25 January 2004 - One day

Written by Tegan and Nessa

Khaos

From her position in Olympus, watching the mutant high school was suddenly becoming very fascinating. There was one student in patricular, who had suffered so much pain, and deserved at least one day of happiness.

She went to the Powers That Be and asked them a favour, and they readily complied, unwilling to turn down a higher power than themselves.

And so, for one day... Jonothon Starsmore had his wish...

Jonothon

Jonothon turned from his computer and stretched. He had been hunting through clubs and bars in New York, seeing which ones were advertising for a band. He;d found a few, sent what he called their 'brag file'. Mainly some pictures, a few clips and references.

He caught sight of himself in the mirror hanging off his wardrobe door and frowned slightly. His bandages weren't laying right. He got up and started to unwrap them, expecting to see the normal flickering of astral flame through the hole his body was.

"OH MY GOD!" "OH MY GOD!"

He clapped a hand to his mouth. His *mouth*!

Rebekah

Rebekah winced as a loud cry echoed through her head. She rolled over and looked at her clock.

Damn.

She got up slowly and headed to Jono's room.

"Jono, you ok?"

Jonothon.

"Fine, I'm fine! Better then, even!"

Jonothon shrugged off his shirt, unwrapping the bandages that he had to wear to protect the world around him from the uncontrollable surges of flame that lived in his body. He opened the door, smiling.

"Bek, look!"

Rebekah

Rebekah gaped for a moment then wrapped her arms around Jono and hugged him tightly.

"Oh my god!"

She stood back and smiled in amazement.

"This is fantastic!"

Jonothon.

Jonothon picked her up and whirled her around, laughing.

"I can't believe it! I don't even care how it 'appened! I just..."

Rebekah

Rebekah joined in his laughter.

"It's so amazing!"

Jonothon.

Jonothon refused to entertain the thought that it might go away. It couldn't. Not again.

He brushed his fingers across Rebekah's cheek.

"I think...I want to eat. For the first time since everythin' went barking."

Rebekah

"Understandable... we do have some delicious new food products these days."

Rebekah took his hand and started to pull him towards the caf.

Jonothon.

"You never think about 'ow much yer gonna miss things till ya can't have them no more," Jonothon said, letting himself be led.

"Food, booze, whatever. Even talkin'."

Rebekah

They reached the caf and Rebekah gestured around.

"Well, now you can do everything you've been missing."

Jonothon.

"In-f*cking-credible," Jonothon said.

He served himself some food and sat down.

"Bloody hell, that's good," he said after his first bite.

"Insane wot yer forget."

Rebekah

Rebekah smiled faintly and got herself and Jono a drink.

She set the drink in front of him.

"So how long has it been, exactly?"

Jonothon.

"Not long at all, I think," Jonothon said.

"I noticed my bandages weren't lying right...so I took them off. And Bob's yer uncle, no problem anymore."

Rebekah

"That's really amazing!"

Rebekah slid into the seat next to him and yawned slowly.

Jonothon

"Sorry I got you up," Jonothon said.

"I didn't mean to, I just. . ."

He shook his head slightly.

"I can't believe this."

Rebekah

Rebekah smiled.

"Hey, it's ok. I made you come for me. . . that night."

Jonothon.

Jonothon shrugged.

"No problem, I told you that."

He sipped from his coffee and sighed happily.

"Know anyone I can bag a smoke off?"

Rebekah

Rebekah thought for a moment.

"Probably Tav. Jay, Bob?"

Jonothon, Jay & Silent Bob.

Jonothon nodded.

"Good thought."

He looked up as Jay and Silent Bob entered, Jay doing some sort of odd dance. Which was usual for Jay. Oddness being very, very usual, depending on whatever drug they'd taken the night before. Day. Minute. Whatever.

"Hey, can I scab a cigarette?" Jonothon drawled.

"You want something, you got to pay for it, douche!" Jay said.

Jonothon snorted and held his hand out. Silent Bob handed him a cigarette and Jonothon flicked an eyebrow up at him as he slid it into his mouth.

"Ta, mate."

"The f*ck you doing, you tubby bitch," Jay said.

Silent Bob shrugged slightly as he lit his own cigarette.

Rebekah

Rebekah stifled a yawn and drank some more coffee.

Jonothon, Jay, Silent Bob & Loki.

Jonothon looked at Rebekah.

"Sorry for getting you up."

Jay snickered. Silent Bob rolled his eyes and drew back on his cigarette.

"Oh, shut the f*ck up and piss off," Jonothon snapped at Jay.

"That's only directed to the blonde arsehole."

"You think you're so good, motherf*cker?" Jay said.

"Go and toss off, Jay," Jonothon said.

"Since Kate pissed off, the f*ck you're getting any."

"And you are, pansy ass?" Jay sneered.

Jonothon looked smug.

"Well, yeah. Ski holiday, mate."

Loki sauntered up behind them, looking glower-y as usual.

Rebekah

Rebekah put her hand on Jonothon's arm.

"It's ok."

She blushed slightly and looked away.

Jonothon & Jay

Jay noticed, and snickered. Jonothon glared at him.

"Sod off."

