Annika looked into Josh's crib. It was hard work taking care of 5 children under 2!
"Hello," she frowned, "it's a little dirty in there..."
Curious as to where the dirt came from, but more interested in keeping Josh clean and comfortable, she reached in to take Josh out - and he slipped right through her fingers!
Annika stepped back in shock, looking at the pile of dirt that only seconds ago was a 3 month old baby boy.
"Oh my gosh!" she yelped. "Josh? Josh?"
Her cries of alarm woke Tinga first, and subsequencly all the other babies. Annika forced herself to make a conscious effort to calm her panic. It took her awhile but she finally managed to calm the babies down, although she herself was rather high an adrenaline at the moment.
Breathing heavily still, Annika looked in on Josh's crib and to her relief watched him return to human form. There was no doubt in her mind that what she had seen was no hallucination. She chewed her lip, wondering what she should do. Tinga and Josh were mutant children. Julie didn't know who the father was (although she admitted she had a list of possibilities).
Annika decided that when Julie got back, she was going to talk her into having a DNA test done. These were second generation mutants. Whatever reason Julie had for not getting a DNA test done before hand was surely less important than finding out what kind of powers she should expect to come from her children. Certainly, unlike aliens, powers in mutants had a strong hereditary factor, and inheritance should not be something so easily dismissed.
She, of all people, should know that.
