15 January 2004 - Displaced concert with some twists

Written by Tegan...

The Displaced.

Jonothon tuned his guitar as they set up, connecting audio cables and the like. Well, the tech guys were. The band were just chatting while the auditorium got set up for the concert.

"I still hate you all," Octavian said, tuning his violin before putting it down.

"Yeah, yeah...let's do this."

They stood up and watched as the students started to file in. Sergei stepped up to the mike, settling the guitar against his chest.

"Hey guys. Welcome, again, to a concert of The Displaced. First song tonight is one of ours you might not have heard..."

He nodded at Angelo as he stepped back and Jonothon played the first chord.

"Join me in the dark
The blessings of an unholy god
Rain down like blood
A wet crimson rain

Oh, oh we belong here
Baby, kiss me one more time
And don't look back
Never look back

Darkness all around us
In this desecrated fervour
Lips on skin and blood wet touches
In the red darkness of our hearts

Oh, oh, we belong here
Lost all alone in the dark
Scratch your nails down my back
And let me bruise you harder

Because enough is never enough
The darkness of the yawning void
Join me in the bloodlust we create
In the hours of the night

Oh, oh we belong here
In the darkness of the night
Bite me harder, the pain is not enough
Ours is a nothing, dark bloodfilled love

Dark bloodfilled love
The emptiness of life
The darkness of the night
Bite me harder, baby, make me bleed

Oh, oh, we belong here
Oh, oh, we belong here
In the dark, baby
Blood, we're dripping with it
Blood of yours and mine and others unnamed
Oh, oh, we belong here
Put your bloodstained hand in mine
Leave the knife there, wipe it clean on the grass
Bloodbound, bloodlust, blood, baby, blood..."

OOC: 'Bloodlusting' by Jono.

Rogue and Shannon

Rogue smiled vaguely as she listened to the music.

Yep still felt guilty.

Shannon watched her friend in concern. Things had been so awkward lately. She supposed the concert probably would have helped - if Jono hadn't been in the band too.

Bobby and Rebekah

"So, you feeling better?"

"Like a hole in the head."

Rebekah sat down on a seat, holding her guitar.

Bobby patted her head.

"Good Bek. Gooood Bek."

"Shut up."

Rachel, Enrique and Ducky

Kitty smiled. Tav was so hot, she couldn't stop looking at him. She and Tracy were dancing, just for the sake of having fun, Rachel was dancing as well, and having a great go at it. Even some of the younger children were at the concert.

Enrique was enjoying himself even though he didn't understand most of the words. Everybody was so excited for the concert, that there were even students who no longer attended the school that showed up. Ducky and Warren were dancing together about 6 feet above the ground, and the Mers were all watching happily.

The Displaced.

The band started their next song.

"This is the story of me
A way to shout out who I am
I'm calling to the stars above
Howling like a hungry wolf
Lost in my head, I'm lost in my head

Gaping wounds, stitch covered incisions
The world's run away on me again
It's upside down and inside out
And I'm trying to make my way through it
Voices yell, scream, shout it out
This is the story of me
A story of me

I'm calling to the great beyond
Are you listening, you PTB?
I'm fed up with this life that is
I'm dying of a world of negativity
This is a story of me
My story, writ large for all to see
If they have eyes to see

Black eyes, bruises
Drown your sorrows with me
I've got them too, written out upon my skin
Tick, tock, the clock on the wall
Says that time is over
Time to die, time to fly, end of the line, end of the story

I'm changed in everything
A burst of flame and life is burnt away
Endless soundless screams in the dark of night
And the beat, beat, heartbeat of the world
Resounding in my skull, sending me mad
This is the story of me

Stigmata, I'm bleeding, you see
Blessed, cursed, devoted
I don't go to Sunday School no more
Guardian angels failed me
This is the story, the story of me
Lost my faith in God...SCREW YOU!

The world's fucked me over yet again
Left bleeding, dying by the roadside
I'm roadkill on the highway of life
Something better's gonna come one day
This is the story of me
And sing with me, oh blessed be, oh blessed fucking be

Sod it, bloody go home now
Socialite butterfly, flutter away from me
Desperate eyes above a nothing face
Draws no cards
Hey, is it my turn to bluff?
This is my story, the fucked up life of me
Adjust your sets for pleasant viewing
I'm going home now
1, 2, 3 - FUCK OFF!"

Sergei riffed his guitar as the last chords of the song died away.

"The Story of Me by Jono. Alright...next up we're gonna sing one of his 'love' songs. Ouch, dammit!"