"So, you f*cked him," Jay said.

"Mouth, hand, cunt?"

Rebekah

Rebekah bit her lip and pretended she didn't hear the question, busying herself by taking another large sip of coffee.

Ok, that burned.

Jonothon, Jay, Silent Bob & Loki.

"Well, whore, you didn't answer my f*cking question," Jay said.

"How much for an hour?"

Jonothon stood up and leant over the table.

"Go away, before I make you think you're a six year old bint. And I'll let Bek braid your long hippie hair and buy you Barbies."

"Think you can f*cking take me, bitch?" Jay said, flicking his head from side to side.

"Get him, Silent Bob."

Silent Bob sighed slightly and made an apologetic shrug, then tapped on Jay's shoulder.

"F*cking what, lunchbox?"

Loki hit Jay over the head with the hilt of his sword and Jay crumpled. Silent Bob caught him and glared at Loki.

"What? F*cking stoner was getting on my nerves."

Rebekah

Rebekah smiled gratefully at Jonothon and Loki.

"So, what did you want to do now that you have everything back?"

Jonothon, Silent Bob & Loki.

Silent Bob left, with Jay draped over his shoulder. Something in his attitude said he'd done this before. Loki snorted and walked off in a different direction.

"Well. . ."

Jonothon stroked his fingers over her cheek.

"What do you think?"

Rebekah

Rebekah blushed again and smiled.

"Me?"

Jonothon.

"I don't see many other beautiful girls up at five in the morning," Jonothon said.

"I didn't mean to wake you up. But I'm glad you did."

Rebekah

Rebekah blushed harder.

"I. . . Jono, you don't have to lie."

Jonothon.

Jonothon cupped her face gently.

"I just got my mouth back. You think I'm gonna lie with it? Sides, telepathy. . .I don't think I can lie anymore."

Rebekah

Rebekah smiled slowly.

"Well, that's a plus. . ."

She looked away from him.

Jonothon.

Jonothon looked like he was going to say something.

"Jono!" Angelo said as he entered the caf.

"Tough night? Why have you got Rebekah up for?"

"Well, I didn't exactly mean to," Jonothon said, turning around.

"Madre de Dios!"

Rebekah

Rebekah slipped her hand under the table and put her hand on Jonothon's knee.

"Isn't it wonderful?"

Jonothon.

Jonothon smiled.

Angelo shook his head slightly.

"That's just. . .how? Do we know how? Should we be frightened if we don't?"

"I don't care," Jonothon said.

"Don't look a gift `orse in the mouth."

Rebekah

"Exactly, if we find out why this happened, then it's like an added bonus."

Rebekah leaned her head on Jonothon's shoulder.

Jonothon.

Jonothon's smile got a bit wider.

Angelo coughed slightly.

"Yeah, so I think I'll be going over there now. Bye. See you later. You finished that essay for Storm, right?"

"Yeah."

"Ah, cool."

Angelo left.

Jonothon rubbed his fingers over her thigh lightly.

"So."

Rebekah

Rebekah lifted her head from Jonothon's shoulder and looked him in the eyes, smiling and blushing faintly.

"So indeed."

Jonothon.

Jonothon leant his forehead against hers.

"Hmm."

Rebekah

"Hmmm."

Rebekah leaned in a bit closer.

Jonothon.

Jonothon leant down and brushed his lips over hers gently.

God.

Rebekah

Rebekah moved forward and kissed him properly, her hands sliding around his neck gently.

Jonothon.

Jonothon kissed her back, hand sliding down to rest on her hip.

"Ah, Bek. . ."

Rebekah

Rebekah pulled away gently.

"Why don't we go somewhere else, that isn't on public display."

Jonothon.

"Yeah," Jonothon said in a husky voice.

"Rec room? Not many people there this hour of the morning."

Rebekah

Rebekah nodded and kissed him one last time before standing up.

"Sounds good."

She blushed slightly and took Jonothon's hand shyly.

Jonothon.

Jonothon curled his fingers through hers as they left the caf and went to the rec room. They entered and the TV was on.

"C'mon," Jonothon said quietly, turning to one of the tables and easy chairs set up further away in the room.

Bobby and Rebekah

Bobby heard voices and looked up.

"Hey. . . hey Jono. . . you look different."

"What are you - " Rebekah cut herself short as she spotted Octavian. "Oh, well that answers the question."

Octavian & Jonothon.

Octavian looked up over the edge of the couch sleepily, then smiled slightly.

"We know what we've been doing. The question is, what have you been doing? Or who, should I say?"

"Shut it, Tav," Jonothon said.

"I've had enough macho shit to deal with this morning, ta muchly."

"You. . .have a mouth."

"You. . .are f*cking perceptive. For a blond."

Bobby and Rebekah

"Oh yeah. . . I was going to say a haircut or something, but it just seems so obvious now," Bobby said.

"Well. . . that's. . . um. . . clever of you," Rebekah replied.

"Hey, it's six in the morning. Which begs the question, why are you up? Or shouldn't I ask?"

Jonothon & Octavian.

"I have *really* had it with that type of bollocks," Jonothon said.

