Taylor was mindlessly fiddling with one of the pendants hung around his neck as he entertained Dee Dee in the nursery, when it suddenly hit.
He wasn't all that sure why it took so long - maybe it was to do with his power failing him a lot lately, but he definitely should have picked it up sooner.
He lifted the crucifix from around his neck and stared at it, seemingly becoming oblivious to Dee Dee or anything else in the room.
Zac
Zac wandered into the nursary to check up on Dee Dee, when he spotted Taylor staring at one of his pendants.
"Tay?" he asked curiously.
Taylor
Taylor looked up at him startled, before flinging the crucifix into the palm of his hand and looking down on it.
"Hey Zac," he said quietly.
Zac
"What's so facinating?" Zac inquired.
He closed the difference between himself and Dee Dee.
"Hey sweetie," he cooed.
Taylor Taylor stood from where he'd been kneeling on the floor.
"Just... contemplating... something..." he looked pained.
He looked up and then tapped Zac on the shoulder to get his attention.
"Come with me to church on Sunday."
Zac
Zac shrugged.
"Yeah, okay. Ought to go more often than I do anyway. Saku doesn't go. I mean, when you're a godling, going to church is a little... awkward," he said.
Taylor
"I don't... I don't care," Taylor practically whined.
He ran his fingers through his hair before debating with himself whether or not to return the crucifix to his neck.
Zac
Zac raised his eyebrows.
"Well, sorry for passing on useless information," he muttered, then changed his tone: "Not that I mind going, o'course, but why the interest in me going with you? Ike goes every week like a good little Christian boy."
Taylor
"Well we're the ones that need the soul searching," he said softly, then bit his lip.
"And... I need to see something."
Zac
Zac looked at Taylor curiously.
"What do you need to see?"
Taylor
Taylor stared his brother in the eyes for a rather intimidating amount of time, before opening his fist and using his other hand to point at the crucifix.
"A few months ago... that was me," he said simply.
Zac
Zac frowned, looking at the crucifix. Then his eyes widened in realisation.
"Ahh..." was all he could think of to say.
Taylor
Taylor's eyes searched Zac's for a moment. When there was no other respones, he closed his fingers over the necklace again before replacing it around his neck.
"Dee's been great all morning," he changed the subject rather suddenly.
"She wanted to go out but I didn't hint that it'd be happening anytime soon."
Zac
Zac looked back over at Dee Dee.
"Oh, she could go out if she wants to," he said.
He chewed his lip for a moment.
"You could take her if you want..."
Taylor
"As if Tad would let me," Taylor rolled his eyes, managing to hold back a scowl and accompanying growl.
He stood to the side a little and just looked down on her.
Zac
"Oh yeah, I forgot," Zac replied. "Sorry."
He paused, then a small grin crossed his face.
"Of course, this means that Tad'll have to come to Church with us."
Taylor
Taylor just crinkled his brow and gave him a pained look before turning his attention back to Dee Dee.
"Figures," he muttered.
Zac
"No, c'mon, Tay. It'll be funny," Zac grinned. "He'll have to sit through the whole service, and he'll have to sit there and be quiet and respectful. He'll probably scrunch up int he corner with his arms folded across his chest and be completely bored. And what's more... since I think we can assume Mrs Whitman is still going there..."
He trailed off, his grin getting bigger and bigger as he pictured that passionate Mrs Whitman approaching Tad, engaging him in conversation about God and encouraging him to return and come to whatever their Church's next community event was.
Taylor
Taylor hesitated thoughtfully before he cracked a grin.
"I forgot about her," he chuckled a little.
"If we're lucky she'll distract him long enough for us to get some time to ourselves."
Zac
"Sounds like a plan," Zac said, grin still showing no sign of fading.
It was good to see a grin of Taylor's face again.
Taylor
Taylor nodded.
"Yeah. I guess we'll see."
Then he raised his eyebrows and patted Zac on the shoulder.
"Time for me to leave the room," he insisted as Dee's facial expression changed slightly, "it's your turn, daddy."
Then he headed for the door.
Zac
"Huh?" Zac asked, confused.
Then he paused, picked up Dee Dee and smelt her nappy experimentally.
"Oh crud."
Taylor
"Have fun!" Taylor said as he closed the door behind him.
