The Subpoena

Taylor

Taylor had come out to the kitchen for something or other and noticed a letter addressed to him on the counter. He glanced around for a second wondering who'd brought it in, before realising that nothing else had been opened so it obviously hadn't been one of his brothers.

He picked it up and, noticing it was important, opened it. As his eyes fell over the fine print he couldn't help but gulp.

Mr. Jordan Taylor Hanson,
Your presence is requested next month as a high profile witness as part of the case of the people versus Dr. Kaleb Blakesley in the YIRAAS court of law...

He quickly read down the details, noticing they didn't say anything about him not having to share the room with Blakesley. He decided to work on the instinct that he could trust Tanya and kept that in mind.

He sighed to himself. This had better be worth it in the end.

Zac

Zac came wandering out into the kitchen.

"Hey, Tay," he said, opening up the fridge.

He pulled out the orange juice and took a longer look at his brother.

"Why the long face?"

Taylor

Taylor shrugged.

"You tell me."

He handed him the letter.

Zac

Zac scanned it, then handed it back.

"I still think they should forget the trial, kill the guy and get it over with. There's a reason why there was a death warrant on him."

He picked a glass out of the cupboard.

Taylor

"It would certainly save a lot of hassle," Taylor shrugged.

"I almost wish Christian had killed him that night."

Zac

Zac poured the orange juice into his glass, and then put it back in the fridge.

"Do you know why he didn't?"

Taylor

"Not really, no," Taylor shook his head.

"Unless he figured that death was the easy way out for him."

Zac

"Hmm, yeah, I suppose that's a point," Zac mused.

He hoisted himself onto the bench and started drinking.

Taylor

"Well," and Taylor took a deep breath, "let's hope this doesn't go for too long then."

He slapped the paperwork against his opposite palm and left the room.