Octavian held his hands up defensively, then decided kissing Bobby was far smarter to do then argue with the overprotective would be boyfriend of Rebekah. Jonothon snorted slightly and turned to Rebekah.

"Anyway. . ."

Bobby and Rebekah

Bobby made a muffled noise, then shrugged and kissed Octavian back.

He wasn't exactly going to complain. It's not like it was a punishment.

Rebekah squeezed Jonothon's hand gently.

"Oui. . . well then."

Octavian & Jonothon.

Octavian kissed Bobby, tongue sliding and teasing the stud lightly.

Jonothon led her over to one of the chairs and sat down, tugging her down into his lap.

"So. . .maybe getting a gig in a few weeks."

Bobby and Rebekah

Bobby moaned softly into Octavian's mouth, and giggled slightly as he heard the Smurfs talking.

Rebekah nodded.

"Really? Cool."

She thought for a moment, letting a finger trail down his cheek.

"I have a friend who owns her own club here, and she's always looking for musical acts. . ."

Octavian & Jonothon.

"I feel insulted, I think," Octavian said, pulling back.

"Here I am, attempting to snog you if not senseless, at least stupid and you're laughing at that TV. You shouldn't be able to hear it."

Jonothon nodded.

"Cool."

Bobby and Rebekah

"Maybe you should try again," Bobby said, grinning cheekily.

"Well. . . if you feel like going out tonight. . . I could give her a call," Rebekah suggested.

Octavian & Jonothon.

Octavian pouted.

"I shouldn't have to. I don't think you deserve it."

Jonothon laced his fingers together over Rebekah's stomach.

"You think we could get on stage?"

Bobby and Rebekah

"Well. . ."

Bobby shrugged and pounced on Octavian, kissing him deeply.

Rebekah nodded and kissed his forehead gently.

"I think I could convince her, yes."

Octavian & Jonothon.

Octavian moaned, sliding one leg around Bobby's.

"Great," Jonothon said.

"If she does. . .what should we sing?"

Rebekah

Rebekah shrugged and leant her head against Jonothon's.

"I have no idea."

Jonothon.

Jonothon thought for a moment.

"Is there anything from Moulin Rouge we can nick? All the practice shouldn't go to waste."

Rebekah and Bobby

"Oh yeah, good idea."

Rebekah laughed softly.

"I don't know why I didn't think of it. Come What May."

"Come? Not yet, but pretty soon," Bobby piped up, sticking his head up from the couch.

Octavian & Jonothon.

Octavian chuckled slightly and pulled Bobby's mouth back down to his, grinding his hips against the other teen slowly.

Jonothon shook his head.

"Shut up, Bobby."

Rebekah

Rebekah nodded.

"I tell him that all the time, but he never listens."

Jonothon.

"Silly bugger," Jonothon said.

"He should listen to you. You say a lot of things worth listening to."

Rebekah

Rebekah blushed and looked away. She glanced at her watch.

"Almost seven. What did you want to do today?"

Jonothon.

"I don't know. . .maybe we should actually practise the songs. Or we could go catch a movie, something."

Jonothon could almost look forward to going out. No stares, muffled exclamations and the damning thoughts. . .

Rebekah

Rebekah hopped up from Jonothon's lap.

"Well. . . I should have a shower."

She gave him a small smile.

Jonothon.

"Yeah, I should probably as well," Jonothon said.

"I'll see you in a bit?"

Rebekah

Rebekah trailed her fingers down his arm gently.

"Yeah, just come to my room when you're done."

She went to her room and picked up some clothes, then went into the bathrooms, had a shower and dressed in a short pinstriped denim skirt, and a white singlet.

She brushed her hair and tied it up in a pony tail, and headed back to her room, where she sat on the end of her bed, tuning her guitar, waiting for Jonothon.

Jonothon.

Jonothon showered, using one of the male shower blocks. He had to wash his hair, yeah, but showering because he'd sweated. . .something he hadn't done since Before.

He dressed in his usual black jeans, black Docs and a black t- shirt. He liked black. It was a good colour.

He grabbed his guitar and went to Bek's room, knocking on her door first.

"Bek? It's me, Jono."

Rebekah

Rebekah could hardly stop the smile from forming on her face as she set her guitar down and stood up.

She walked over to the door and opened it, smiling shyly at Jonothon.

"Hello again."

Jonothon.

Jonothon smiled back.

"Yeah. Hey."

He lifted his guitar slightly.

"Ready to play?"

Rebekah

Rebekah nodded and stepped away from the door, letting him in and closing it behind him.

"Ok."

She sat down on the bed and lifted her guitar up again.

Jonothon.

Jonothon sat on the floor, cradling his guitar. He tuned it by ear, humming slightly and smiling as he did so.

Rebekah

"Ok, so. . ."

Rebekah played the opening chords of the song and started to sing.

Jonothon.

Jonothon picked up the harmony line with his deeper sounding guitar, adding depth to the music. He was surprised, actually, that his voice was as steady as it was.

They sang through the song a few times, bickering slightly but amiably about chord changes and harmonies. But it was good.

Jonothon flexed his fingers slightly.