Sergei threw a hand up to protect his head as Jonothon threw something at him.

"Yeah, so, the next song...Drug of Choice."

"Do you like me on my knees?
Looking up at you and saying please
I love your hands when they're on me
You like me best when I'm on my knees

You know I can't say no
I follow you everywhere you go
You like me on your lead
You like to see me bleed

You're my favourite addiction
You're my drug of choice
Habit, you're my darling habit
You're a goddess, I'm your slave

You love me when I'm on knees to you
It's the way I'm told to worship you
You smile as I do
You love the things I'll do for you

You're my drug of choice
My habit that I just can't kick
You're my addiction, running through my veins
I can't get enough of you, no matter what you do..."

Bobby and Rebekah

"Come on, look at him, he's hot," Bobby said to Rebekah.

"You just wish the concert was over, don't you?"

"No, I like the music. But I also like Tav."

"God, shut up."

The Displaced.

"This *isn't* one of ours," Sergei said before they started the next song.

"Days swiftly come and go.
I'm dreaming of her
She's seeing other guys
Emotions they stir
The sun is gone.
The nights are long
And I am left while the tears fall.

Did you think that I would cry,
on the phone?
Do you know what it feels like,
being alone?
I'll find someone new.

(Swing) Swing, Swing from the tangles of
My heart is crushed by a former love.
Can you help me find a way
to carry on again.

Wish cast into the sky
I'm moving on
Sweet beginnings do arise
She knows I was wrong
The notes are old,
They bend, they fold
and so do I to a new love.

Did you think that I would cry,
on the phone?
Do you know what it feels like,
being alone?
I'll find someone new.

(Swing) Swing, Swing from the tangles of
My heart is crushed by a former love.
Can you help me find a way
to carry on again.

Bury me
(you thought your problems were gone)
Carry me
(away. away, away...)

(Swing) Swing, Swing from the tangles of
My heart is crushed by a former love.
Can you help me find a way
to carry on again.
Can you help me find a way
to carry on again.
Can you help me find a way
to carry on again..."

"That was Swing Swing, by the All-American Rejects," Sergei said.

Matt and Joelle

Matt tapped his foot to the music, smiling a little as he watched some of the other students dance to the music. He had certainly met an interesting bunch of people in his three days here.

Joelle chewed her lip a moment, then walked over to him.

"Would you like to dance with me?" She asked. "Or perhaps prefer a cup of tea?"

Matt couldn't help but chuckle, and Joelle looked a little embarrassed.

"Thanks, but no thanks," he said.

Dancing... very good way of breathing on people. Not very pleasent when they get addicted to you, and Joelle had already been exposed rather badly.

"Okey-dokey."

"Sorry. I'm just... you know."

"It's okay, Jose."

Bobby and Rebekah

"I wish Julie were here," Bobby said, as he twirled Rebekah around.

"She'll be here soon," Rebekah replied, trying to sound reassuring.

Man, she didn't want to be out of bed.

The Displaced.

"Shut your eyes, baby
Don't you cry
Wash my hands clean
We'll have a new life

Lie to me
Tell me that you love me
We'll start again
After we've washed the blood away

Take some Prozac
Numbs the pain
Handy little pills of white
Helps dull the blood dripping down the walls

Lie to me
Tell me that you love me
We'll start again
After we've washed the blood away

Your hands, my hands
Dipped in the red of life
Starting again, we'll start again
Close your eyes and open them to a new life

Lie to me
Tell me that you love me
We'll start again
After we've washed the blood away

Here's where we begin again
I'll kiss you goodbye
Push you down and go
Unseeing eyes watch me go

Lie to me
Tell me that you love me
We'll start again
After we've washed the blood away

Lie to me
Tell me that you love me
We'll start again
After we've washed the blood away

Starting again, starting again, starting again, a new life without you..."

Sergei turned and flexed his fingers, wincing slightly.

"Bleeding?" Jonothon asked in concern.

"Nyet, nyet, I'm fine," Sergei insisted softly.

He reached for the bottle of water and downed some some thirstily.

Shannon and Rogue

Shannon sighed and smiled at Sergei. Maybe the music wasn't exactly her style, but talent was talent.

"Hello ladies," Matt said, sitting down with them.

"Hi Matt," Rogue said.

Shannon nodded.

"Good concert huh?"

"Yep."

The Displaced.

"This is a song by a band called Cheap Trick," Sergei said.

"Southern Girls."

