Taylor
*Two Days Earlier*
Taylor plonked down onto the bench in the park and pulled
out the knife he'd swiped from the kitchen on his way out. He
looked it over for a moment, before changing the style of blade.
He added flecks of colour, as the shape changed to something
of a flame.
Sighing, he put the knife away, and leant back closing his eyes.
"Hey there," came a voice not long after.
He looked up.
"Hey," he greeted, shifting along the seat as the teenager sat
beside him.
"You look a little lonely... sitting here all by yourself."
"Really?" Taylor rubbed his eyes tiredly.
"Yeah you do. So... does your girlfriend know about this?"
Taylor looked her over for a moment, then looked away.
"I don't have a girlfriend."
"You don't? But... I thought you were engaged..."
"We broke it off. I'd rather not talk about it."
The girl couldn't hide the gleeful expression on her face for a
moment.
"Ah... ok."
"Does your boyfriend know you're out here flirting?"
He raised his eyebrows.
"Actually... I'm single."
She bit her lip playfully. Taylor grinned.
"And ah... my parents are away for a week, so if you need
somewhere to go or anything... I only live a couple of blocks
away."
Taylor rubbed his chin.
"Are you busy this afternoon?"
The girl just seemed to get more excited.
"Actually... what do you say we head over there now?" Taylor
stood, turned his cell phone off and offered his hand.
The girl sat shocked for a moment, then took his hand.
"Ah... sure."
She stood and smiled.
"What's your name?" Taylor asked with a smile.
"Kat."
Taylor let her lead the way, feeling his pockets to make sure he
still had the knife - and his wallet and the like, of course.

*Present*
Taylor was watching the news.
"And now to this breaking story... Tulsan teen Kathryn
McLaughlin was found brutally murdered this afternoon by her
parents when they returned to their home from a week's
vacation."
Taylor rubbed his chin.
"Police suggest the murder took place some days ago, and the
killer was someone that she knew as there was no sign of a
struggle."
He turned the TV off and threw the remote down. Why did that
name sound familiar?