"Hmm. . .I'm hungry. What about you?"

Rebekah

"Yeah, sounds good, come on."

Rebekah stood up and put her guitar down. She slipped a pair of white thongs on and opened her door.

Jonothon.

Jonothon smiled slightly as he slung his guitar over his shoulder on its strap.

"I still can't believe this is real. I know I'm not dreaming. . .but I. . ."

He shrugged slightly.

Rebekah

Rebekah nodded.

"Well," she said, pinching him on his arm. "You're not dreaming, because that would've woken you up."

Jonothon.

"And thank you for that demo, Bek," Jonothon said, rubbing his arm slightly.

"Anyway."

They left the room.

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah slid into a seat as Bobby spotted them walk in.

He walked over, grinning cheekily.

"So. . . what have you crazy kids been up to?"

"None of your business."

"Oh. . . like *that* is it? Hey Tav! Guess what Bek's been up to!"

Jonothon & Octavian.

"Go away, Bobby," Jonothon said.

"We've been playing our guitars and singing, that's it. You arse."

"He can be, but it's such a nice one," Octavian said.

"Don't make a habit out of checking out Bobby's arse, so I wouldn't know," Jonothon said scathingly.

"I do," Octavian replied.

"You check out anything, guy, bint or four legged animal."

"Not true!"

Bobby and Rebekah

"I do have a nice arse, don't I, Rebekah?" Bobby asked, sitting down next to her.

"Wouldn't know. I try not to make a habit of looking at you."

"I'm wounded," Bobby said, pouting at her. "I thought you loved me."

Rebekah raised an eyebrow in confusion and just shook her head.

"Oh yeah, she loves me."

Jonothon & Octavian.

"You are just right daft, aren't you?" Jonothon said.

"Using Britishisms around Americans isn't particularly fair," Octavian said.

"They usually have no idea what we're talking about."

"Bobby just doesn't have ideas, period."

Bobby and Rebekah

"I'd argue, but who am I to argue with the truth? However, I'm having an idea right now. Involving me, Bek and some handcuffs."

Bobby wiggled his eyebrows.

Rebekah wrinkled her nose and tensed slightly, drumming her fingers on the table.

"Not even if you paid me, Bobby."

"I wouldn't need to. . . you'd pay me, because I am that good."

Jonothon & Octavian.

Jonothon leant up slightly and grabbed the front of Bobby's shirt.

"Piss. Off."

Octavian coughed slightly.

"I say, steady on, old chap."

"If he f*cks off or doesn't say shit like that, I won't hurt him. As it is, he's cruising for a right set of black eyes."

Jonothon released Bobby's shirt with a little shove at him.

Bobby and Rebekah

Bobby patted his shirt down and grinned slightly.

"Can't win them all. Well. . . yes, I can. But that's not the point. Why don't we leave the new happy. . . whatever they are, to themselves, Tav?"

Rebekah gave Jonothon a thankful look.

Jonothon & Octavian.

Jonothon raised an eyebrow at Octavian, looking slightly menacing.

"Ah, yes, smashing idea," Octavian said.

Well, this was going to be interesting. Keeping Bobby's skin whole and unbruised was going to be a challenge.

"Your room?" Octavian asked Bobby.

Bobby and Rebekah

"Sure, wanna join us Bek?" Bobby caught Jono's look. "Ok, kidding. Sorta."

Bobby hopped up and kissed the top of Rebekah's head, then darted from the room.

Rebekah rolled her eyes and held onto Jono's hand.

Octavian & Jonothon.

"And I'm just going to . . .go."

Octavian ran after Bobby, dodging past Jubilee on his way out.

"And keep the noise down, please!" Jubilee called after him.

"Can I help it if he's just that good?" Octavian called back.

She made a face.

"Bleah!"

Jonothon raised Rebekah's hand to his lips and kissed it.

Rebekah

Rebekah smiled shyly.

"So, did we want to eat, or just get harassed by Bobby all day? I'm voting for food."

Jonothon.

Jonothon nodded.

"Food, much better idea. Bloody Bobby."

He rolled his eyes slightly, then got up.

"Want anything in particular?"

Rebekah

"Surprise me."

Rebekah paused.

"But don't do what Bobby did and gave me. . . some weird. . . dirt looking substance."

Jonothon.

"Alrighty."

Jonothon went and got them both some pastries and cakes from the servery. He brought back a heaped plate and two cups of coffee.

"This alright?"

He sat down, putting the plate between them and sliding the cup of coffee over to her.

Rebekah

"Well, it's not dirt."

Rebekah smiled at him.

"Thanks."

She lifted the coffee to her lips and sipped at it.

Jonothon.

"Watching everyone eat. . .you tend to remember what they like," Jonothon said.

"Well, I remember what you liked. Some other people I might not care."

Rebekah

Rebekah blushed and looked away, over at some of the other students who were coming into the caf.

"Oh. . ."

Jonothon & Sergei.

Jonothon smiled slightly and sipped from his cup of coffee.

Sergei stumbled into the caf, holding his head carefully.

"Rough night?" Jonothon called out at him.

"Oh god, don't shout."

