1 February 2004 - Dancing again

Rebekah

Rebekah walked into the dance class and stood nervously as 11 girls all turned to look at her. She smiled slightly as one girl beckoned her over. She gratefully went.

"Hey, I'm Jessie."

"Rebekah," she replied.

"Now, we know you're not a first time dancer, or you wouldn't be in this class. So what school did you go to before?" another girl asked, draping an arm over Jessie's shoulder. "I'm Odette. Call me Odie."

"I danced back in France, and when I moved here a few months ago, I was not sure I wanted to keep dancing," Rebekah said, putting her bag down.

"What kind of dancing?" Odie asked, looking interested.

"You name it, I `ave probably done it. Classical, jazz, tap, contemporary, modern, funk, street, hip hop."

"Whoa, they're serious creds, girl. No wonder you're in this class. And thank God. Bout time we got some talent, right Cera?" Jessie said, shooting another girl a disdainful look.

"But before we get into that, I'm Nathan, but call me Nash," a guy said, holding his hand out to Rebekah. "I heard you were from Xavier's."

"How did you know zat?" Rebekah asked, almost suspiciously.

"Was on the call sheet. I'm enrolling there this afternoon."

"Cool."

Mutant. Interesting.

"Alright girls, and Nathan, I see you've met Rebekah. Why don't we do a warm up, then we'll get into it, ok?"

Rebekah looked up to see a petite woman with long blonde hair, tied up high on her head. She had brilliant green eyes, and she was dressed in red sweat pants and a black singlet. Her feet were bare.

The girls all formed two lines, and Rebekah was put at the front, in the middle.

"I wanna see what you can do," the woman said.

"That's Ada. She's the teacher, obviously," Odie said, whispering into Rebekah's ear.

The music started and Rebekah picked up the warm up steps fairly quickly. They then moved into a routine, which Ada took them through once, then let them try it.

The class ended and Ada called Rebekah over to her.

"You have a lot of talent."

Rebekah blushed. "Thank you."

"I'm impressed, and I'm not easily impressed," Ada told her. "There's a performance in two months, and I want you to be the lead."

"But surely zere are other girls who could - "

"Do not doubt your abilities. I'll work with you over time, whatever you need. But, I really think you hold a lot of potential…"

"For dancing."

"Yes. Don't look so shocked. I'll see you next week."
