22 March 2004 - Getting the message

Zac

Zac stared at the paper until it fell from his hand in shock.

Now he wished he had killed himself. If he had been dead, he never would have read this.

The house felt all so empty all of a sudden. Empty, and yet compressed, pushing in on him as if it were trying to suffocate him.

"Daddy? Daddy what's wrong?" asked the still small voice of Saku, breaking the sensation.

Zac was silent for a moment.

"Faithy doesn't love me anymore," he said quietly.

"Oh. Why not?"

"I don't know."

Zac wandered almost drunkedly into the lounge room and collasped on the lounge.

"Maybe she finally realised she was too good for me."

"Not too good for you," Saku said stubbornly. "Just as good as you."

"Yeah, right."

"Is true."

Zac snorted and Saku climbed up next to him.

"Daddy, don't cry."

"Why shouldn't I?"

"Don't like to see you sad. Faith still loves you."

"No she doesn't. She wishes she never married me. I bet she wishes she never even met me."

"Daddy -"

"Shut up Saku!"

Saku promptly started crying and the flood of tears that followed could have only been enhanced by his hydrokinesis. Zac immediately felt guilty about shouting at him.

"Oh, Saku, I'm sorry," Zac said appologetically. "I didn't mean to shout."

He sat up and wrapped his arms around his son.

"In fact, I shouldn't have," he went on. "Just because I'm having problems, gives me no excuse to take them out on you. Especially when you're just trying to help."

Saku snuggled next to Zac.

"I love you Daddy," he said.

"I love you too, Saku."