Rebekah and Nicole

Rebekah picked apart a pastry carefully.

Nicole walked in and spotted them, grinning to herself. She flounced over and sat across from them.

"Good morning!" she said happily.

"Morning," Rebekah replied.

"Have you seen Bobby? He promised to help me. . . uh, with Biology."

"Bobby doesn't do Biology," Rebekah replied.

"That's what you think. Hey Jono, you look. . . normal. And hot."

Jonothon & Sergei.

"Yeah."

Jonothon rolled his eyes.

"Bobby shoved off with Tav. If you hurry, you might actually catch them before they come."

Sergei sat down carefully, holding a cup of coffee in his shaking hands.

"Why do I do this to myself?"

"Because you're a f*cking idiot."

Rebekah and Nicole

Rebekah nudged Jono under the table.

"Oh hush. Sergei, you do it because you're just an idiot."

Nicole frowned.

"Hmm, well. . . I'm going to go find Tav and Bobby. Tata all."

She got up and skipped out of the caf.

Jonothon & Sergei.

Jonothon snorted and sipped from his coffee.

"Skank."

Sergei just drank his coffee. He'd already heard about Jono's opinions. Over and over and over.

Rebekah

Rebekah finished her coffee and got up to get herself a glass of orange juice.

"Want one?" she asked Jono.

Jonothon & Sergei.

"Ta, Bek," Jonothon said.

Sergei looked up, then returned to his coffee and not throwing up.

Rebekah

Rebekah went into the kitchen and retrieved two glasses, and then ran into Meg.

"Morning Rebekah," Meg said pleasantly.

"Ah, morning Meg. How were Filipo and Terence last night?"

Jonothon & Sergei.

Jonothon sipped from his coffee and started to eat a Danish.

"So. . .a mouth. Working well for you?" Sergei said in a serious voice.

"Oh, shut the hell up."

"No, I'm serious. What's up with you and Bek?"

"I'm not sure."

Rebekah

Rebekah got the orange juice from the fridge and poured out two glasses while talking to Meg.

Jonothon & Sergei.

"Done anything?" Sergei asked.

"We've kissed. That's it."

"Hey, you had sex on the ski trip."

"Shut up. This is different."

Rebekah

Rebekah talked to Meg a few moments longer, than returned to the table, placing Jono's glass in front of him.

"Sorry, I ran into Meg in the kitchen."

Jonothon.

"S'alright, luv."

Jonothon smiled at her and drank from the glass.

"Talking about the kids?"

Rebekah

"Yeah, I should go see them. I might do that now, that ok?"

Rebekah stood up and ran a hand through her hair.

"I'll be back soon."

Jonothon & Sergei.

Jonothon nodded.

"Yeah, you should. I'll probably go and do some practice with the band."

"Oh god, please no," Sergei moaned.

Rebekah

Rebekah nodded and let her fingers trail across Jono's shoulder as she left.

The Displaced.

Jonothon sat back slightly and talked to his band members telepathically and arranged the band practice. He walked up to the band room with Sergei.

"Hey," Angelo said as he sat down at the drums.

"Hey," Jonothon nodded at Angelo as he sat at his chair.

"We're going to practice `Doll'. . .if Tav ever manages to turn up."

Octavian skidded into the room, hair tousled and clothes rumpled.

"So, what did I miss?"

"Not much," Sergei said.

"God, couldn't you at least change clothes?"

Octavian shrugged slightly as he walked over to the piano.

"Possibly. But it's more fun to reinforce the fact that I'm having sex and you're not."

"Oh, shut up."

Jonothon rolled his eyes.

"Or are you?" Octavian said, looking at Jonothon.

"I know Sergei isn't."

"Shut up!" Sergei snarled.

"Yeah, ok, what are we doing?" Octavian said.

"You're singing `Doll', and we're playing the music for it," Jonothon said.

"Think you can handle that?"

"Yes, yes I can," Octavian said.

They started to practise.

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah kissed Filipo and Terence and then headed to the band room, running into Bobby, who looked like he'd had a shower.

"Hey Bek. Going to see Jonoooooo?"

"Yes, not like it's really any of your business."

"Well, I'm going to see Tav."

"Exhibit my surprise."

"You know, hanging out with the cynical Brit hasn't done much for your personality."

"And spending all your time in bed, screaming `yes, Tav, harder', hasn't done much for yours."

"This is what I love about you, you hide your affection for me under this hatred. Besides, I top, Tav usually does the screaming."

"I didn't need to hear that."

Bobby grinned and thought really loudly about what he and Tav had just done.

"Ah! I hate you!"

"And I love you."

Rebekah made a face and walked to the band room, Bobby following, making little comments about anything she did.

The Displaced.

Jonothon ran his fingers over his guitar as Octavian sang into the mike. Could the boy make it any less obvious he slept with men? Dear god.

"Use me, I'm beautiful
Lips prettier bruised
Use me like you wanna
Morning I'll be gone

Quick fuck up against the alley wall
I know all the hour rent hotels
Use me, I feel like a whore
Whoa-oh oh, party hard tonigh…"

Sergei bobbed his head slightly as he played back up to Jonothon's lead guitar.