"Because as we all know, Southern accents are a proponent of severe hotness," Octavian said.

"Southern people are often severe hotties."

Jonothon rolled his eyes as Octavian winked at Rogue before they got into the song.

"I've been north,
I've been east to the California beach
There's only one place I know where to find you
And all you Southern girls got a way with your words
And you show it
You say hump and I'll jump
You say go and I'll know
Waste no time getting
So close to you
And you'll never run way
When you find out why I wanted to find you

Ooh baby need some brand new shoes
Get out on the street
You got nothing to lose
You rock me and your crazy
And everyone says it, yeah yeah
Southern girls, you got nothing to lose
Southern girls, you got nothing to lose

I've been up I've been down
I've been weak I've been strong
But I never met someone like you
And you'll never run away
When you find why I wanted to find you
You say hump and I'll jump
You say go and I'll know
Waste no time getting
So close to you
All you Southern girls
Got a way with your words
And you show it

Ooh baby need some brand new shoes
Get out on the street
You got nothing to lose
You rock me and your crazy
And everyone says it, yeah yeah
Southern girls, you got nothing to lose
Southern girls, you got nothing to lose

You think this boy, he loves you
Southern girls
You make it hard oh, so hard
I've been north, I've been east to the California beach
There's only one place I know where to find you
And all you Southern girls got a way with your words
And you show it

Ooh baby need some brand new shoes
Get out on the street
You got nothing to lose
You rock me and your crazy
And everyone says it, yeah yeah

Southern girls, you got nothing to lose
Southern girls, you got nothing to lose
Southern girls
Southern girls
Southern girls..."

Kitty and Thersea

Kitty grinned at Rogue.

"Oooh, they're singing about you," she teased. Jubilee danced around in circles, her arms in the air, little sparks coming off her fingers. Tracy danced with the real Jamie, all of the others were down in the medlab.

"Well, it's not Irish, but it's good music," Theresa conceded.

Rogue

Rogue giggled.

"I'm guessing you're a Southerner?" Matt asked.

"Yah," Rogue answered.

The Displaced.

"The new one by Nickelback," Sergei said, then swapped with Octavian who came forward to sing.

The Russian swapped his guitar for another bass, both Octavian and Sergei using bass guitars to play.

"Hey...this is called, Figured You Out," Octavian said, before they started to play.

His voice wasn't as deep as Chad Kroeger's, but it was still damn good.

"I like your pants around your feet
And I like the dirt that's on your knees
And I like the way you still say please
While you're looking up at me
You're like my favorite damn disease

And I love the places that we go
And I love the people that you know
And I love the way you can't say no
Too many long lines in a row
I love the powder on your nose

And now I know who you are
It wasn't that hard
Just to figure you out

Now and then
You wonder why

And now I know who you are
It wasn't that hard
Just to figure you out

Now and then
You wonder why

I like the freckles on your chest
And I like the way you like me best
And I like the way you're not impressed
While you put me to the test
I like the wine stains on your dress

And I love the way you pass the check
And I love the good times that you wrecked
And I love your lack of self-respect
While you're passed out on the deck
I love my hands around your neck

And now I know who you are
It wasn't that hard
Just to figure you out

Now and then
You wonder why

And now I know who you are
It wasn't that hard
Just to figure you out

Now and then
You wonder why
But not for more
You didn't try
Gone for good
And this is it

I like your pants around your feet
And I like the dirt that's on your knees
And I like the way you still say please
While you're looking up at me
You're like my favorite damn disease

And I hate the places that we go
And I hate the people that you know
And I hate the way you can't say no
Too many long lines in a row
I hate the powder on your nose

And now I know who you are
It wasn't that hard
Just to figure you out

Now and then
You wonder why

And now I know who you are
It wasn't that hard
Just to figure you out

Now and then
You wonder why
But not for more
You didn't try
Gone for good
And this is it..."

"And we sing this because we were listening along and this song flicked up on the CD," Angelo said.

"And we all looked at Octavian. So, Bobby, does he say please?"

"Hate you, hate you all," Octavian said to his fellow bandmembers who were snickering to themselves.

"I hate you with the fire of a thousand suns. Loathe. Detest."

Bobby and Rebekah

"Yeah he says please," Bobby called back.

"Oh too much information," Rebekah said, grumbling.

The Displaced.

Octavian blushed heavily.

"Oh, he's blushing!" Angelo catcalled.

"Score for Bobby!"

"Yeah, I know who's not getting any tonight...and it won't be me," Octavian said.

"Threatened..." Sergei said thoughtfully.

