26 April 2004 - Broken bones

Written by Nessa and Tegan

Rebekah

Rebekah hummed to herself as she tuned her guitar, waiting for Jono to get back from getting her shoes from the car.

"Rebekah," said an unfamiliar voice.

She looked up and jumped slightly, seeing a tall man with cruel blue eyes and a slight smirk on his face, standing in front of her.

"How did you..."

The man barked out a laugh, and pushed her guitar to the floor, the neck snapping slightly as it hit the ground.

He grabbed Rebekah's hand and squeezed it tightly, grinding the bones together, before bending it back at the wrist.

She let out a scream of pain as he crushed her fingers of both hands, then twisted her wrists into unnatural positions. He let go and pushed her back against the bed, before porting out.

Rebekah's eyes fluttered slightly, and she moaned in pain.

Jonothon

"BEK!"

Jonothon ran up the stairs to the hotel room, broadcasting madly.

"Someone call an ambulance!"

Rebekah

Rebekah felt her cheeks getting wet from her tears.

God, her hands...

JOnothon

God, he hadn't been there, he hadn't *been* there!

He snapped out a thought at Millsy, holding on and burning into the man's mind.

"Call a sodding ambulance for Bek NOW."

Rebekah and Millsy

Rebekah closed her eyes, breathing in pained breaths.

God, her hands, she couldn't...

Millsy snapped into action and went to get an ambulance.

Jonothon

JOnothon opened the door hurriedly.

"Bek! Wot 'appenned?"

Rebekah

"I don't..."

Rebekah drew in a pained breath.

"I don't know... my hands... I can't..."

Jonothon

"Oh god..."

JOnothon shook off his paralyzing shock and rushed to her side.

"I sent Millsy to get an ambulance. It should be here soon."

Rebekah

"My hands..." Rebekah whispered, closing her eyes so as she wouldn't keep staring at the mangled mess her fingers had become.

Jonothon

"Shhhhh, shhh..."

Jonothon kissed her cheek softly, a hand on her shoulder massaging lightly.

Millsy and Rebekah

Millsy came back a few minutes later with the medics, and they helped Rebekah down to the ambulance.

She stared at her hands, wincing anytime they were touched.

Jonothon

Jonothon followed her down to the ambulance, and then got into the ambulance with her.

"I'll get Levi or someone to call McCoy," he told Bek.

Rebekah

Rebekah nodded wordlessly.

Oh God, she couldn't play...

Jonothon

"We'll fix this..."

Jonothon ran his hands through his hair.

"God, I'm so sorry, I should have been there..."

Rebekah

"It's not your fault," Rebekah said, her voice catching in her throat.

"You didn't know..."

Jonothon

"DAMMIT, I SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE!"

Jonothon's hands clenched into fists, the sick bitter rage at himself building up inside him. He'd failed her, again.

Rebekah

Rebekah flinched, her head pounding with the sudden surge of his emotions, and she shrank back.

Jonothon

Jonothon brought himself under control with an effort.

"Sorry, I'm sorry..."

Rebekah

"It's ok."

They pulled up at the hospital, and Rebekah was taken inside for X-Rays and such.

Jonothon

Jonothon waited anxiously in the waiting room, needing a cigarette so badly he could almost taste it. He needed something to do with his hands, with himself.

He couldn't smoke, so he paced.

Rebekah

Rebekah came out of the room, looking pale and shaken, her hands bandaged and splinted together.

JOnothon

"Wot did the doctors say?" Jonothon asked, turning on his heel to hurry over to her.

He cupped her face in his hand, brown eyes searching hers desperately.

Rebekah

"They're broken. And it'll take over a month to heal."

Rebekah closed her eyes.

JOnothon

"I bet Hank can make it less," JOnothon said.

He hesitated for a moment.

"And after that?"

Rebekah

"There's a small chance of me being able to play again, but it's slim. And even if that happens, it'll be a long way to learn it all again."

Rebekah looked at her feet, a tear falling from her eye.

Jonothon

JOnothon moved behind her so he could put his arms around her and rest his head on her shoulder.

"We'll be back here inless then a year, and you'll be playing again."

Rebekah

Rebekah turned and kissed his cheek gently.

"I guess..."

Jonothon

"You will."

Jonothon nuzzled her neck.

"You're strong. You'll beat this."

Rebekah

Rebekah nodded, and looked up for a moment.

"Can we just go home?"

Jonothon

"Call Jules."

Jonothon kissed her cheek.

"You'll have to, I can't. Actually, where's Millsy?"

