Changing

Written by AiMsTeR and Michelle

Taylor

Taylor was ready to practically powerwalk to Tanya's quarters as usual when he left the teleportation level, and he did just that.

Unfortunately he did cross an Adegian in the corridor just metres from Tanya's door. Trying to basically ignore it as it passed, he had to stop and lean against the wall for a moment when it had gone.

Something was wrong. That was worse than the last time.

He attempted to shrug it off as he felt a little faint before finally making it to Tanya's door and knocking, silently pleading with her to hurry and answer it.

Tanya

Tanya opened the door.

"Hi Taylor," she said cheerfully, "Come on in."

She held the door open for him.

Taylor

"Hey," Taylor murmured, feeling dizzy as he stepped through and found his usual seat.

"How are you?"

Tanya

"I'm good," Tanya replied, closing the door and following Taylor in as always.

She frowned slightly.

Taylor

"Yeah, I'm ok," Taylor insisted as it started to wear off.

"Just... passed an Adegian in the corridor. They're not too good for me, apparently."

Tanya

"Ahh," Tanya nodded. "The healers - well, primarily anyway - have been trying to figure out for ages why everyone reacts differently. Some people, like your brother change almost the moment they step on board, and others, like myself, haven't changed a smidge. When you're ready we can get started."

Taylor

Taylor scratched his arm awkwardly.

"Yeah I know, it's weird. And we can start now," he offered.

Tanya

Tanya nodded. She leant back into her seat and delved into Taylor's mind. Today she took with her one of here telapathic instruments, as today she was going to remove some damaged telepathic tissue, and graft on some new from another part of Taylor's mind she had prepared previously. There just hadn't been any other way to get past this particular spot.

It felt like ages before she got the last of the damaged tissue out, but she did finally. She then started with the grafting.

While planting the new tissue, Tanya noticed something odd at one remote region of his mind. It didn't appear to be harmful (certainly not by comparrision to the other things going on in here), and knowing she needed to be focused on this task, she made a mental note to keep an eye on the spot in the future.

Finally, she was done.

Taylor

Taylor opened his eyes as he felt her pull out, then took a deep breath as he waited for the vertigo to settle.

"Anything interesting?" he asked conversationally.

Tanya

Tanya took a moment to gulp down some water before replying.

"Funny you should ask that," she said. "I did spot something unusual today. What it was I'm not sure, but it's probably harmless."

Taylor

"Are you sure?" Taylor frowned suddenly.

"I mean, that nothing... you know. If you didn't know what it was then maybe..."

Tanya

"It's hard to explain," Tanya replied. "But put simply, it doesn't eminate the same way the the real damage does in your mind. I'm going to keep an eye on it, nonetheless."

Taylor

"Ok," Taylor nodded, still a little unsure.

"I guess I'd better get out of here while I can. There's a lot of crowd coming up today."

He stood from the chair.

"And Merry Christmas," he smiled, extending his hand.

Tanya

Tanya took his hand with a smile.

"Merry Christmas," she said. "Have a good trip home, and I'll see you next year."

Taylor

"You will," Taylor agreed, "and thanks for everything."

And he soon departed.