Rebekah and Bobby

Rebekah opened the door to the band room and Bobby walked past her.

"Ladies first," he said.

"You realise you just called yourself a lady?" Rebekah shot at him.

"That's true. . . hmmm. Um. . ."

"Dust before broom?" Rebekah suggested.

"Dust before sex."

"That made no sense."

"Foreplay before sex?"

"Why am I sex?"

"Because I am foreplay," Bobby said, looking as though this was the most logical explanation. "Or hasn't Jono taught you about those sorts of things yet."

Rebekah narrowed her eyes and flicked his arousal off.

"Die, Bobby Drake."

"She loves me. Damn, I can't even get excited."

The Displaced.

"I hope you're going to turn that back on later," Octavian said.

"He's much more interesting in bed."

"Shut up, don't want to know," Sergei said.

"Well, he does this thing with his tongue that-"

"SHUT UP!" The three other members of the band yelled at him.

Octavian smirked slightly.

Bobby and Rebekah

"I'd be glad to demonstrate it on you, Bek."

"Yuck."

"Dammit, that doesn't have the same affect when I'm not hot. Dammit, Bek."

"Watch me care."

Rebekah went and sat down, and Bobby sat by her feet, pleading eyes on her face.

"I'll buy you something. . . I'll have sex with you. I'll. . . get Tav to have sex with both of us."

"And yet, I am still unmoved."

The Displaced.

"Oh, you're very moved," Octavian said.

"Now you sound like Bobby," Sergei said.

"Too much time with him is obviously bad for you," Angelo added.

"But if I didn't spend so much time with Bobby, I'd be having a lot less sex. So obviously, I must hang around Bobby so I can have sex with someone other then myself. Even though I'm a sexy, sexy beast."

Octavian grinned and dodged the paper Jonothon threw at him.

Bobby and Rebekah

"I second that. . . you are sexy, Tav," Bobby said. "And if Rebekah would be so kind as to give me back my life, than I would show you how sexy."

"And this is meant to convince me, how?" Rebekah asked, raising an eyebrow.

Bobby put his head in her lap and grinned.

"From this angle, I can see your pan – "

Rebekah slapped him over the head.

"So, Jono likes white, does he?"

The Displaced.

"Sergei, I would kill him but I'd hurt my guitar. Can you . . ."

"Sure thing, tovarisch."

Sergei flicked his fingers at Bobby and gave him an atomic shock. Then started to dissolve the threads of his clothes, just to be annoying.

Octavian shook his head.

"That is not going to discourage him. If anything, it's going to make him worse. He's not like Dawn. . .thank god. Otherwise I'd be very pathetic to be sleeping with someone like Dawn."

Bobby and Rebekah

Bobby yelped, then grinned wider.

"Hey Rebekah, I always figured you to be a black sort of girl. I thought Jono would prefer it too."

Rebekah looked like she was going to swear at him, then decided against it.

"And hey, my clothes are unravelling. How about, you and I, Bek, we go to my room, you give little Bobby his life back, and we'll work out some sort of an arrangement. Not that little Bobby is very little, per se."

"Really? I don't have a microscope with me at the moment Bobby, so I'll have to decline."

"My penis is bigger than yours."

"Well, that makes me feel better, seeing as, oh I don't know, I DON'T HAVE ONE!"

The Displaced.

Jonothon put his guitar down carefully.

"Right."

"He's insane, he's not in his right mind, please don't hurt him," Octavian said.

"It's really hard to have sex in a hospital bed. They're small. It's possible, but only because I'm flexible."

"Didn't need to know," Sergei said.

"You can stop with those sort of stories anytime. Really."

Bobby and Rebekah

Bobby laughed evilly.

"Stories? I have a few stories."

"Which we don't need to hear," Rebekah put in.

"Remember when you first came to the school, Bek?"

Bobby's eyes twinkled mischievously.

"And you and I. . ."

"Oh, was that you?" Rebekah asked, feigning disinterest. "I wasn't sure I was actually having sex. It went pretty quickly."

The Displaced.

"I'll have you know, Bobby can go for hours," Octavian said.

"Again with the information I didn't want to hear," Sergei said.

Jonothon lifted Bobby up and shoved him in the direction of the door.

"Clear out, cobber."

Bobby and Rebekah

"I think I've struck a nerve. So, what are you guys right now? Lovers? Friends? Friends with benefits, like Tav and yours truly? Or is it a mutual heartbreak sort of thing?" Bobby asked as he left.

Rebekah narrowed her eyes and stormed out of the room ahead of him.

"Just forgot how to use my power, Bobby. And if you approach me for the next. . . lifetime, I will kill you," she snapped as she left.

The Displaced.

"Band practice is over," Jonothon said and walked after Bobby and Rebekah.

Sergei put his guitar down with relief.

"Oh thank god. Anyone have a headache tablet?"

Octavian eeped and ran after Jonothon.

"Jono!"

Jonothon tapped on Bobby's shoulder.

"We really need to discuss how you talk to ladies, mate."

Bobby and Rebekah

"Oh she knows I was kidding," Bobby said.