Bobby

"Who says I won't get any? I'm not just sleeping with you," Bobby shot back.

The Displaced.

"Still a better shag then you're likely to get at the moment," Octavian retorted.

"Enough of this...next song!" Sergei said.

They played a few more songs, then broke for interval.

Octavian cursed at his friends as he changed backstage.

"Hate you..."

They reappeared back on stage. All the band except Octavian, woh was sulking slightly and fixing his clothes. He tossed his head slightly and walked out onto the stage. His costume was very reminiscent of his sojourn as a girl. Black leather mini skirt, sheer black top and kneehigh black boots with laces and heels. His face was made up in the Goth style, white skin and outrageous black eyeliner and deep eyeshadow, blood red lips. Blond hair tousled and oddly feminine at the same time.

He walked up to the microphone stand and spread his legs slightly to other side of it, holding the mike to his lips.

"I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I'd love you to love me
I'm begging you to beg me

I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I'd love you to love me
I'm begging you to beg me

I'll shine up my old brown shoes
I'll put on a brand new shirt
I'll come home early from work
If you say that you love me

Didn't I,didn't I, didn't I see you cryin'?
Oh, didn't I,didn't I, didn't I see you cryin'?
Felling all alone without a friend, you know you feel like dying
Oh, didn't I,didn't I, didn't I see you cryin'?

I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I'd love you to love me
I'm begging you to beg me

I'll shine up my old brown shoes
I'll put on a brand new shirt
I'll come home early from work
If you say that you love me

Didn't I,didn't I, didn't I see you cryin'?
Oh, didn't I,didn't I, didn't I see you cryin'?
Feeling all alone without a friend, you know you feel like dying
Oh, didn't I,didn't I, didn't I see you cryin'?"

OOC: 'Want you to want me' by Cheap Trick

Bobby and Rebekah

Bobby cheered and whistled, chuckling slightly.

"He's very pretty," Rebekah commented softly.

"Yeah, he is."

The Displaced.

Octavian grinned slightly, more relaxed into his role as they swung into the next song.

"Nobody knows where my Johnny has gone
Judy left the same time
Why was he holding her hand
When he's supposed to be mine

It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you

Playin' my records, keep dancin' all night
Leave me alone for a while
'Till Johnny's dancin' with me
I've got no reason to smile

It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you

Judy and Johnny just walked through the door
Like a queen with her king
Oh what a birthday surprise
Judy's wearin' his ring

It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you..."

The old sappy song was punked up to an inch of it's life. As was usual with most of the Displaced's covers.

OOC: IT'S MY PARTY by Lesley Gore

The Displaced.

Octavian glanced back at Jonothon then faced the audience again.

"This is one of Jono's songs. This is 'Doll'."

"Pretty girl, pretty boy
Does it matter?
Can you even tell?
Whoa-oh oh, party hard tonight

Tight skirt, tighter shirt
Blue, blue eyes and golden curls
Made up, make-up
Pretty little living doll

Use me, I'm beautiful
Lips prettier bruised
Use me like you wanna
Morning I'll be gone

Quick fuck up against the alley wall
I know all the hour rent hotels
Use me, I feel like a whore
Whoa-oh oh, party hard tonight

Meet me in the nightclub
Gaily laughing my life away
A glance, a flirt, quick bat of the eyelashes
What I want is physical, can you give it to me?

Fuck me, use me, abuse me
I'm lovely, I'm pretty, I look pure
My worth is measured in my body
Whoa-oh oh, party hard tonight..."

Octavian sang, voice clear and pure sounding against the heaviness of the band's music, swaying his hips and acting along to the lyrics.

Rogue

"These guys are really good," Matt observed.

"Yeah, Ah think so," Rogue agreed. "Jono worries me with some of his lyric though..."

She chewed her bottom lip, sadly thinking of the pain she caused him.

Displaced

"When everything is going wrong
And you can't see the point in going on
Well nothing in life is set in stone
There's nothing that can't be turned around

Nobody wants to feel alone
And everybody wants to love someone
Out of the tree go pick a plum
Why can't we all just get along?

Boys in the girl's room
Girls in the men's room
You free your mind in your androgyny
Boys in the parlor
They're getting harder
I'll free your mind and your androgyny

No sweeter a taste that you could find
Than fruit hanging ripe upon the vine
There's never been a moisture so divine
A river deep that never runs dry

The birds and bees they hum along
Like treasures they twinkle in the sun
Get on board and have some fun
Take what you need to turn you on

Behind closed doors and under stars
It doesn't matter where you are
Collecting jewels that catch your eye
Don't let a soulmate pass you by..."

