Lucious & Christian

Only a few murmurs had been heard since Christian had been brought into the warehouse, and no one had even tried to talk to him. It didn't bother him – he'd rather have the time alone.

It was many hours later before Lucious again made an appearance. He was on his own this time.

Christian didn't even look up as the bars to his cell were opened, then closed again behind the telepath.

"Good evening Christian," he greeted, making his way over to the opposite wall and creating a stool from the rock it was made of.

He sighed and sat on it, finally looking up.

"I know you're wondering why you're here..."

"You want to keep me from saving the life of someone who's meant everything to me practically my whole life, that's why," Christian murmured, looking down at his hands.

Lucious hesitated, then shifted slightly.

"If that was the only reason, don't you think I would have simply killed you?"

"Well this is your show, you tell me," Christian raised his eyebrows.

Lucious sighed again, then shifted his glasses onto the top of his head.

"I want to offer you a job, Christian."

"What?" Christian looked up, a scornful look in his eyes already.

"I want you to work for me, here and outside. I know you have a lot of contacts..."

"Wait, wait, wait... you can't be serious," Christian shook his head.

"Oh yes, I'm very serious," Lucious insisted.

"And what makes you think I haven't already got a job?" Christian scorned, "what makes you think I even need or want one?"

"This isn't about wants or needs, Christian," Lucious began softly, never letting his voice raise, "it is simply my way of gaining resources."

"Well so far I think I'm declining."

Christian shifted slightly, sitting back on the bed so his back leant against the wall, and he was facing the door.

Lucious watched him for a moment, contemplating the situation.

"This, of course, is another situation I am simply offering for you to act freely on," he began again, "unfortunately, the offer won't always be there."

Christian frowned, then looked across at him again.

"You mean you're just gonna make me your little puppy dog if I say `no'?" he scowled.

"What do you think?" Lucious kept the serious look on his face as he stood.

"I will give you precisely three weeks to come up with your decision," he offered as he moved towards the door and the guard opened it.

He hesitated and turned back.

"Choose wisely. You will remain here until that time. I look forward to having you on board."

He smiled, then left. Christian watched him disappear from sight, then groaned and leant back again, closing his eyes.