"Do I?" Rebekah asked, raising an eyebrow. "At any rate, let's just leave it. I'll hurt you later. Come on, Jono, let's just go out or something."

Bobby looked like he was going to comment, then for once, thought about it, and decided not to.

Jonothon & Octavian.

"Can't I punch him? At least once? I know how to make it really hurt," Jonothon said.

"Backstreets of London, we don't fight fair. If I slam in the balls, he won't be thinking about sex for a very long time."

"No!" Octavian yelped.

"See, Bobby's being quiet. Good Bobby. And besides, happy Octavian makes the music better."

"Oh for god's sake. . ."

Bobby and Rebekah

Bobby eeped and looked like he was going to put a hand over his crotch, then just nodded.

"I'll be good."

"I doubt it, but I'll let you live once. Come on Jono."

Rebekah shot a withering look at Bobby, then started to pull Jono away.

Octavian & Jonothon.

"Bek, I don't suppose you could you know, turn him back on?" Octavian said.

"As a favour to me."

Jonothon rolled his eyes and followed Rebekah, kissing her neck gently.

Bobby and Rebekah

Bobby pouted.

"Just use your hand."

Rebekah smiled and walked away with Jono.

"Oh she's mean."

Octavian & Jonothon.

"Oh, she's shocking," Octavian agreed.

"I know someone who's not getting diamonds."

Jonothon slid his arm around her waist.

"So, movie maybe?"

Bobby and Rebekah

"Oh this is depressing. I can feel nothing down there."

Bobby frowned.

Rebekah nodded.

"Sounds good."

Octavian & Jonothon.

"You really should be nicer to her, seeing as how she can castrate you with a thought," Octavian said.

"That would just be sensible. And Jono is really going to hurt you. He's more likely to then Mordred, even."

"Love actually?" Jonothon suggested.

That was a chick flick, right?

Bobby and Rebekah

"Maybe. . ."

Bobby shrugged.

Rebekah thought for a moment.

"Bright Young Things, maybe?"

Jonothon.

"Yeah, that looked good," Jonothon said.

"Odd and British. . ."

Rebekah

"Kinda like you?" Rebekah teased.

She paused.

"Are we going to take a car? I think Gwen's is still here, and I know where Bobby keeps the keys."

Jonothon.

"Or we can take my bike," Jonothon said.

"Well, Nyx's bike. But she's letting me use it."

Rebekah

"It's up to you. I'm not fussed."

Rebekah held his hand gently.

Jonothon.

"Bike then?"

Jonothon squeezed her hand back gently.

"I'm a safe driver, really."

Rebekah

"I trust you."

Rebekah smiled and they headed out to where the bike was parked.

Jonothon.

Jonothon tossed her a bike helmet as he got the keys from the hook they were hanging on.

"Helmet on, please."

They got on the bike and Jonothon revved it into life, before they roared out the gates. They drove into town and Jonothon started looking for a place to park. It took a while, but he found one near the movie theatre. He parked the bike and steadied before he got off and helped Rebekah off the bike.

"Here."

They walked into the movie theatre and Jonothon bought her ticket for her. They went into the theatre and sat down.

Rebekah

Rebekah slowly reached for Jono's hand, smiling shyly as the previews started.

Jonothon.

Jonothon smiled and held her hand gently while the previews rolled. He leant over and kissed her lightly.

Rebekah

Rebekah kissed him back, sliding a hand around his neck, softly running her other hand through his hair.

Jonothon.

They sat and mostly kissed through the entire movie. When it was over, they went back out and walked around for a bit, talking then got on the bike and headed back to the mansion.

Jonothon turned the bike off and turned to help her down off the bike again.

"Have a good time?"

Rebekah

Rebekah nodded and smiled.

"Always, with you."

She hopped off the bike and straightened her skirt.

"Should we get changed and then go again?"

Jonothon.

Jonothon nodded.

"You talked to your friend then?"

Rebekah

"Oui, she's expecting us in about two hours."

Rebekah thought for a second.

"We'll take the car. I'll take my chances and fix Bobby, and get the keys from him."

Jonothon.

"Alright. We can get something to eat in town," Jonothon said.

"You sure you want to risk turning Bobby back on?"

Rebekah

"Yeah, I'll do it as we're leaving. I'm a sorta honest person, well I look honest, so he'll trust me. Probably."

Rebekah smiled cheekily.

Jonothon.

Jonothon smiled at that and leant down to kiss her gently.

"See you in a few then?"

Rebekah and Bobby

"Yes."

Rebekah kissed him back and then headed off to Bobby's room, where he was lying on his bed, reading a physics book to take his mind off the pain he was in.

"BEK!"

"Hello, fellow earthling. Now, I have a proposition for you."

"Ooh, I like the sound of that."

"Bobby," Rebekah sighed. "Do you want to be with Tav ever again?"

"I'm good, I'm focused, I'm listening. What's up, Beka?"

"Nothing, and don't call me that. Now, I need Gwen's car keys. And as soon as you give them to me. . . ok, as soon as I'm driving the car, you can go see Tav, and there will be no sharing of information."

Bobby jumped up, throwing his book on the ground and grabbing the keys from his drawer. He tossed them to her.

