29 Febuary 2004 - Happy Birthday Matt, it only comes around once every four years

Julie and Rogue

The rec room was all decorated, ready and waiting for the guests to arrive. For today was Matt's fifth birthday. He might look 20, but he was really 5.

"Happy birthday Matt!" Julie greeted upon entry.

"Thanks," Matt smiled.

"Personally, Ah'm proud of you Julie," Rogue said.

"Oh?"

"You managed to go to a birthday party and not find yourself someway to be the girl inside the cake."

"Oh, ha ha. And besides, this is a fifth birthday party. Not a bachelor party."

"You scare me."

"At least I scare someone."

Rachel

Joelle bounced around the room.

"THis is so exciting, and I'm not fighting, This is so cool, and you're no fool." Rachel laughed.

"This is pretty cool. So, Matt, what do you do on all the other years? I mean, next year it will be 21 years after you were born, but it won't be your birthday. It's weird."

Julie

"I still have parties," Matt replied. "Last few years they've been slumber parties and at midnight I say I'm four an a quarter, or whatever the case may be."

Julie giggled.

"That's so odd. No offence. Hey, are you allowed to drive?"

"I have fake ID," Matt joked. "I have ID with my proper birthday, but I also have ID that says my birthday is the 28th."

"Oooh I see. Very sneaky."

Rachel

"Groovy," Kitty replied, "excuse, me, I'll be back. I have a funk to beat somebody out of." She headed up to her room.

"Theresa," Rachel explained. "She thinks that Jamie's death is her fault, because it was her idea to go to the mall the day they were abducted. BUt she'll be okay in time. I think everybody I know blames themselves for somebody;s death. You get over it eventually. Hey, I killed my cousin when he was possesed by alien slugs, and it took me a long time to get over it." Most everybody nodded.

"Okay, we can either wax poetical about people we've lost, or we can party. And I, personally, vote for partying," Melissa said.

"Agreed," Rachel declared. "Hey, just a couple more days until I'm six months pregnant. I'm almost in the third trimester. Let's dance before I get too huge to move."

Sergei

Sergei slid his hand into Shannon's and squeezed it gently. He hadn't talked much after Rex had kidnapped him and the scientists had sliced the points of his ears off. He couldn't stand Siryn's screams. Not that they hadn't hurt before. But now they sent him to the ground in an approximation of a grand mal epilitic fit. Hank was mystified as to why such a small alteration could have had such an effect.

He sighed slightly and dropped his head slightly to whisper into her ear.

"Want to dance?"

Shannon and Rogue

Shannon smiled.

"Sure," she said, just as softly.

Rogue sat over to the side. She would have liked to have invited Gambit, but knew this wasn't possible. Maybe she'd skip out later and go visit him again.

Matt smiled wistfully as he watched everyone dance. He would have liked to ask someone, but until he could control this power of his... Too many people had gotten addicted to him in the past, and it was a frightening experience.
