8 April 2004 - Unexpected offers

Gunn, Faith and Angel

"Well, if it isn't our resident Vampire Slayer," Gunn said, stepping out of his office and walking across the expansive lobby of Wolfram and Hart.

"Wicked crib," Faith replied, looking around before focusing her attention on Gunn.

"And damn! This place looks good on you."

Gunn chuckled slightly.

"Wolfram and Hart boosted my brain power. Filled me with all sorts of law knowledge."

"Hey, whatever works. You look good."

"So, I'm guessing you're here to lose the bet?"

Faith grumbled and held out the twenty.

"You made a bet?" Angel asked, walking down the stairs.

"Faith. Are you ok? Nothing's wrong, is it?"

"Always business with you people. Nothing's wrong, this is a social call."

"Want to see my office?"

"Sure. Catch ya, Chuckles."

Gunn laughed and went back to his office, shaking his head slightly, while Faith followed Angel upstairs.

"Whoa!" Faith exclaimed, looking around.

"Wicked!"

"You like it, then?"

"Hell yeah! If you don't wanna work here, I will!"

Faith settled herself down on the couch and leant back.

"So, is this really a social call?" Angel asked, sitting across from her in an armchair.

"Half," Faith admitted.

"Gunn mentioned you were a little mopey... more so than usual. And that you wouldn't exactly say no to a visit, and I wanted to check in with Wes about Wrath."

"Barbelo?" Angel looked surprised.

"Is she after you?"

"Maybe, I don't think it's me, exactly but..."

"Brand. What do you know about her?"

Faith shrugged.

"Just that she's a wicked nasty bitch. So, how are you liking this place?"

"It's different," Angel replied diplomatically.

"It's bound to be that. But is it good or bad different?"

"Good, of course," Eve interrupted from her place in the doorway.

"You're back again?" Angel asked, barely looking up.

"Nice to see you to, Angel. And Faith."

Faith looked at her.

"How do you know my name?"

"I know a lot of things - "

"But apparently not how to shut up," Angel said sarcastically.

"Now, now, be nice. I have some news."

"Eve, besides hanging around and annoying me, what is your actual job?" Angel snapped.

"The Senior Partners asked me to tell you that Freyja is waiting outside to see... well, Faith," Eve replied.

"Wait, what's that and why does it wanna see me? And how did it know I'm here?" Faith asked.

"Freyja is the leader, if you will, of the Valkyries," Eve replied, before Angel could.

Angel shot her a venomous look.

"Show her in, then, Eve."

Eve simpered and left.

Moments later, a tall blonde woman, dressed in leather, and a green amulet around her neck, walked into the room.

Angel stood up.

"Freyja, to what do we owe this visit?"

"I am come to speak with the Slayer," Freyja replied, her voice low and melodious.

"And just why is that?" Faith asked, leaning forward in her seat.

"An offer," the Valkyrie replied.

"How did you know I was here?"

"We contacted Wolfram and Hart, and they agreed to get you here, so that we could make our offer."

"Gunn. Damn him." Faith shook her head.

"Who's we?"

"Valkyries. Warriors. We train great warriers to battle, and to be undefeated. We're offering you a chance to be a part of that. To be one of us."

Faith's eyes widened slightly and she looked at Angel.

Angel shrugged.

"You do not have to decide right now. Think it over. I will return in a week's time exactly, to find your answer. However, if you are curious during this time of thought, just call my name, and I will show you Valhalla."

Freyja smiled and touched her amulet, then stepped into the portal, before it closed.

Faith looked at Angel again.

"Damn. That's cool."

"It's a very high honour. One that you should consider strongly. They don't offer that to just anyone, you know."

"Yeah, plus I get to wear more leather."

"I get the feeling you're not taking this seriously."

"I am, really. I just... I don't know. I don't even know what Valkyrie's do, and why they'd want me, so... I'll just..."

"Look it up. Wesley has an extensive collection of books - "

"There's a surprise."

"Just, think it over, ok? Don't dismiss it right away," Angel said, holding his hand out for Faith.

"I'll think about it. Anyway, I'm hungry, aren't you going to buy me lunch?"

"Mooch."

"Damn straight."