"Take them! And go! Drive!"

"Merci. But I need a shower, so I. . ."

"I thought you and Jono only went to a movie. Oh! You went to one of *those* movies."

"Bobby. Car keys. Key to your arousal."

"Shutting up."

"Doubtful. Very doubtful. Anyway, I'll see you around. No wait, I don't want to. Thanks for the keys."

Rebekah left the room, with Bobby looking happier than he had been. She went into her room, grabbed some clothes, then had a shower, dried off and dressed in a short black skirt, a dusky pink top which tied up at the back, and slipped her feet into a pair of black strappy high heels. She railroad plaited her hair into zig zags and fixed her make up, with dark eyes and light lip gloss.

Checking over herself, she nodded slightly, and went out to the car.

Jonothon.

Jonothon showered and basically dressed as he had before, except with a slightly nicer top. Black jeans, black top, black leather jacket and black Docs. He brushed his hair and then went to find Bek.

He walked into the garage and smiled at her.

"You look. . .wow. Just. . .wow."

Rebekah and Bobby

"Thank you."

Rebekah blushed as she opened the car, then slid carefully into the drivers seat.

As they drove out, Bobby felt something he'd been missing all day.

"YAY!"

He got up, ran out of his room, opened Octavian's door and pounced on him.

Jonothon & Octavian.

Jonothon looked around as they got out at the club.

"Nice."

Octavian chuckled slightly.

"Bek forgave you, I'm guessing? Or she needed something?"

Bobby and Rebekah

"Little from column a and a little from column b. However, why are we talking?"

Bobby kissed him hard, a hand already working at their clothes.

Rebekah locked the car and handed the keys to Jono.

"Yeah, it's pretty cool."

She led them to the front of the line and sweet talked the bouncer and they got in first.

Jonothon.

Jonothon waggled his fingers at the waiting people and grinned.

"See ya inside, mates. Maybe."

He chuckled slightly as he walked in after Bek.

"So. . ."

He looked around at the club and smiled. No stares, well, not bad ones. No pity. No bloody sympathy. Just. . .loads of jealousy. He felt good.

Rebekah

"So. . ."

Rebekah looked around and spotted Marissa.

"Hey!" Marissa exclaimed, coming over and hugging Rebekah tightly.

"It's been so long, girl!"

Rebekah smiled and nodded.

"Oui. How are things?"

"Pretty good. Oh, this must be, Jono?"

"Yes, Jono, this is Marissa. And vice versa."

"Nice to meet you," Marissa said politely.

Jonothon.

"Nice to meet ya," Jonothon drawled.

"Nice setup. Looks like it has good acoustics."

Rebekah

"The basis of it's appeal. Rebekah said she would never come here unless she could sing. Exploiting me. She started that on you yet? Don't let her sweet exterior fool you. She's really evil underneath," Marissa joked.

"Am not."

"Bek, he's hot."

"And he can hear you. Shh."

Jonothon.

"Yeah, might want to shield a bit better," Jonothon said.

"So, when are we on? We were going to get some dinner."

Rebekah

"Well, actually, I had one act decide to play after all, so you guys have time for dinner," Marissa said.

"Oh ok, well, we'll just. . ." Rebekah gestured around.

"Sure, sit down wherever. Eat, have fun. And. . . it's on the house."

"Aww, no, Riss. . ."

"Hey, it's the least I can do."

"Merci."

Marissa smiled and waved as she went to talk to her kitchen staff.

Rebekah shrugged slightly and led Jono over to a table.

Jonothon.

They ordered and the food arrived quickly. They flirted slightly and chatted while they ate.

Soon, they were up on the stage.

Jonothon smiled at her, then started to sing the opening phrases of the song, fingers gliding over the strings of his guitar.

Rebekah

Rebekah smiled back, her fingers dancing over the strings of her own guitar, as she sang, her voice soft and sweet.

They finished the song and Rebekah stood and kissed him gently.

Jonothon.

Jonothon kissed her back.

Then the period of grace ended.

Jonothon stumbled back slightly, face creasing in pain.

"Oh god!"

He dropped to his knees as he felt the only once felt but forever remembered pain of his astral flame bursting through his mouth and chest. God, it burned!

Rebekah

Rebekah yelled out as she flew back and hit the wall. She slid down, unconscious.

Jonothon.

"God no! Not again!"

Jonothon watched as the roof started to cave in and people screamed. God, where was Bek? He couldn't move, couldn't look around as his eyes fixed on the sky appearing through the falling debris and he screamed soundlessly, fire burning through him.

Rebekah

Rebekah's eyes opened slowly and she blinked painfully.

"Jono?" she whispered, straining to see where on earth she was.

Her head ached. Where was Jono? Was he ok?

Jonothon.

Jonothon had barely managed to get home alive, mutant haters everywhere and he couldn't find Bek. The professor had gotten her out of the hospital all the victims at the club had been taken to and brought her back to the mansion.

He couldn't go see her. He couldn't look at her in hospital when he'd put her there. He looked out the window of his room, then got up and pulled the curtains across, plunging the room into darkness.
