5 April 2004 - On da phone

Rogue and Gambit

"Ah can't believe Ah'm going to be graduating soon," Rogue was saying on the phone.

"Well, yo' are. Nervous?"

"Very."

"Have yo decided what yo' going ta do yet?"

"No, not really. Once Ah thought Ah might like ta be a teachah - ta help others learn how to control their powers. But Ah'm only just starting ta be able ta control mine! Not sure what a good teachah Ah would be."

"I'm sure yo' could do it just fine."

"Hmm, Ah don't know. At any rate, Ah was thinking of doing some travelling for a year. Maybe then Ah'll figure out what Ah want ta do."

"Sounds good ta me, Cherie."

"But enough about me -"

"I'm happy ta talk 'bout yo' all day."

"Oh shush. What's happening with you, shugah?"

"Same old, same old," Gambit always felt strange talking about what he did with Rogue, as if somewhere he felt his lifestyle just wasn't good enough. "Red misses the kids. Say, how's Zurina doing?"

"She's still mopey. Poor thing. Ah never saw a fuzzle so depressed," Rogue replied unhappily. "Ah don't know whta ta do ta cheer her up. Maybe Ah should go to the space station after graduation. There's prob'ly someone up there hwo might have some ideas."

"Probably," Gambit agreed.

They chatted a little longer, before hanging up. Gambit stared at the phone for awhile before moving off. He just wished that he could tell her something - anything - about what he did without feeling... guilty, or like he was putting her in danger. It was silly, he knew. He could probably tell her a great deal about her exploits and it wouldn't bother her. After all, she knew very well he was a thief. And in anycase she had absorbed him once. So what was his problem?