Octavian tossed Bobby a grin, rolling his hips slightly and knwoing the skirt was creeping up his legs faintly.

'Androgyny' by Garbage

The Displaced.

Octavian took a breathm then plunged into the next song, rolling his head back for a moment to loosen his neck musles, throat gleaming palely in the stage lights.

"She gave you everything she had
But she was young and dumb
She'd just turned twenty-one
She didn't care to hang around
So when the shit came down
Why she was nowhere to be found
This life can turn a good girl bad
She was the sweetest thing
That you had ever seen

You're such a delicate boy
In the hysterical realm
Of an emotional landslide
In physical terms

With your cherry lips and golden curls
You could make grown men gasp
When you'd go walking past them
In your hot pants and high heels
They could not believe
That such a body was for real
It seemed like rainbows would appear
Whenever you came near the clouds would disappear
Because you looked just like a girl
Your baby blues would flash
And suddenly a spell was cast

You hold a candle in your heart
You shine the light on hidden parts
You make the whole world wanna dance
You bought yourself a second chance

Go Baby Go Go
We're right behind you
Go baby Go Go
Yeah we're looking at you
Go baby Go GO
Aw we're right behind you
Go Baby
Go Baby
Yeah we're looking at you
Go..."

Octavian looked back at Jonothon, who held up two fingers. Two more songs. He could do that. He grabbed a bottle of water and sculled about half of it thirstily, then licked the droplets off his lips.

"In the morning they roll over
I hold my eyes shut, try not to cry
I'm faking sleep when they leave
No long goodbyes in the aftermath of a one night stand
And oh, I'm feeling used
I'm feeling like a whore who didn't get paid
No one stays, they all leave once they've got what they want

It's just a one night stand
Don't care, I don't care
And I wonder, what love is
And I wonder, what life is
Because today I'm feeling dead inside
Letting my soul slip away
Don't care, I don't care
So I keep telling me
Just another one night stand
In a life of one night stands

I get up and stand in the shower
Feeling tears mix with the water beating on my face
I'm clean, I'm pure, I'm free
Least that's what I'm telling me
I stare into the mirror
Wonder why I haven't fallen in
Because I'm feeling not so real
My soul in shreds, my heart in tatters
And I wonder why I'm still here

It's just a one night stand
Don't care, I don't care
I just want to be loved
Like everyone
I just want to live
Like everyone
Until that day comes
I'll stare into the ceiling above my bed
Legs spread
And think about souls and stars and life and love
As someone else uses my body to get off
Don't care, I don't care

Pass it all off with a grin and a smile
It'll all be fine in a little while
It's a one night stand, nothing more
But I wonder what love is like
And I wonder about romance
And I want it, but I'll settle for this
Until my soul's set free
And I'm flying high
Reddened water all around me
And I'm singing, I'm singing about love and life and stars and souls
As I die..."

Octavian breathed in, hanging his head for a moment. Next song. One more, then he could get out of this ridiculous get up. He hated them all. Damn them. Bah.

"I like silk around my wrists
And on my eyes
Quiet hiss between my teeth
And you know I know
I'm a masochist in love
And you're just gonna play

I want you to hurt me
Turn my life upside down
Love has gotta hurt or it's not really love
The song of a masochist in love

Handcuffs aren't for everyone
I want you to tie me down and dominate me
Use me, bleed me, make me yours
Teethmarks in my shoulder make me feel your love

I want you to hurt me
Turn my life upside down
Love has gotta hurt or it's not really love
The song of a masochist in love

We're two halves of the same coin
If one, then the other
You want to hurt me
And I need you to

Candles flicker, a scent of burning in the air
I'm yours, only yours
Touch me, please, god please, touch me
Don't ignore me

I want you to hurt me
Turn my life upside down
Love has gotta hurt or it's not really love
The song of a masochist in love

Leather on my skin makes me feel loved
Your collar on my neck makes me owned
And that means something, because it means I'm worth it
A willing slave on my knees for you

I want you to hurt me
Turn my life upside down
Love has gotta hurt or it's not really love
The song of a masochist in love
The song of a masochist in love
Make me bleed for love of you
I'm begging please..."

Octavian coughed slightly.

"Good night, everyone. Hope you enjoyed the show. And if any of you took pictures of this, I swear to God, I will hunt you down and destroy them. Then hurt you. This is the Displaced, signing out."
