff and ze like."

Bobby got up and follwed him.

"What for?"

Jonothon & Hank

Jonothon smiled a dopey grin.

"Yeah..."

Hank ushered Bobby into a room, covered with machine parts and welding tools, and things.

"Another reason I needed an assistant with the Legacy research, is that the professor has asked me to modify Cerebro. To ensure that what happened...with Stryker never happens again."

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah smiled at him.

"And I'll be going in to paint and stuff too," she continued.

"Hmmm, I do a lot."

Bobby nodded.

"Good plan. Well thought out, Professor."

Jonothon & Hank

"I'll help. You know I will," Jonothon said.

"And everyone here will as well."

"Indeed. It will be better, faster, stronger as well," Hank said.

"The security measures will be better. It is quite hard work, requiring vast amounts of concentration."

Rebekah and Bobby

"I know you will," Rebekah said, kissing him properly.

"Moving out... seems so... adult."

Bobby nodded.

"I don't fancy being woken up that way again."

Jonothon & Hank

"God, what's happening to me?" Jonothon said.

"Gah, adulthood here I bleeding well come. Only fer yer, luv."

"I was away at a conference when that occured," Hank admitted.

"But it ended well. Eventually."

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah laughed.

"Happens. Anyway, I'm going to head into the city and check out the place, do you want to come? Or shall I ask Le-boy?"

Bobby shrugged.

"Guess. I mean, we lost John, which was... I mean, in some ways, it's cool, coz I'm not sharing a room, and I'm not having to put his sheets out."

He chuckled.

"When he had a sex dream, he'd light his sheets on fire. I'd have to put them out for him. It happened so often he didn't even wake up."

He sobered slightly.

"But I miss him."

Jonothon & Hank

"Have to finish this by tomorrow, and it's giving me the gyp," Jonothon said, waving a hand at the screen.

"I hate this Vernes guy."

Hank clicked his tongue and patted Bobby's shoulder gently.

"One would suppose it would. Losing a friend...even if you know he's still alive...perhaps you should talk to the professor. I know he was close friends with Magneto before...everything. He would understand, perhaps."

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah nodded.

"Ok, I'll go ask Levi. Get in some quality Levi Bek time."

She got up and kissed him gently.

"I'll be back later."

Bobby shook his head.

"Xavier has important things to do rather than listen to me."

Jonothon & Hank

"Alrighty, luv. Kiss and run."

Jonothon kissed her back gently.

"He would not mind, honestly, Bobby," Hank said.

"He's not some type of ogre."

Rebekah and Bobby

"I'll come up tonight, if you want."

Rebekah touched his face softly, then left.

Bobby looked at Hank and shrugged.

"I know, but I just... I feel better talking to you about this stuff."

Jonothon & Hank

"I'll be boring doing schoolwork," Jonothon warned her.

"Better bring a book to read, or something."

Hank smiled faintly.

"I feel honoured, BObby."

They walked back out to the medlab and Hank carefully locked the door behind them.

Bobby

Bobby smiled back.

"Ok, well, I should go do Storm's essay, but wanna get some pizza later?"

Hank

"Sounds like an admirable plan, Bobby," Hank said cheerfully.

"And what is the illustrious Ms Monroe's essay on?"

Bobby

"Persian Wars. So I have a hot date with Herodotus."

Bobby grinned and saluted.

"Catch ya later, Hanky."

Hank

"Fare thee well, dear comrade," Hank said.

"To arms. Ah, Herodtus...sadly lacking in scientific application to his research, yet one of the fathers of history as we know it."

Bobby

Bobby chuckled.

"I would've gone with biased some of a bitch, but hey, same thing really. Catch ya."

And with that, he was gone.