Millsy, Levi and Rebekah

Millsy appeared with Levi and Jules, and nodded at Rebekah.

"I called Dicko, and it's all ok, don't worry about anything," he said, kissing her cheek.

Rebekah nodded and then bit her lip as Levi looked at her.

"Are you ok?" he asked privately.

"I don't know."

Levi wiped her tear away with his thumb.

"So, you'll be cool to get home, Millsy?" Jules asked.

Millsy nodded.

"Sure. I'll just get a cab."

Jules concentrated and ported them back to New York.

"I'll drop your stuff in tonight," he said, leaning in to Rebekah's ear.

"Stay smiling, baby sis."

"Just call if you need me."

Levi touched her cheek, then he and Jules ported out.

Jonothon

"C'mon, let's see Hank."

Jonothon touched her shoulder gently.

Rebekah

Rebekah nodded and looked at him.

"Ok."

Jonothon & Hank

Jonothon nodded slightly and led her down.

"Hank?"

"Coming!" Hank said cheerfully.

"What's the matter?" he asked as he came out of his office.

Rebekah

"He broke my hands," Rebekah said numbly, still half in shock.

She sat down on a bed.

Jonothon & Hank

Jonothon sat down next to her, offering his silent support.

"I would surmise you've already been to a hospital?" Hank said.

Jonothon nodded.

"Do you have the x-rays on you?"

Rebekah

Rebekah nodded at her bag, where the X-rays were, seeing as she couldn't use her hands.

God, they hurt.

Jonothon & Hank

Jonothon rubbed her shoulder lightly.

Hank went to pick up the x-rays and studied them silently for several minutes, then read the description of the doctor's treatments.

"I will do my best, Miss LaVaughney, you know that," he said slowly as he looked up.

"But the damage is quite extensive. However, I also have resources at my disposal that the hospitals do not. Do you need any painkillers?"

Rebekah

Rebekah nodded.

"Oui."

Hank

Hank got up and got her some painkillers, bringing back a glass of water as well.

"These are quite powerful, you should only take them every four hours. And you should not, under any circumstance, attempt to move anything, pick anything up or in any way use your hands. They need time to heal."

He gave her the pills into her mouth, and helped her swallow them.

Rebekah

Rebekah swallowed and nodded slightly.

"Merci. Jono... can we just go away now?"

Jonothon & Hank

Jonothon took the container of pills off Hank when the doctor handed them to him.

"Course, luv. Thanks, doc."

"It's my job," Hank said softly.

Rebekah

Rebekah got up slowly, careful not to use her hands, and sort of just shuffled out of the medlabs.

God, kill her, just kill her now.

Jonothon

Jonothon followed her.

"Luv yer."

He sighed slightly, keeping his anger at what had happened away from her as best he could.

Rebekah

"I love you too."

They went into Jono's room and Rebekah sat down on his bed, looking helpless.

Jonothon

"Why aren't you talking?" Jonothon asked as he sat down on his computer chair.

He looked at her worriedly.

Rebekah

"Just don't feel like it," Rebekah replied softly.

She looked at her hands.

Jonothon

Jonothon frowned, tapping at the table with his fingers, then shrugged.

"Alright, luv. Won't push yer."

Rebekah

Rebekah nodded slightly.

"Do you..."

Jonothon

"Do I wot?" Jonothon asked.

He lifted an eyebrow.

Rebekah

Rebekah got up and walked over to his bookshelf, looking at the books to busy herself.

"Still love me... even though I'm like this?"

Jonothon

"Of course. How could yer think I wouldn't?" Jonothon said, in some slight confusion.

Rebekah

"I don't know... I'm just helpless now."

Rebekah sighed and looked at his guitar for a moment, then turned away.

Jonothon

"You'll beat this," JOnothon said with conviction.

"I believe in yer, yer know."

Rebekah

"Thank you."

Rebekah turned and faced him, her lip quivering slightly.

Jonothon

Jonothon got up form his chair and leant in to kiss her gently.

"I do luv yer."

Rebekah

"I love you too."

Rebekah kissed him back, sighing slightly.

Jonothon

Jonothon tucked a lock of hair that was falling in her eyes behind her ear.

"I'll look after yer, luv."

Rebekah

Rebekah smiled slightly and kiss ed him again.

"Promise?"

Jonothon

"Promise."

Jonothon made an effort to smile back at her.

Rebekah

Rebekah sat down on Jono's bad and lay against the pillows.

"Love you," she murmured sleepily.

Jonothon

"Luv yer too..."

Jonothon watched her fall asleep, then turned to his computer.
